Thanks Farmgirl for responding. I just don't want to be stressing over when I do eat fat consciously (like in the pat of butter or cheese), that it's going to send me over or stall me out.
Another question--does anyone drink on their days off and what? I can't lie and say that going out and having drinks with friends isn't still part of my life so what can I drink (alcohol) that won't erase all the work done during the week? |

"Where Do the Carbs Come From? Fermented beverages, by definition, start as a high-carb plant, usually grapes or a grain. During the fermentation process, the yeasts eat up the carbohydrates, producing alcohol. Whatever sugars are left contributes to the carbohydrate in the beverage, which will vary from one to another. A dry wine has little residual sugar, whereas a sweet wine can have quite a bit. Liqueurs have sugar added, often quite a lot. Distilled spirits (vodka, rum, whiskey, etc.) have nothing left but the alcohol, so are zero carb. However, mixers are often sugary, so watch for this. Just two ounces (1/4 cup) of “sweet and sour mix,” often used for whiskey sours, daiquiris and margaritas, has 17 grams of carbohydrate. As an alternative, you can ask for lemon or lime juice, and add your own sweetener." I don't know what you drink...but you could have a rum and diet coke for no carbs or a vodka and diet 7up or a margarita made with diet 7up and a squirt of lime jc. for example. I avoid drinking because for me it leads to the harder stuff......BAR FOOD! lol! Last edited by eetinmeet; 01-29-2009 at 10:48 AM.. |

Thursday 1/29 B-HB egg LC protein shake L-4 grilled chicken tenders S-sf jello D-3 servings of lean beef (I was SO hungry) S-sf jello w/sf cool whip, not "allowed" but it was either that or gooey butter cake, so its kind of a victory. ![]() Okay same menu for B, L, S not sure about dinner, I'll update tonight, have a FABULOUS (Flab-you-lost) day. Every ounce is a small victory! |

I snagged a recipe from the Lean4Life forum for cauliflower bisque...
YUM! I had a small bowl with a dash of hot sauce at lunchtime and I swear it's the first time in days that I have felt satisfied after a meal. hard to believe a veggie can be such a comfort food. |

hello everyone... Looks like everyone is doing pretty good. Things are well for me. I have been eating right with no cheats. Drinking a minimum of 1 gallon of water a day. I have been doing great sticking to my new exercise plan, walking 32-64 minutes a day on the treadmill (taking sundays off). It does not seem to hurt as much anymore so I guess my body is adjusting to it. Not sure what kind of effect it will have on my weight loss, but I do know I will be crushed if I don't lose this week. I weigh in on Monday morning ... so we'll see!

as I said I am in ketosis and down 3 lbs. when doing Atkins b4 I would show ketones, but it took a while to realise that I was burning dietary fat and not stored fat. I would look at all the pics of foods and LC recipes and end up binging...but I thought it was ok...all legal on induction. I feel more comfortable in this WOE because I KNOW that I am not burning just dietary fat....because I'm hardly eating any.
I made the cauliflower bisque yesterday (no cream just broth and veggie) and was afraid it might knock me out of ketosis...but no, in fact it even darker. so...I am feeling pretty good about how this is going...I am enjoying my evening SF jello with SF cool whip. it may not be prime rib and cheesecake, but I can ENJOY it because I'm not scared of it and I don't feel guilty eating it. ![]() |

I am not doing the netrition thing on purpose...I SWEAR!! ![]() tabata is a workout method where you warm up for 5 minutes then do 20 secs of HARD WORK followed by 10 secs of rest....you do 6 to 8 reps of that then a 5 min cool down. you can apply it to your favorite cardio...elliptical, treadmill, jumprope...whatever. you can work up to more reps, but the ideal is 20 secs work and 10 secs rest regardless of how many times you do it. it burns MORE FAT than a longer period of cardio at 70 percent effort. *** no class...no dvd...IT'S JUST FREE !! you can check out some demonstrations on youtube. they show only the reps part, but you ARE supposed to warmup/cool down also. I really believe it has helped me achieve ketosis so fast on such a low fat diet. Last edited by eetinmeet; 02-01-2009 at 06:33 PM.. |

Hi there everyone. Long-time lurker here just wanting to say thanks for sharing on this forum. I missed signing up for the January thread and was wondering whether anybody was thinking of starting one for February. Otherwise, I look forward to posting on this one every now and again.
I've been doing a modified Stillman's (1200 cals, all paleo, 50% protein, 47% fat, 3% carbs) for 3 days now and it's going really well so far. I've had major appetite suppression from day 1 and have lost 3 lbs - the first scale movement in absolutely ages. I'm hoping at least some of that is actual fat, since I've been eating less than 20 carbs a day for most of January. I've been finding out that any dairy stalls me, as does any form of sweetener, even my beloved stevia. Also, I've found in the past that high-purine protein choices seem to work best with my metabolism, so I'm sticking to lean beef, lamb and salt-free sardines. Along with that I drink at least 12 cups of water a day, munch on 3 oz of raw spinach and choke down lots of supplements - omega 3s, calcium, magnesium, multivitamins, biotin and NuSalt for potassium. My daily diet is rather boring, but since I basically have no appetite I'm not finding it all that tough to stick to so far. Zipping up my jeans is already getting easier, so I feel pretty motivated ![]() Last edited by paleopaleo; 02-01-2009 at 08:10 PM.. Reason: Edited for clarity |

Mmm, maybe I should find a different forum to post in? I initially tried to eat as low fat as the basic QWL plan dictates, but my calories were so low and the protein intake so high, I had to modify it for my metabolism. Guess it's not Stillman's anymore if you do that...sigh.
In the interest of supporting others doing Stillman's properly, I think I'll go back to lurking here and start posting elsewhere. Anyone have any suggestions for which forum might be a better fit? Thanks! |

No offense taken eetinmeet, but thanks to you and sassymanal for clarifying.
I have yet to find an "official plan" that looks exactly like what I'm doing, but I don't care. My modified plan seems to be working for the moment and I'm psyched! |

Sassymanal, not to change the subject, but I just noticed that you're also a nursing mama to an older kiddo. My son just turned 3 and we're still going strong. I test occasionally for ketones in my breastmilk, but since none has ever shown up I'm not worrying about it. I just think the hormones may play a role in why I've gone all the way down to pre-preg weight and up again so many times the last 2 years. Here's to releasing the extra poundage once and for all!

Good morning everyone... so I weighed in today and I am down 3 pounds for the week. Not too bad but I was hoping for at least 5 pounds for the week esp. since I started exercising everyday. I have been doing more atkins but am going to be making the switch to stillmans this week to see if I can get a little better results.

Another half a pound down this morning - woohoo!
Today I had: 2 cups of black tea with almond breeze 4oz stewed steak 2 burger patties 6oz dark chicken meat (seasoned) half a cup of steamed cauliflower with a pat of butter TONS of water & supplements It all came to 1169 calories total with the ratios leaning slightly more toward fat because of the chicken. Guess we'll see what effect the extra fat had in the morning. Just a quick question, anyone else notice that seasoning food with anything savory really triggers their appetite? I think this has to be a no-no for me because I just wanted to keep eating that chicken! |

I totally hear you about the cauliflower and the almond breeze. Absolutely love them both, as do my two guys. Just wish they would come out with an organic version of AB. As for the fat, apparently I can't have it either No change on the scale this morning. I'm going back to the usual blah plan today, since that really seems to work.Have a great day everyone! |
