Hi Lori
Welcome!I did a more LC than QWL day myself yesterday Lisa; I had cottage cheese for lunch, then turkey and cheese roll-up for dinner with a small green salad, then later some pork rinds, then later some cheese:blush: Sometimes, I need that every 2 days--QWL is so strict then Induction feels like a treat! That is my plan for how I'm going to try to lose weight. QWL for as long as I can bear it, then a day of induction to recompose. Today, I had some cottage cheese for breakfast. I am planning on turkey for lunch, then I dunno for dinner. And in all likelihood, I will have 3-4 Miller Lites tonight. It's ok by me if my losses slow or halt over the weekend, just trying to get to my goal by early March. Happy QWL day, all

good morning all. I am starting today. I was thinking of starting with a couple of days of induction, because that always works for me for a few days, then switching to Stillman's. I have no success with Atkins after the first week. Also I find that when I'm on Atkins I get sucked into all the discussion about recipes, and all the LEGAL foods and all the photos of greasy fatty foods, and it just makes me hungry and I binge. Albeit on Atkins food...but still, it's still binging.
I wanted to get some feedback on my idea to use Trader Joes plain nonfat greek yogurt in place of cottage cheese on some days. the cal/carb/protein counts are about the same per serving and nutritionally they are pretty similar, except that I get the benefit of the live active cultures. I never eat a full serving...only about half because it is pretty satisfying. overall I think it's a healthier choice. and it's yummy. |

Hey eetinmeet
IMO, the non-fat greek would be fine. Just my opinion, considering I use low-fat cottage cheese, not fat free Down .2 lb today Happy Friday |

Hi All
Yesterday was interesting... cottage cheese, pork rinds, bunless burger, some light beers, scrambled eggs. LOL not ideal, but not bad. Today so far I have only had cottage cheese. We'll see about tomorrow. Happy Saturday! |

hello everyone... I am doing a mix of stillmans/atkins induction. It worked for me in the past (lost 100 lbs) but i fell off the wagon and gained it all back. I started on Jan 5th and have lost about 10 pounds as of last weigh in. I am trying to weigh only once a week to keep from driving myself nuts but not sure if I will be able to keep off the scale. I drink anywhere from 64-128 ounces of water a day and i just bought a treadmill so I am starting that today. I am going to start at 20 min. and see how that goes and add in a little more every day. I have a lot to lose and hoping to see quick results at least in the beginning as that will motivate me to stick to it. Wish me luck!!!

so... I didn't expect to be posting again quite this soon... But... I finally got my butt on the treadmill and I actually walked for 30 min instead of just 20. I walked around 1.6 miles. Not too bad for the first day. I was not a bad as I thought it would be (boring wise) and I might actually try to walk 2x a day.
sorry but I gotta add.... GO STEELERS!!! Last edited by KSS; 01-25-2009 at 07:12 AM.. |

Life has been so stressful for me that I have done nothing but cheat, so I am hanging my head low as I creep back to the thread. But, I feel as determined as I did the first time I went on QWL and I need to get down these last 20 or so pounds. I am up about 13 pound from my lowest and am kicking myself for letting it get this far. I am trying the 24 hour fast, then back to QWL to see if that helps get me over the hump.
I did a new exercise DVD and I got so sore I could hardly move. What a mistake that was. I am sticking with straight cardio for awhile with very minimal weights, if any. Good luck to everyone, we can do it!

hello everyone.. kinda bummed... weighed in today and have not lost anything since Thursday (4 days). I started walking on the treadmill yesterday and I am a little sore. Do you think that might have something to do with it? The sticks are showing small to moderate ketones everyday so I know I am in Ketosis. Any ideas. Only lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks. Getting frustrated!!!

New to Stillmans--please help!!
Hi All,
I have been reading these threads since last week and decided to join since its my first time doing Stillman's and I have tons of questions. I am on day 2 and have had a constant headache all day (is that common?) but I'm sticking to it. I have some questions about what I can and can't eat, as well as some lingo terms that I have no idea about. Ok, what is TOM? (please don't tell me this is just someone's name... lol). Can someone explain when/why you switch to Induction phase? Is it better to do 10 days Stillman/2 days Atkins or just stick it out w/ Stillman for as long as possible? Food choices-- so on Stillman's QWL, I can chew sugar free gum, like Orbit? Turkey bacon, cold cuts and such are allowed? I saw someone substituted greek yogurt for the cottage cheese--that's ok? PAM is allowed? Can I use Egg Beaters or it needs to be real eggs? How are you all drinking Chicken broth? Do you add seasoning to it? What kind of cheeses can I eat? I couldn't find any FF cheese except for American. Thanks for reading and helping. I really need to get this weight of off me. I'm not working out for the first couple of days until I see how I feel. |

some people retain water at the start of a new exercise program. if you are on plan everyday then it could be that. it would probably be best not to weigh in every day.....but if you MUST ( I know the feeling |

I think gum is fine. many people use processed meats, but I avoid them because of the salt and sugar content. I'm the one using the FF greek yogurt (plain) and it seems to be working out fine for me. Pam....yes....but be careful how much. eggbeaters...anyproducts like those and just check the ingredients, if all the ingredients are legal, then it's fine...check carb counts. I use chicken broth....and beef broth.....it can be very satisfying. I amke my own. seasonings and spices are fine as long as they don't have added salt and sugars. it' supposed to be FF cottage cheese, or farmers cheese (hard to find and overpriced) but many people feel that any FF cheese is ok. most importantly, WATCH THE CARBS! GOOD LUCK!!! ![]() |

I had to ask too!
![]() btw.... there are some really good soy cheeses out there that are high in protein, lowfat and lowcarb. they melt and everything. they aren't like fine aged cheese...but they top a burger just fine, IMO. Trader Joes FF greek yogurt hint: I take a couple of containers of the yogurt then strain it with a cheesecloth (actually I used a handiwipe) til it is kind of thick. takes overnight to do it. I then add a few drops of liquid splenda (to taste) and a few drops of LorAnn cheesecake flavor oil. really yummy. sometimes I use almond flavor....also good. my daughter likes it with pumpkin pie spice. ***remember that your serving size is smaller after straining out liquid. I go with a 1/4 cup serving. Last edited by eetinmeet; 01-26-2009 at 03:08 PM.. |

Morning!
![]() I did pretty well yesterday. In the evening though I get the sweet munchies! I had a LC bar. Better than some alternative I guess.KSS- Are you having regular bowel movements? That can cause scale problems. Also, if you are eating lots of processed meats that can cause fluid retention. Try 3 days w/ no processed meats and take some senekot or correctol. Drink your water. eetinmeet- the greek yogurt sounds great! Where do you get the cheesecake flavoring? Can you bake it? I wonder if you could make a mock cheesecake w/ it? We're supposed to get freezing rain today...I sure hope not. Dh and I went walking last night. I did a video in the AM. Callanetics today and walking. Hope ya'll are doing well. I'm going to WI in the AM. Hoping for a loss! Summer will be here before we know it! Lisa |

Morning everyone!
Farmgirl - so far no problems with BM's. I am drinking minimum of 80 oz of water daily. I do have deli ham once in a while but never more then 2 oz a day. I am a little sore from starting the exercising so I was wondering if maybe that was the cause... just until my body adjust to the exercise. I feel great and I am going to get things moving one way or another |

I am down 4.4 pounds. I know that most or all of it is water but I don't care. I heard somewhere that when your muscles get sore they retain water for the repair and since I am no longer sore, I am sure that the water has finally left. However, I am not giving up that crazy Jillian's 20 minute workout. I know that building muscle will help me not only look better but it will help me feel better. I ended up eating dinner which consisted of a steak and two eggs. This morning I had 4 slices of bacon, not a great choice but it sounded so yummy I couldn't resist it! Also I am having coffee, which I had sworn off, and some diet mt dew. Hope you all have a great on plan day and the scale is nice to you! |

Day 3--not so great....
Hi Everybody,
I'm on my 3rd day and I'm not quite sure if I'm doing this right. I was so hungry last night so I ate a grilled ckn breast and I got some of the FF greek yogurt and some plain FF yogurt (big mistake). I had probably eaten 2 or 3 bowls of the plain FF yogurt before I realized all the carbs it still had in it which kind of bummed me out. I ate some turkey and roast beef cold cuts that subsided the hunger for a while. Woke up with a slight headache and craving food!!!! I'm eating some of the ff greek yogurt this morning--oh, question: I thought per the diet you eat as much as you like of items only on the list but I see you all talking about portion sizes a lot. Yes, too much of anything will make you fat but if I am limited to this small group of items, do I need to be worrying about how much in the beginnning? I'm trying to stick with it but I'm just not sure I'm doing it right now. Should I just go back to the cottage cheese? What else can I do before I throw my hand in and say this diet isn't for me? |

Marie,
Don't give up, the first few days are always the worst. I always have a huge headache the first few days, my body must think it is missing something great. I just take something for the headache and wait for it to pass. Try sticking with eggs, eggs, and more eggs and lean meat, something in eggs helps keep the hunger away. I eat as much as I want on the list the first few days, except cottage cheese, I can't stomach a lot of that You can have the SF gum just not a ton, I eat cold cuts, eggs/egg beaters ( I would think these would be fine), fish if you like it ( ) and cottage cheese. I don't eat any other types of cheese, as they cause stalls for me. Try and stick as close to Stillman's plan and you will lose, I wouldn't substitute if you can help it. The tried and true should work for you. Don't forget your water Good luck |

Cat,
Thanks a million. I'm commited to 10 days and don't want to throw in the towel just yet. The eggs are working on keeping the hunger away. And I'm running to the bathroom every 15 minutes. I actually like the cottage cheese--is it ok for me to eat as much as I want? |

Someone else posted on another Stillman's thread that they were eating a lot and not losing. I don't think it would hurt for a day or two, but if you keep it up eventually the amount of calories will catch up to you. I think in his book he said it is better to eat six smaller meals then three large ones. So if you feel hungry eat more often just not a large amount.
