Experience with how long you can realistically stay on Stillmans?

I put what I basically want to know in bold down at the bottom in case you don't want to read my whole post.

I decided to give Stillman's QWL diet a try now that I've been wearing the same size since before the holidays (stayed on plan with Atkins all season, btw. ) hoping to jump start this stall and get down one more size. Well, perhaps one and a half, I'm in a 6 or an 8 now, down from a 14 before I started low carbing. I want to be a 4.

Basically I've been eating the same menu everyday for about three days, just because it's pretty easy and so far I've found it satisfying. I have two hard-boiled eggs for breakfast, and for lunch and dinner I have a hard-boiled egg and a boneless, skinless chicken thigh.

This is way less food than I usually eat on Atkins, but I'm satisfied with it so I'm just going to keep going with it until I a) get bored with it, then I'll go back to Atkins; b) get to a size four; or c) realize it's not working for me.

I've been reading through the monthly QWL diet threads, which I plan to jump in and join soon, and it seems like a lot of you are pretty devoted to Stillman's. So my question is, Stillman's veterans, what is your experience with how long one can realistically stay on Stillman's? And did you have any trouble with gaining weight back once you switched back to your original low-carb plan?

I am not a veteran but I am alternating QWL with Stillmans Protein Plus and I feel like I can do this indefinitely. I have been ketosing regularly and feel fairly comfortable with my food choices. on the Protein Plus (also call 14 day shape up) I can eat similarly to Atkins induction but without the added fats. and if something has a little more fat (like ground beef) then I take an Alli. I put cottage cheese in the blender and use as a base for salad dressings, and "Stillmanize" some Atkins induction recipes. mostly I try to keep it simple, because I need to spend less time obsessing about food. I don't think mealtime should suck, but I don't want my life to revolve around it anymore. and that's the problem I had on Atkins. I spent WAAAAAAY too much time thinking about legal foods and looking at Atkins Food Porn.

right now my menu isn't exciting, but it's fine and I CAN eat out if nec. I spend less time thinking about food and more time thinking about feeling BETTER, THINNER, HEALTHIER, and living a longer life feeling comfortable in my skin.

as far as maintenance....I plan to adopt a healthier lifestyle of healthier foods and exercise. I keep a list in my daily log of foods or recipes that I stumble across that I really enjoy, so that when I am thin I will remember to enjoy those foods or preparation methods instead of reverting back to my old ways. for example, I can't imagine why I would make ranch dressing with mayo when I can use cottage cheese and it tastes just as good. I will use the 3 lb rule....I will weigh in every week and if I gain 3 lbs then I will go back on QWL....but I will try not to gain the 3 lbs.

I hope this helps...?

***about the fats...I supplement with omega 3 and try to eat salmon (yech), buy omega 3 eggs, and use canola oil sparingly. I don't want my hair and skin to suffer, and also some nutrients are fat soluble. I occasionally use Alli, but I am careful not to let it interfere with my omega 3 supplement. overall, this plan is very doable, but we have more research now on the neccessity of some dietary fat and good fats vs. evil fats.

Yes, that helps so much, thank you!

Thanks for adding the side note about the fats. I am so used to eating a lot of fat, and my skin is very happy because of it. I do take Omega 3s though, so maybe I will up that dosage while I'm doing Stillmans.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

WOE: Atkins/Stillmans
Start Date: restarted 1/5/09
Back in 2003 I was on Atkins for a month maybe 6 weeks then switched to Stillmans for about 5 months. I lost 95ish pounds from early June to end of December. I did cycle to Atkins for a day here and there but I was 95% stillmans. I never felt hungry had tons of energy and just felt great overall.

I think Stillmans is like guaranteed weight loss.
