Stillman's QWL & IBS

I went to the Dr. this morning and after studying the results of some tests I had taken previously, she diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). I have had the symtoms for years. She also said I had to cut out all caffiene, limit my fats to below 30% of my daily calories and eat more fiber. In fact, she wants me to eat bran cereal every morning and cut out dairy products. So I don't think I can stay on the QWL Diet. I was doing really well on a lean protein low carb diet. It is really aggravating.

There are lots of successes that I've heard of with a low-fat and/or low carb diets as well, including the fiber regimen!!! Do some research and I know you'll find the right thing!!!

I bet some of the readers on the other threads here might have have input as well.

Keep reading and let us know how you are doing from time to time!!!!

Fluffy - check into the South Beach Diet! I lost most of my weight on that, and you are allowed fiber and it is low-fat. Sounds ideal for your situation!

Thanks. I read the book several years ago. I will check it out from the library and read it again.

Fluffy,
for fiber, have you tried the GG Crackers Netrition sells? Very fiborous. I eat it them with all kinds of things. Like cottage cheese, tomato, pn butter, etc....you could add that the the plan. They are also low carb.

Wishing you well.

low carb is great for ibs and infact if what the doc suggests doesn't work, come right back. the meds they offer are just bandaids and ultimately don't work. my mom and daughter were the first in the family w symptoms and that's how we started controlled carb eating. google specific carb diets and then breaking the vicious cycle. the latter is a book but there's a site for it as well. after years of trying to controll ibs w grain based diets and meds, controlled carb is the only thing that's worked. there's no need to suffer through grain based carbs at all and, in fact, that's the greatest cause. good luck.
