WOE: Stillman's QWL
Start Date: Restart March 14 2011
Finally made it on the scale this morning and I am down 5 pounds in two days My clothes are already starting to fit better. I was pretty good, for the most part, and worked out for about an hour.

Two different questions were posed. I agree Meg, I eat carbs when I am stressed out. My favorite saying is "he/she is driving me to carbs" I have tried to replace the carb eating to exercizing instead, which really works for me.

How do I not eat carbs? Well for me I want to get some of this weight off and so I will forgo them for a little bit. I will never go back to the very bad carbs, white flour, white sugar, white rice. I think that some carbs are healthy you just have to pick the good ones and only have the bad ones on special occasions. Like Stillman wrote in his books, you just watch the scale and if it goes up 3 pounds then go back on QWL and it will come right back off.

Have a great Wednesday!

For me part of growing up (I'm almost 57) is taking responsibility for my own actions. No matter what anyone else says or does...they do not force feed me. I'm responsible for what goes into my mouth. I am able to say no. I am able to cook all sorts of off plan stuff for my husband (have been for the past two years) and still eat what works for me. I'm not saying it's easy...it's not always easy..but I am in control. I know that if I eat carbs other than veggies and a bit of berries I stand a high chance of getting out of control so I avoid eating starchy and sugary things. I have come pretty far and do not want to go back to where I was. The support at these boards is very important to me. My last major slips were while my internet service was down after hurricane Ike so....
Like Magickal said...'my drug is on every corner'...convenience stores, gas stations, grocery stores, my pantry, Christmas 'presents', fast food places and regular restaruants all have starchy and sugary stuff 'cause ya know what?...it sells...why?...because people are addicted to it and most do not know it. I do, so I avoid it like the plague that it is.

Stayed on plan friends! I hope you're stayin' on too.

What keeps me from carbs...

1. I desperately want to have another baby, but with each one I gain weight that never comes off. Some say that is a selfish attitude. I say that an unhappy mommy is not good for anyone!

2. Feeling good about myself. Looking in the mirror and being proud of myself!

3. Proving to myself and those around me that I can do it!! And being a good/healthy example while doing so.

I think those are the top 3, but of course there are lots of other reasons...

Still eating QWL. Here's to a great day!!

I think it just depends on the person.

I also get sweet cravings on QWL and will either drink a diet soda, suck on a sugar free candy or have some sugar free jello.

About once or twice a week I might add a tad of whipped cream to my jello, or heavy cream to my diet root beer (tastes like a rootbeer float...YUM!). I know that fats, oils and cheeses will stall my weight loss so I strictly limit these foods.

There are some people who can lose fine while eating LC and not monitoring fats/oils. You know your body best. I would suggest that you just experiment a bit with it. If your weight loss slows, back off on the creams and see if it picks back up

I'm the Splenda queen. I keep them in business. That's how I satisfy my sweet tooth. In my coffee. In my tea. In my cottage cheese. Sweet eggs.
Happy Thursday!

Slight bump in my road yesterday, DH called me for a lunch date. Dinners can be so hard for us to do, so lunch just works. Anyway went to Mexican, ate a salad and a few chips and salsa. Not terrible but not great. Skipped dinner all together and worked out hard. The scale is the same today but will probably jump up tomorrow. Back on track today with some deviled eggs and meat. Hope everyone has a great day!

cat ~ good job at stopping urself and gettin a work out in afterwards thats a great accomplishment , sometimes we forget we do live in the real world where we do have life to live, if u feel u made the best decisions and backed it up with working out then congrates to u chica . this is so much more than wat we are eating it is a life that we have to make decisions and no there are actions because of them so im proud of u chica, so happy ur back on track and enjoyed ur lunch with ur hubby.
meg~ yes im trying to controll the amount of splenda i am using but i have to say the whip cream was yummmy.
milano~tom is horrible i know and im finally over mine and going to try and get as much out of the days till the next visit lol keep going u will do great and i love spinich yummy.
alison~yes jello helps me out big time too , how are u doing on ur plan?

ok heres my situation i feel like im retaining water for some reason and i have no idea why im over tom and im staying on plan im gonna try and get more water in today and see what happends i did sneak a peak at the scale and my clothes are fittin awesome , but i can tell im retaining waater with my hands , not sure why tho so any suggestions into how to get the water to move again ? im down a total of 23 pounds as of my sneak peak i was really carbed up from the holidays which i knew i was so i know that the scale is going to slow down but i have to say 23 pounds is really good and i still got over a week left in the month so im happy with that but i really want the scale to keep moving consistantly so im going to try and cut out the splenda and try to figure how im going to measure my water intake , I think that is going to be key for me , but i drink that cheap brand of crystal lite which i love but i water it down big time like one package makes 2 quarts i make 4 quarts out of one package do u think that helps ? yep im throwing alot on u gals today I think I need to get to the store and get the big water bottles and measure that way but theres got to be a cheaper way to get good water i hate drinking the water out the tap, I like cold water too so any suggestions on that will be very much appreciated..... ok im done i think lol
I really would like to keep consistant with the loss and im trying to find a work out that i can do im so out of shape its scarey , but i was interested in the low im pact one and i cant think of the name but its a mix of aerobics and pallaties oh my my spelling is horrible, so taking suggestions.....

I posted this in themain lobby but i thought i would post it here too for those that didn't see.

How to NOT Maintain

by Linda Spangle, RN, MA

Dieters have a lot of common themes. Here’s one you’ve probably said at least once. “I do great when I’m dieting, but I always gain the weight back.” Your excuse? You’ve never learned how to eat right or how to maintain.

It’s easy to blame a lack of knowledge for your struggles. And you may be right. Maybe you haven’t learned enough about good nutrition, meal planning and consistent exercise.

The truth about maintenance

Here’s another possibility. Instead of saying you haven’t learned how to maintain, look at the opposite side of this statement. I’ll bet you know exactly how to NOT maintain or how to NOT eat right. You also know which of your activities or behaviors DON’T keep the weight off. So here’s the solution:

Think about all the things that contribute to you NOT maintaining your weight or staying on your diet plan. Here’s a list from one of my clients:

• Let my exercise program go. Stop taking walks
• Watch a lot of TV, especially in the evenings
• Drink more alcohol, use it to relax
• Spend time with my eating and drinking friends
• Skip all my self-care or nurturing activities
• Never say NO to a party or a fun gathering
• Convince myself I don’t care about my weight
• Stop reading weight loss or personal growth books
• Talk to my mother every day (she always makes me want to eat)

Now take this knowledge about what gets you in trouble and flip it the other way. In other words, do the exact opposite of everything that doesn’t work. You’ll immediately have a great maintenance plan.

How you WILL maintain

Make your own list of ten things that cause you to NOT maintain or stay on your diet plan. Then flip the list by stating each item in a positive way. For example, instead of giving up on your exercise plan, you might say that you always exercise three days a week.

Read your new list every day, and remind yourself that you absolutely DO know how to maintain your weight.

Hi!

Dh and I just started Stillmans today. I've done it in the past w/ great success to lose over 100 lbs. Over the past 18 months it's crept back on! So anyway I'm looking for those Stillman recipes that used to be around. Anyone have them?

Thanks

Lisa

Edit: Well, I found some egg fast recipes that look good! I think the aquacisers site is gone!

Cat - Confession time for me, too! Mine was two days ago...I managed to NOT succomb to the power of donuts, but the next day I did have some bread and one (big) cookie! I did skip dinner, but felt horrible! Was back on track yesterday and today am doing fine... Just sitting here eating my cottage cheese and hot sauce.... Gotta say, just that little influx of carbs made me really sluggish...

Hi everyone!

Still eating on plan here (QWL).

Only weighing once/week so not stepping on the scale until Monday...but I can tell that it is working.

I feel great

The past couple days I haven't gotten in as much water as I am use to, and one day I even forgot to eat. Oops! I am just so busy packing and cleaning so that we can move at the end of the month that it skipped my mind. At least I remembered to feed the kids (like they would let me forget)!

Have a great day everyone!!

congrates to all that are on plan and congrates to those that are gettin back on that fell off, I have to say everyday i try to talk myself into cheating but I keep saying nope u can make it thru till the morning, so Im just gonna go with that and hopefully it takes me to where I wanna be . Life is full of up and downs its the gettin back up that makes us stronger, I no i wasnt supposed to get on the scale but I couldnt help it and omg Im down 3 pounds this morning makes a grand total of 26 pounds this is why I love stillmans U see the results so fast and really the longer U stay on the better it is . I am going to stay off the scale now till next friday liek I am supposed too I cant believe how great I am fittin in clothes that I couldnt get on comfortably on x mas and now are fitting perfect actually a lil to big so amazing I went and bought a smaller pair going to try em on today and see how much futher ill have to go till there perfect thats really how I plan on gadging my success, CUZ THE SCALE CAN BE SUCH A LET DOWN SOMETIMES BUT CLOTHES ARE THE TRUE MEASURE FOR ME~I have learned over the years that I wait to long to try on new clothes and see really how far Iv COME AND THAT CAN LEAD TO A SLIP UP . I feel amazing and so much more energy I really love the results from still mans I know this is my year to reach goal and I am super excited since It has taking me so long with taking off so much weight to go months will maintaining and gaining back a lil but the real journey is learning to keep it off and I know that its all for a reason , so with all that said good luck chicas I am going out tonight and looking forward to it since nothing feels better than losing weight and ppl telling u how good u look... stick with it this really does work I love doing stillmans to jump start my atkins so I got sometime to play with stillmans till summer thats when i love to eat fresh veggies and watermelon so im gettin where I got to be so I can im also doing mini goals my next mini goal is a party for my bf's uncle on the 30 th of this month would really like 10 more off so im goign for it, and then valentines day already told my bf to plan on taking me out dancing cuz ill be ready to show off..... wat are ur goals any one got some mini goals or special dates that are coming up?

Alison...Sometimes I wish I could forget to eat, but I'm not near as busy as you are!

Magickal...I'm starting to love fitting in clothes too. I have also noticed that even if we eat maintenence calories on low carb the body reshapes and loses fat. I have started wearing jeans again since I've gotten some hand me downs...and the legs and butt are getting baggy. I was wearing stretch type pants for comfort but now these jeans are comfortable again. I'm really getting there...just 67 pounds to goal which may seem like a lot to some but I'm more than half way there from where I started.

Ate on plan and even was strangely not very hungry...really strange for me, trust me!

Checking In

Well, I've bounced on and off plan and have been super busy, so not posting much. Congrats to all who have been staying on track.

I did manage to get to the gym this morning and feel more up for sticking to things today. I got sick just before Christmas and was feeling crummy for almost three weeks, then it was hard to get back in the groove. The weather here is beautiful right now, so that helps. I'm going to make a point of getting outside to get some sun. Maybe take my dog for a walk.

I'm about 159, so it's better than where I was, but I'm hoping to have a really good couple of weeks to finish of January.

Have a super weekend.

My daughter in SF was all too happy to tell me that she was getting a tan by the pool the other day, while it was below zero and snowing here! I really envy you...wish I could get outside and walk! And yes, I know I could, I am just really super sensitive to the cold!

I was down to 151 and then fell off the wagon. Today is a new day and a new week!

I'm baaack! I've been trying for months, okay maybe even a year now just to stick to SOMETHING....I refuse to look like this this summer. I have 2 small boys and they will want to go swimming as soon as it gets warm. So since I have been reading this thread for soo long, I'm going to do what Denise did and walk 3 miles in the morning and 3 in the evening and stick strictly to Stillmans. I will post occassionally and weigh once a week. If I get too excited for myself, I start sabotagging - I know, weird So I will keep everyone posted on my progress! You all are doing AMAZING!! I'm soo inspired by all of you and can't wait to join!

Smile

I will post occassionally and weigh once a week. If I get too excited for myself, I start sabotagging - I know, weird So I will keep everyone posted on my progress! You all are doing AMAZING!! I'm soo inspired by all of you and can't wait to join!

Welcome Darlah!. Yes Denise is a great example isn't she? If you're not used to so much exercise you may want to work yourself up to that. I think Denise worked her way up to that. Whatever happens..if you fall off..just get right back on the plan. We all fall off sometimes and the trick to losing long term is never give up and always forgive yourself when you mess up.
Good luck and try to check in with us as much as you can.

I'm on plan yesterday and today...the 14 day shape up.

Have a great Sunday!

Hi Meg!

Yes, she did an awesome job last year! I have been thinking about her 6 miles per day all day and I'm going to start with WATP 4 mile walk. I know it's not really much in comparison, but I think it's a good start right? Better than the Walking to the Couch program that I've been on for quite a while haha! How is your program going? Great I hope!

Hey Sassy - Denise is Cskies - she lost 50 some pounds last year doing Stillmans! She walked 6 miles per day doing it Hope you're doing well!

Hi Artgal!

Absolutely, jump on in!! Congratulations on getting off to such a fantastic start! My day 1 is today - yikes - wish me luck I had big exercise plans, but forgot that my kiddies don't have school today, so I'll be working out around them?? Not sure how that will go, but my oldest likes the treadmill, he'll do 50 minutes, so if I can convince my lil guy that Mommy should do the same, then I think we're in pretty good shapehaha!

Have a great day Everyone!

Welcome artgal and congrats!!

Yesterday i had 3 chicken legs, 2 chicken breasts and some broccoli. I went to the restaurant yesterday and i didn't eat anything off plan even the though the bread basket was in front of me. I ordered off the kids menu and had the chicken and broccoli. I am so proud of myself for not messing up for the first time at a restaurant!!
