Water
Okay, I was just watching the morning local news, and they were discussing water intake. They said people in Vegas need more water than people in most of the other cities across the nation. Here is what they discussed (each glass being 8 oz): 8 daily for everyone minimum +2 if you live in a pretty hot climate +2 if you live in an extremely hot climate +2 if you live in a pretty windy climate +3 if you live in a very dry climate +3 if you live an active lifestyle +2 if you have a lot of protein in your diet +2 to 3 if you drink caffeine or alcohol So, I am up to 19 on a non-alcohol and non-exercise day! WOW! Of course, the more high water content food in your diet, the less water is necessary.

Tommie...Inspect the package of sugar-free candy. Does it have carbs? The answer will tell you if you can have it.

Wow, this thread is hopping today...Farley, I did really well back in April with Stillmans and I had about 4 or 5 sugar free hard candies a day. I was like you and I could not stand the taste in my mouth. But it never knocked me out of ketosis and I lost about a pound a day. Then I got stupid and gained some of the weight back.
I need to get to ketosis so my appetite goes away... I am thinking by Friday I will be there...and these horrible cravings will go away. I am with you all on the cheat free till 3....I leave on the 12 of July to go to the outer banks...and not to mention my pool will be in by next weekend and we are having alot of people over to break it in....I am not bikini ready right now.....I have to remember these things when the oreos start calling to me from the pantry!!! Jessie....thanks for that information!! I have had 3 today and was really getting worried!!! But that darn Ketosis breath and dry mouth kills me!! I try to get by with just drinking more, but it doesn't really help!! Bikini....OMG...I don't even want to think about it!! I wore one 2 years ago, but MAN...it had been a while since I tried one on and O BOY...it wasn't good!!! hehehe.....Plus now that I think about it...I loaned all of my cute ones to a friend of mine who just got a boob job and could fill out the cups!!
I need to get those back!! No wonder I couldn't find a swim suit the other day!! Not that I was gonna let anyone see, but I did climb in the pool with the boys Sunday...Its a LITTLE BITTY POOL!! hehe...Steph...You can buy the Pee strips that will turn pink if your in Ketosis. I keep them on hand all the time. They are in the Diabetic section at the pharmacy or Wal-mart. They have saved my life!! If I know I'm burning ketones, then I'm less likely to cheat!!! Plus when I eat something I'm not sure about, the ketone stick shows it!!! |

Thanks for the info about the sticks.. I will have to run out and get some this weekend. Nights are the hardest for me. I am a super picky eater as well... so I am limited which is hard. I dont like cottage cheese or hard boiled eggs... or tuna!! So its pretty much steak, hamburger, turkey, fish and shrimp... and what woudl i do without the SF jello!! By the way... how many of those can i eat? I have ate about 5/day. They keep me from cheating. I really really really want to do this, this time!

When you eat meat do you use any marinades? I had flank steak today at work but Im not sure if it had any carbs.. I try to stick to what I bring from home.. but turkey is getting OLD! |

Steph...I usually don't use any marinades...so many have hidden sugars. I would say about anykind of dry seasoning would work. Plus alot of your marinades have oil in them. And Stillmans is strictly NO fat! Just stick with your dried seasonings.
I found my candy at the pharmacy. Wal-mart has some, but read your labels...not all sugar free candy is low carb!!! |

Okay... I decided to do the Hamburger & Lettuce Repetition Diet. I must say 1/2 cup of lettuce is nothing! My son was giggling at how little I put on the plate. The burger was very satisfying. It is so true when Dr. Stillman says the appetite will be gone by the third day. I wasn't even hungry at 12:30 when I ate and had been awake since 7:00am.
Well, another chiropractor appointment today. He told me absolutely no exercise, besides light walking. Oh well, losing some weight and consistently getting my body worked on will do wonders!!! Tommie~ Your trip sounds fun! As far as the candy, it is not on his list and therefore not permitted. After saying that, if those little candies are what keeps you going, then what the heck. Beware of the cramps, gas, and runs if you eat too many! Thanks, because I feel blah! ![]() Steph~ I am pretty picky, too, but have gotten much better. You can also eat crab, lobster, hotdogs with skin removed, lean roast beef, and there are so many kinds of fish to also choose from. Let me find the link for the recipes.... Jessie~ How fun to get a new pool! I am in, too! Cheat free until 3! AND... if I do meet with my friends before that, I will order diet soda! They will all be like and think I am sick or something! Now, are you going to say no next weekend when the friends are over enjoying the new pool?!? You can do it!!!! |

Hi everyone. I finished up my fast and today did the egg repetition diet. I lost 7 lbs. during my 2 day fast. I am happy and haven't even been that hungry today. I have a party to go to tonight and plan to eat my boiled egg before I go. There will be healthy food there but I don't to blow this now because I think I am close to or in ketosis. It feels great.
I have been using Listerine strips for my breath and bad taste in my mouth along with drinking something all the time. Well I have to go. Hope everyone has a great rest of your day. Haven't decided which repetition diet I will try tomorrow. Might stick with the boiled eggs or do a turkey burger with lettuce. Mary

Tommie - I actually fasted for 2 days. The book has different diets and one area talked about starting things off with a 1-2 day fast. It isn't for everyone but I needed something drastic to jump start things.
I drank a lot of water, coffee, tea and soft drinks plus you can have broth or bouillion 3 times a day. I was actually surprised at how easy it was for me. I really wasn't hungry and since I couldn't eat anything I couldn't rationalize a taste of this or that. I do best on that kind of strict structure. Today I have had 3 hard boiled eggs and one serving of broth plus coffee, soft drink and water. It is one of the repetition diets. Mary |

Laura....love your pic!!!
I am down another .5 pound, though yesterday I HAD to put a spoon of peanut butter in my mouth. I used to do that a lot when I was on atkins but I've been trying to stick to stillmans by the book, but I guess it is better than scarfing down a candy bar. I'm like you all w/the ups and downs. I lost a lot of weight about 8 years ago, and I held it at between 117-125 for about 6 years. About 2 years ago, we moved to Japan and I decided not to find a job here, so I ended up going up to 140, cooking elaborate dinners and baking cookies and other goodies for when the kids came home afterschool. Then I got pregnant and my baby will turn 1 on Sat. So here I am again, trying to lose some of this weight. But I am so confident in the WOE, it works but you have to your part. This board has helped me immensely. It has made me accountable, and when I do slip, I have to think about what I did or why I did it when posting my messages. Everyone looks like they are just dropping the weight like crazy. Keep it up........ |

Steph~ No alcohol on Stillman's, although it is up to you if you'd like to have a couple drinks. There are low carb beers and also your thought of hard alcohol with a sugarfree mixer would work. I don't plan on ever giving up having drinks with friends here and there. As long as you know you can hop right back to strict Stillman's the following day and that the alcohol won't cause you to get the munchies and eat other stuff. No judgment from the gang here if you have a few.
![]() Also, cheat free until 3 means no cheats until July 3. That's my b-day and works for a lot of us, because we may have Independence Day plans! ![]() Last edited by Hoops : 06-18-2008 at 06:23 PM. |

By the way... I am off all summer and will be a posting queen almost all summer! If I disappear for a few days, then I am probably cheating!!!!
I have 2 fairly new dogs and feel vacations (which those who know me I am out of town every month and 4 or 5 times usually in the summer) are out of the question. Gee... dieting on Stillman's and no vacations will mean lots of extra money to treat myself other ways!!! Hmmm... maybe the spa, or that facial I never got, or What do you all do to reward yourself?Mary~ You're doing great!!!! The Egg Repetition Diet was so-so, but the weight did come off the following day. It seems fish takes it off pretty quickly, too. I did the extra lean hamburger and romaine today, so I'll see how that works for me tomorrow. Do you already have a plan for the week or taking it day by day which one you choose?LaRon~ Awe, your little one's first birthday!!! That is so sweet. You're so right, this does work and it works pretty quickly. That is why I decided to jump on again. Thank you, too.Last edited by Hoops : 06-18-2008 at 06:33 PM. |

Steph...I went back and read all of your postings since u came to LCF...I dont want to sound mean, but have you read any "book" at all about lowcarb? You dont seem like you are ready or prepared at all to follow any of the plans. It does take some reading and planning before starting to get it all going... You are actually not on day 3 if you ate those goldfish and candy the other day...you need 3-5 days of NO carb/NO sugar to really get into Ketosis, alcohol will set you back even more, even if u were in ketosis, your body will burn alcohol before it burns any of your body fat.
I started spotting last night, not real TOM yet, but of course I am back up one pound 211.0 today ![]()

WOW what a bunch os post 'ho's
Can't a heffa go to work without being 10 pages behind![]() I had a great day....busy at work and sold something so life is good. Food was good today as was the water intake ![]() There are too many posts to reply to but I have to reply to Steph.......eating all the s/f jello/s/f candy etc. is feeding a craving.....as long as you feed them they will not go away.....just sayin You might want to try chewing s/f gum and/or a cup of hot green tea with a little splenda when you just find yourself "wanting" something. I would say if you have had 5 in a day that is excessive and bottom line is you have to learn to control excessive behavior if you plan to change how you eat. I realize it is hard but you can do it![]() As for the ketosis question......I can always tell I am in ketosis by my breath.....tastes like camel arse.....and my appetite goes on vacation. If you do buy the sticks remember this.....darker is not better....as long as they register you are in ketosis. The color can depend on various things such as how much water you have drank, fat intake, last meal etc. I bought the sticks when I first began lowcarbing because I "wanted to be sure". But I have since learned that my breath and lack of appetite and looser clothes tell me all I need to know.
