Hello All, I've been playing around with low carb for a long time now, and my biggest problem is I'm unable to get into ketosis. Even doing strict Atkins and being under 20 carbs for some reason my keto sticks are not turning even after several days. This is very discouraging since we all know the scale moves around somewhat, and a good keto reading can help you evaluate how you are doing! I wasn't really losing, either. It was hard to stay motivated. Who wants to maintain? I want to lose!

So, starting Monday I think I'll try Stillman's. My goal will be to get into ketosis. If I can just do that...

I'm at about 215 now and need to get to 150 eventually.

I'm up 0.4 lbs today to 218 . Not fair considering I've stuck strictly to Stillman's/M&E.

Hopefully I'll see a big loss tomorrow.

Menu today:

2 eggs
2 chicken breast
Coffee
Water

P: 77 grams: 55%
F: 28 grams: 43%
C: 3 grams: 2%

Hope everyone is having more success than me! I want to be down to 215 by Monday - I just don't think I'm going to make it.

Thanks for the welcome!
I wanted to start stillman today, but my b-day is coming up this wednesday. I made plans with friends and no that I will end up eating off plan. I do not know if I should go ahead and do the plan for a few days and then get back on after my b-day? don't know what I am going to do.
When I do start, I plan on staying for a least a month. I would like to lose about 20lbs, this will be a jumpstart, I have way more than that to lose.

LadyPearl: I think you should start it anyway. That way, when it comes to your birthday you'll be encouraged to stick to plan as much as possible and may end up eating less than you would have. Then just jump straight back on plan the day after. You can never start too soon.

I'm down to 217 today. I wanted to be 215.2 by tomorrow, but I don't think that'll be happening somehow. I just hope there's a loss again tomorrow. Scale has been screwing around the last few days. I think I was losing more when I was eating more fat.... I'll stick at it for a few more days and if I don't start seeing some substantial losses and less fluctuations then I'll go back to how I was eating before. I'd like to meet my end of April goal of 213 which is in 4 days... that may be possible. Either way, I feel I am getting smaller and I have my weekly measure tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be some noticeable changes inch wise.

Hope you all survived the weekend. My birthday is coming up on Thursday and it will be hard to stick to plan. I am hoping that I will have better willpower then I have demonstrated as of late.

I am beginning Stillman's today:
Goals: get into Ketosis for the first time ever, experience hunger suppression as a result, stay there for a while, reevaluate, and of course lose some weight!

Even if I don't stay on Stillman's for the long haul, it sounds like a great place to start.

How do you think Dr. Stillman would have felt about the protein drinks that are available now as an occasional subsititute? I'm sure they were not very available or very good quality in his day. It sure would add some variety to the plan. I started off the day drinking an Atkin's shake since I have not had the chance to go to the store yet.

PS: My mom loved Stillman in the early 70s. It was her most successful diet method, but societal pressure made her quit the method.

Good morning Stillmaners, Hope all are doing well.

I'm with you Manal! Let's do this!!

Don't give up kamills~ you can do it! If you haven't given it two solid weeks without cheats, try to do that first. Then if that doesn't work maybe this isn't the WOE for you.

Hi, My husband and I started this diet exactly one week ago today (April 20, 2009). He started out at 204 and I at (gulp) 268. He is now down to 192. I am down to 260. I did this diet many many years ago and I lost 40 lbs in about 6 weeks! I think it is great. Downside is the limited foods, and the monotony of the menu. I sent off for the Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss Diet Cookbook.

Glad I found this site and the all the different recipes that are out there. I can't wait to try them all!

Our goal weight is 170 for my husband and 150 for me. 268 is the heaviest I've ever been. 169 is the lightest in my adult life. My husband and I are 54 years old.

Glad I found this site!

My husband is at a standstill. He was at 192.8, but then he went up to 193.6, today he is at 193.2. Wasn't there a special diet to go on for 3 days if you were at a plateau in the Stillman diet? I think you had to eat 5 apples a day only and still drink the 8 glasses of water. I don't have my book anymore.

Anyway, I keep telling him to not give up, the next day he could drop 5 pounds!

I have had a steady loss. I am in a new new number 259.8. I was 260.2 yesterday. Yea for me!!!!

MEK- You have a great plan. I never used protein shakes on Stillman's but that's because i just love meat!

kamills- How was your eating before Stillman's? Are you having any trouble in the bathroom department. That stalled me more than everything. If so, then try some milk of magnesium.

Sensible- Welcome! You guys are doing great! Is your husband following the plan as not eating eating else-if not allowed then do not eat? It says that a bite of anything else off plan can set you back. Let him try the repetition diet to break a stall or any other plan on Stillman's. Do you have the book? There are so many different plans! I never knew there was a Stillman's cookbook! Let us know how it is!

LadyPearl- Are you still on plan? Happy early b-day!

Hello to everyone else. Please check in!

Yesterday was a good day. I had 4 eggs and a chicken breast. I'm thinking about going on the repetition diet today because i want a little salad.

Hello all,

I am actually back up to 165. I had to travel this weekend to visit my largest clients who are vegitarians They served veggie pizza all weekend. I have not eaten pizza or wheat in so long. I was completely sick on Sunday.

I am starting to feel better, but the amount of water I gained was crazy. My eyes were completely puffy... and of course it is making me crave really really bad food

So I am back to get on track. today will be an egg day for sure. I will take a spin class and maybe another cardio class to try to sweat everything out.

Congrats on your losses everyone.

Sam

I just posted on another thread about starting QWL, and I want to do this all week and then on weekends add salad. Should I be concerned with how much protein I eat? For instance, here is todays menu:

B: coffee
L: 2 scrambled eggs
2 slices bacon
.5 cup cottage cheese
D: Baked pork chops (8 oz)

How does this look? Also, can Slimfast low carb shakes be used?

I'm down to 172.2 now. I stopped losing for a couple of days (actually gained almost a pound one day) even though I was still doing QWL perfectly, so I ate nothing but hard boiled eggs yesterday and it made me drop about 2 lbs. overnight. Maybe you guys can try that if you feel like you're stalling.

I also am having "bathroom issues" and feel like I'll drop a few pounds immediately once that is going better, LOL. Coffee and milk thistle usually help me, but NOTHING for several days now! I don't feel too great.

Hello all,

I am giving this a try.. I had good intentions of doing the 2 days of fasting before starting the QWL but I didn't get too far. Yesterday's menu was:
B- 1 can of ff chicken broth w/ 1 egg in it
L- about 1/4 pound 96% ff hamburger cooked, what little grease there was drained
S- about 3 oz of chicken breast w/ 1/2 c. ff cottage cheese

today so far
fasted until lunch
L- didn't plan ahead and had great intentions of getting a grilled chicken breast. They were giving away FREE chicken at our local El Pollo Loco and the line was horrindous! So, I ended up driving thru McD's and getting a bunless angus burger.
D- I am having grilled chicken breast and ff cottage cheese again.

So, I need to really plan better! But, I lost 2 pounds so, eating way less carbs is definitly helping. I will not eat so little from now on, but I guess it was my little twist on the fast. I weighed when I got home from work and weighed 1 pound less than this morning, so hopefull it will stick come morning time.

Good luck to all!

Kandi

to everyone, so great to see so many new faces

I stuck to plan yesterday and am down 2lbs today the only thing that I should have done differently is not eat so much fat. It was way more than I normally would on Stillman's but sometimes it seems to help me transition into the WOE for the long haul.

Kandi ~ The most I have ever been able to fast was one day. I could never do more than that. Everything starts looking like food

JulieMoolie ~ I have heard that you can use milk of magnesia or like you said coffee. I have also heard that eating just eggs really helps to get the pounds off, even if it is for just a day or two.

Sam ~ I do the same thing when I blow it, I exercise to get the water out and get right back on track.

Sensible ~ Tell him not to give up, Dr. Stillman did say sometimes you won't lose as much one week but then will lose more the next. He said that overall it will average out to be about 5 pounds a week. Many people do the egg fast and that seems to help break a stall.

SuzeZee ~ I think that your menu looks good. I don't know about the SlimFast shakes I guess you could see if they stall you or not.

Hope everyone has a great day! KUTGW

171.6 this morning, yay! I was a little scared that I would gain since I did an egg fast Monday and then went back to regular Stillman's QWL yesterday, but I actually lost again! I think I will egg fast every time the scale doesn't show a loss, just to confuse my body a bit. Seems to work well.

I started working out at home this morning, too. I had to get up extra early before work but it was worth it. I plan to exercise on my mini-trampoline (with the aid of a mini-trampoline exercise DVD) 5 mornings a week. It's a lot of cardio, but also helps build muscle, so hopefully I will burn even more fat this way.

Good luck, everyone!

I am down 1.2 pounds this morning. This morning I had grilled chicken from last night's supper for breakfast. That is it so far.. I am getting ready to start drinking water. It seems the more I drink, the more I want of it.. I love water!

Kandi -
Beef is aloud on plan - he prefers the leaner cuts. I think you should be fine for a loss tomorrow.

Cat - how much have you lost so far? Your losses look great!

Julie - since we are not eating fiber (which is another debateble topic about if it is really necessary) you will not have the same bulk or volume. I will take magensim citrate vitamins every day to help with movements.

Suze - when he wrote the books slim fast was not around... However he does have a diet that refences supplemental shakes. I would be concerned about the ingredients in the shake. Soy can wreck havoc on many dieters that have thyroid issues.

I am doing good. I started drinking loads of water when i wake up so i don't weigh myself. I tend to mess up if i don't see a loss on the scale. I am aiming for 2 day fast or close it-maybe repetition.

Well, my husband was still at the same weight this morning. So discouraged. So we're both doing hard boiled eggs today. I keep telling him one of these mornings, he's going to drop 5 pounds, and that will put him in a new number.

I won't let him give up, that's for sure!

Back from vacation and ate off any plan while I was gone! I only gained 2-3 pounds though while I was gone (over 2 weeks). I went to the gym yesterday and am ready to lose again. Whenever I do Stillmans I have weird cravings for pickles.

Yesterday turned into a egg fast and today probably the same. I scrambled them with a tiny bit of olive oil. Hope all is well.
