scarlet....take a look at the 14 day shapeup plan in the stickies. I cycle that with QWL. usually 5 days 14 Day 2 days QWL. it's very effective, I stay in ketosis, but I don't get that weird jittery feeling like I do from QWL alone.

and definitely exercise. you will def. get results with this combo and FAST! the quick results help keep you motivated.

well.. as bad as it sounds.. I'm all after the whole "quick" thing... I've done atkins in the past.. in fact, I was on atkins for 3 years, and it took me that long to lose 60 pounds.. (20 pounds a year)... and I do NOT have the patience for that any more... and with my metabolism, and insulin resistance.. the minute I started adding carbs back in.. I gained it all back... in record time...

the thing I liked about Stillmans is that it is quick.. and it has a really good plan for maintainance...

that's the problem I had with Atkins. it's only quick for the 1st week or two. after that it takes YEARS ...and frankly I find that I just get depressed. I don't mind even if it's slow and steady...as long as it's steady. it seems that alot of people on Atkins plateau ALOT. I saw a post from one women who said she had been stalled for a YEAR....honey...a year is not a stall....it's MAINTENANCE.

Stillman was an a$$, but his hi protein lowfat weight loss plans make sense and work. it's not as much fun as eating butter and bacon, but overeating is what made us fat to begin with. it just makes sense to learn healthier ways of eating while losing weight.

really....how many posts in Atkins are from people who are "back again"?

eetinmeet and scarlet, I couldn't agree with you more. I find that I need the strictness of the Stillman's plan for 2 reasons. One: it seems to knock me out of seeking comfort in food (let's face it, eating a whole chicken in a day with all the fat and skin as I did on Atkins was total food porn); Two: it is amazingly quick.

I forgot to weigh in last night. I'm back there on Sunday night so I'll do it then.

plan:

diet soda,
coffee,
water,
2 hard boiled eggs with dill,
extra lean ground beef with mustard,
water packed tuna and cocktail sauce,
1 chicken leg without skin.

Have a great day all.

Same here... I want it off and I want it off now!!! I guess I feel like if I am willing to lower my intake and limit my variety then the payoff should be quick weight loss.

Hello, everyone, I'm Sherry from BC in Canada. (Wet, er...West Coast). I've been doing Atkins for a few months, and I'm plateau-ed, if that's a word! I used to do Stillman's, many years ago, and I was okay with it, I love meat and eggs, which helps!

I'd love to "officially" join you all this Monday when I plan to start QWL for at least three weeks. (Much longer, but I may need to take a slight break in mid-March, travelling for work and staying with clients....not sure how that will go.)

Anyhow...see you all on Monday!

Sherry

Hi Sherry. Welcome.

I'm from BC, Canada too. Vancouver Island.

I'm already looking slimmer and my clothing fits better now after 2 days. I love it.

I'm really excited about getting going on this tomorrow! I've stocked up on cottage cheese and eggs....got lots of nice lean meat in the freezer, etc. I think that the simplicity of this approach will work well for me, I found with Atkin's, all the recipe's, etc. that it was getting a bit overwhelming. This is easy in so many ways.

Of course hubby has decided to re-start Atkin's tomorrow, but I'll deal with that.....I happy that he wants to diet, and I don't mind doing his Atkins cooking for him. The smell of bacon frying though....arggghhhh.

Good Morning!
I'm starting back today after a long time - a gaining the weight back of course - life just handed me too much to handle over the last 6 months or so and I admit the food took control. It wasn't the priority in my life but it was my comfort, I'm back to where I started....
Nice to meet you all!

Good Morning everyone!

I just had breakfast, it really brought back memories of when I did this diet years ago. Scrambled eggs with a 1/4 cup or so of 1% cottage cheese stirred in. Kinda eggy...kinda cheesy. I did three eggs, (they're local free range org. very tiny!) and I couldn't eat it all.

Lunch will be tuna, (water packed),
Supper will be lean ground beef made into a hamburger steak.

As of this morning I was 243 lbs. (I've been yo-yo-ing between 249 and 238 for months now, even though I've been doing Atkins. Very annoying, I really welcome some simplicity and discipline.)

I have a question. I know that it's not mentioned in the book, but does anyone take psyllium fiber or any other sort of fiber supplement? I don't know if these supplements were readily available when the book was written. I really detest the inevitable "issues" that I get when not having enough fiber.

Welcome back, LoveJohn!

Sherry- I don't take any kind of fiber but the book says to drink milk of magnesia. I guess you have to get used to different bowel movements when you change your diet.

I forgot to mention that you can try the banana repetition for a day. It works right away! You can google the benfits of bananas.

I think that I'm more likely to try the fiber than to eat bananas, which I loath, lol. But I've done some research on this site, and it looks like quite a few people supplement with magnesium, so that's going to be the plan. (Thank you, though!)

(I'm not having any problems right now; just trying to avoid them in future). In other news, plain tuna, right out of the can.....nope, not happening. It's going to take me a while to get back into the swing of this, but I'm committed.

Hi everyone! I was around for a short while a couple of months ago, but now I'm back to stay. I'm starting Stillman's in the morning!

I need some advice, though. I'm getting married on March 13 and need some advice on how to handle eating during that week. Do I stick to plan no matter what? Do I allow myself a "cheat meal" and if I do, will that totally screw up my weight loss?

I don't think that anyone can (or should) answer that for you...you're getting married! My only suggestion would be to be as careful as you can for as many days as you can, and then to get back on track as soon as possible. I mean...are you not going to taste your own wedding cake?

Congratulation, btw!!

Thanks, Sherry!

My fiance and I are having a very untraditional wedding, so I could, in theory, stick to plan. We're going white water rafting and had one of our friends get ordained to marry us on our trip when we stop for lunch. My fiance and I are very untraditional people... the typical church with tuxedo and white dress just didn't do it for us.

I don't think I'd be so stressed out, but the wedding is only about 2-1/2 weeks away. I don't want to lose weight just to put it back on... but I guess that's better than getting fatter. Eh... the stress of being overweight.

If you plan on doing a cheat day then only do it for 1 or 2 days and get right back on. You want to start with a repetition at first and then do regular qwl or any other stillman plan. It all depends on what your weight is after the cheat. It's kind of like you are in the maintenance part on stillmans (staying slim plan) and didn't figure out yet what your calorie intake was. You use the 3 pound rule . I hope you read the book,if not, read it before the wedding. If you know what your maintenance calorie intake is then you should go by that. gl

SherBel- someone here took psyllium fiber and had a weight gain. You might want to read back a few pages.

Yep, I'm going to go with magnesium supplement. That sounds safe and effective.

Soooo....up two pounds this morning! Oh, joy! I'm puffy as a marshmallow, so I know that it's water, but ick!

hello everyone... I am still in Ca.... heading home tomorrow. I have stuck to low carb but not really stillmans. I have been eating either eggs, omlets or salads since I have been here. So far so good. The only bad thing is that I have not been able to drink nearly enough water. I usually drink about a gallon a day but have been lucky to even get 2 quarts a day since I have been here. I will be glad to get home and get back to normal starting Friday morning. Can't wait to see what the scale will have to say.

So I got home from my trip late last night/early this morning. I slept in and weighed myself this afternoon. I was down 3 pounds since Sunday morning. WooHoo!!! I was so excited. I was just nervous because I was not drinking as much water and was not walking the treadmill every day BUT... I totally stuck to low carb, more atkins then stillmans. I just told myself before I left... no cheats, no excuses! I am not going to officially claim it until my regular Monday morning weigh in... just in case the loss does not stick... but I hope it does!!!

Hello, everyone. I am joining you by using the QWL diet in 10 day cycles followed by 2 days off. I just started today and so far so good. I'm not even hungry. So far today I've had 2 eggs scrambled with Pam spray, a baked chicken breast with Mrs. Dash, a diet coke, and a can of tuna.

I am trying to plan my menus a day in advance so that I won't veer off course. Anyone have any meal ideas they could share? The options are slim. For tomorrow I'm thinking egg drop soup, a baked chicken breast, a can of tuna, and a sf jello cup.

Anyway, I started out at 240lbs. I'm not going to weight myself until the 10 days is up on March 9th. So I'll let you know what I weigh then! I'm hoping for at least 235!
