hi all! i've had a good week so far. Not any loss so far on the scale (had a little 1.5lb gain yesterday but it was back off today), but I also haven't gone to the bathroom since sunday (when i used milk of magnesia)... once a week seems a little low to me but I keep hoping that my body will adjust and not force me to use that stuff.. Maybe I do need to eat some veggies... well sorry for the grossness! Anyway, I have a planned "refeed" celebration meal for V-day so likely my weigh in on Monday won't be earth shattering. But at least I will learn how my body reacts! Anyway, in the mean time, I am getting cautionary news-snippet e-mails from my dh regarding risks of "too low calorie" and how it reduces metabolism, loses muscle, blah blah blah. I don't want to really send him any info on PSMF because he'll see "fast" and some loony online reports and not be pleased, hehe. I know he would like me to switch over and do what he's doing, calorie-counting but no restricted foods and working out a ton... but we all gotta do what works for us. I like this high-protein, very low carb thing so far - it's easy and satisfying on few calories. I'm not sure if it's just the amount of calories or if the makeup of the food is really key, so I hope to learn that in the next few weeks. Luckily I have a lifetime to keep trying to do my best and find the right fit. Anyway, I hope you all have an excellent weekend.
I read through some of those zero carb posts this week, very interesting. There are all sorts of spins on things out there. Good luck to you all! Have a happy valentine's day... ![]() |

someone told me to use magnesium, so I did...nothing happened...I DID sleep really well, tho. I drank some senna tea today (dieters tea) it DOES work, but I don't think it's healthy to use on a regular (haha regular) basis. |

Hello everyone... seems like everyone is on track with their eating plans. I am doing well except I have been having cabbage almost every day. My calories have been around 1000-1250 most days. Protein has been between 75-100 grams a day. Fat is anywhere from 45-70 grams a day, I buy lean meats but still the fat grams are kinda up there some days. Even with the cabbage everyday my carbs are usually 10-13 grams a day so still pretty low.
TOM finally showed up today 3 days late so who knows what Monday morning weigh in will be. I do have a quick question... If I keep my calories around 1000-1250 most days... do you think an occasional low day around 700-800 will cause anything negative like starvation mode?

I go this from here...looks like i'm doing something right
Increasing Your Metabolism and Keeping it Going - Associated ContentFluctuating your calorie intake is something that you might want to throw in the mix, in order to keep your metabolism going. In order to remain stable, your body takes on an action known as Homeostasis. Basically this means that if you drop your calories, your body will compensate by slowing your metabolism in order to keep things as they were. By consistently fluctuating your calories, you may be able to thwart Homeostasis. |

Monday morning weigh in - down 4 pounds this week
which I am very excited about because TOM is here. I do not usually lose well or at all when TOM is here. That is a total of 22 pounds in 6 weeks. |

hi all, congrats on all your successes! i went off plan as planned and did not end up with a loss for last week but i am not too worried. i am working in some lower calorie days to compensate and i also plan to up the workouts this week. eating yogurts today which is going well and i am looking forward to a good week! i like the calorie cycling idea, and i hope that in the future that i'd be able to maintain by being able to eat a little more on some days (maybe weekends) and then compensate the rest of the days (week days) which would also work with my social schedule. we'll see if that'll end up working... anyway i have plenty of time before i have to worry about "maintenance" schedules. Still more to lose!!

oh and about the Milk o Mag. ... yes i took an "in between" dose before bed and by midday the next day it was pretty much out of my system I think. I'm thinking about trying some more as my "system" has totally slowed down, even with the off-plan eating of the weekend. It's not painful but it really does work so plan to stay close to home the next morning when you use this.

hi all, hope everyone is well today! the scale is back to giving me a few lb loss for last week so my "off-plan" business of the weekend seems to have been OK. I did the yogurt fast yesterday, eating 8 of them, plus 4 jello cups, some added coolwhip spray, and a coffee w/ coffeemate/splenda in the morning and a diet pop during lunch. I also went to the gym to put in over an hour but I just thought I'd post that this method seemed to reverse any weight I gained from going off plan from Sat night through Sunday night, so I am thinking this might be a tool I'll use in the future in such cases to quickly get me back on track. Since I've never been anywhere near a healthy weight, I am always nervous that I wouldn't know what to do when I get there. Well I'm starting to think that as long as I pay a reasonable amount of attention to lbs increased, then I can have some strict days to counteract anything over a 3lb gain... just to keep things in line. I know that if I were eating whatever I wanted for a few days, that could add up to much more than 3lbs... easily!!! So the key is weighing myself and not "turning my head."
I should be able to eat a lot more calories when I'm not trying to drop weight so fast, so that will be scary in itself. Lots to learn. Oh well, I will cross that bridge when I get there but just wanted to report the yogurt fast treated me well yesterday. Maybe I'll make it a Monday tradition. I'm significantly increasing my calories burned this week, as my husband has been using spark people's formulas for calories burned, so I'll also be watching calories eaten, etc. He's been losing 3lbs/week by simply eating within his calorie range (a LOT) and burning 7000 calories/week. There are two formulas (basal metabolic rate)- one for men and one for women, and the inputs are height, weight, age, calories eaten/day and calories burned through exercise. SP also makes some adjustments for sedentary lifestyle plus you have to work in your activity, etc. I made a spreadsheet so let me know if you want me to e-mail you the template or I could post the formulas here if interested. It'll spit out the #lbs you'll lose per week. I'm giving it a try this week and hope to burn 6000 calories, eat reasonably (stillmans), and see if I can edge myself into the 4lbs lost range. I think that my husband may be right.. I'm eating so little with stillmans that the only way to improve my results is to exercise more, plus that'll help give me more leeway if I have a higher calorie day, etc. |

Morning All
Congrats to those that stuck through it over the weekend. I of course struggled, but I did really well yesterday and so far so good today. I am just taking it one day at a time. |

hi all... glad some people are seeing results! for some reason i'm up today despite my excessive exercise and excellent calorie counts.... trying not to get too frustrated but i feel stuck in the 190s, argh! i will try to just keep pushing through. going to eat a bunch of broccoli today in attempt to get things moving, in case that is the problem, otherwise it's Milk o M. again,.. TOM is coming up too or maybe it's salt... no idea.
Spinning class tonight. Hope you all are doing well, it's almost Friday! |

Sorry to interrupt... I was wondering if I could ask a quick question... I finally tracked down the book, and am reading it.. and I have a couple of questions...
First off... I just want to say that this book sounds soo much like Kimkins... in fact, I found tons of things that she must have directly quoted right out of the book... so, can someone reassure me that I won't be just getting right back on the whole Kimkins mess? and, second... are folks here losing 5-7 pounds a week? and are you all basically doing the all meat, egg, and cottage cheese version? thanks in advance.. |

I only vaguely know anything about the whole Kimkins mess, and I have no idea what they may have quoted from the book. Stillmans has been around since the 60's. I don't nec. agree with everything he believed in, but the weight loss plan is no nonsense, simple and effective.
I do the 14 Day Shape up (Protein plus) and I cycle it with QWL. I started 2/1 and I have lost 12 lbs so far. it is what it is...it's not a cult. you can try it and if it works for you, great....if not you can try something else.

well.. I did really well with a protein only diet.. so, that's why I was leaning toward stillmans... the only problem I've had with all protein diets before was lot of stomach upset/nausea...

Hello. I am going back to Stillman's today. I have had a hard time staying away from carbs. Mostly because it is all in my mind that I can't do my physical job while on zero carbs. But I know I just have to make it through the first few days and then it will feel better.
Can't wait to see results. I am not near a scale until Friday nights, so I'll do my weigh in then. Take care everyone. |

scarletakb-I don't know much about kimkins either but i switch from all the plans that stillmans has and in between my own style. Which Stillmans plan are you wanting to start? When i first started Stillmans i lost fast and now it's slowing down since i'm closer to normal weight, i guess.
anniethepooh-It says in the stillmans book not to do excessive excercise or it will affect weight loss. I will look it up for you Hello to everyone else I'm still here! my interent is just messed up so i can't post as much,,,it's so slow now!

Sassy, I'm thinking of doing the quick weight loss... I'm reading the book, and I am just now getting to the "repetative diet portion of the book... but, I'm thinking that I will just do the all meat egg cottage cheese one... I have alot of weight to lose.. about 120 pounds or so... I wanted to do it in two segments... lose 60.. then maintain for a couple of months.. then tackle the second 60... just so it isn't so overwhelming.. I've really lost well with the all protein diets in the past.. like I said, though, i have a hard time with ongoing nausea...

Happy Friday everyone!!! Sounds like everyone is doing well. I have increased to 50 minutes on the treadmill.
I have to go out of town for 4 days next week and I know that is going to be a challenge but I am determined to stick to the plan and come home with a loss. Wish me luck! |
