Thinking about Stillmans
Hi guys,
My father did stillmans back in the 60's and lost a pound a day basically. He did allow himself one dill pickle a day but followed it perfectly otherwise. I am on Atkins induction for the past month and have lost around 12 pounds, most of which I lost in the first week. I like the idea of cycling Stillmans but I am concerned about harming my body. I am thinking 2 weeks of stillmans, 2 weeks of atkins (keeping fat in mind but not LOW fat). I am wondering if anyone does this? I love my veggies and I do think they are important but my body is being super stubborn this time around. Also does anyone take fish oil supplements? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I'm new to stillman's but I thought I'd give you my 2 cents. I'm very familiar with Atkins and I did atkins for all of January(but have done it for years on and off) and had similar results to you. Lost 12 lbs (mostly water weight I'm sure) the first week, then a few more week 2, and week three was only 0.5lbs and week 4 was only 1 lb. Considering how deprived you feel, it's disheartening to get low results at the end of the month (even if it is just your body catching up to the big loss of the first week.. it's hard psychologically to accept... especially when you watch biggest loser! haha.) Typically I end up quitting around that point due to poor results, as I think many people have experienced (low motivation). I even tried a "sweet free challenge" week which resulted in nothing extra lost, which made me regret skipping all those diet pops and SF jellos.
![]() ![]() I then happened upon Stillmans and tried it last week for the first time. I think if anything, the forum will give you some pointers and even if you do a few stillmans days here and there, you'll likely see an increase in weight loss due to strict low carb and low fat intake and decreased hunger, resulting in less calories eaten. Stillmans has opened my eyes to the amount of "hidden" calories that I was consuming doing atkins - the pats of butter, bacon, extra vegetables, salad dressings, drizzles of olive oil, heavy cream, sausage, etc. I also hadn't paid attention to how salt affects my body and now I'm seeing some differences there. So in the last 8 days, I'm down 3.5lbs which is a relief to see some scale movement that reflects hard work. Stillmans also has some variety - repetition diets, and a few various eating plans, that can help you figure out what is best for your body. See the forum - eating those veggies you love is totally possible to work in, and many people do seem to take fish oil, which I just started myself. If you're looking to just beat a stall, you might want to drop the veggies for a while but by no means forever. From what I've read in the forum, the QWL plan is just a tool to get the scale moving, but not a life-long eating plan at all. So join the group and read about the meal plans, supplements, and experience from all the nice users on here. Welcome! ![]() |

Thanks Annie, I will do my reading and let you all know how I do! This week I have to eat through all the food I bought on the weekend but we are moving on the 21st so next week is a perfect week to eat lean and light!

I do 2 weeks of Stillmans in a month and the rest is my way of eating. I basically do Stillmans for 3 days then take a break and vice versa. Come join us in the monthy Stillman thread!

Hello Sassymanal,
Where is this monthly Stillmans? I cannot find it. I am doing Stillmans now for a week (sort of Atkins a week before). With Stillmans I find that my caloric intake has dropped considerably. I ate under a 1000 calories yesterday (not intentionally) and felt okay. However, I will not do that today but it was exciting to know I can drop so much calories. That has not happened to me in years. Anyways, if I do end up eating 1000 calories a day... I have a lot of fat to burn (5'4" 1/2 and weigh 185 lbs.) How can I go in starvation mode being this weight? I think that happens only when you are so little....? |

Take a look at your BMR ad RMR, and be careful because after a bit your body will get wise and decide it doesn twant to lose any more weight. |
