Hi LoveJohn,
My name is Diana, and I've been reading your posts on Stillman's. I'm doing Atkins right now and have come to a stall, I was wondering if I could do the QWL and see some results. This sounds really good to me, and would like to give it a shot, only how long on doing this and why no fats of any kind.

Thanks for the Helps!
Diana

Hi Diana!
Originally, my understanding is that the QWL diet is not meant for real long term use, although I've been on it as long as 6 months at a time before (with a couple free weekends thrown in), and have lost as much as 70 lbs. over that period of time. I do stretching exercises and walking has been best for me personally since I have never been overly athletic.

The best thing probably is to find the book, done by Maxwell Stillman, I believe in the late 60's/early 70's. I will look in mine at home and see when it was printed, usually you can find them at a used book store, or goodwill, or salvation army. I don't know if Amazon.com would have it, but you would pay much more, even at a used price than if you found it like I said.

If you read through the first part of the book, he explains it real well and it is inspiring as he talks about some case studies on how people lost the weight and how much over a period of time.

I'll try to re-cap without being confusing. The reason for no fats and all protein is to put your body in a state of ketosis, so that the excess stored fat will burn up and be washed out of your system. It's a super-charged protein diet and it is VERY restrictive. If you follow the diet as stated (see the main threads at the top when you first open the Stillman's section), it tells what you can & can't have, and the results are proven.

Most of us who have started have lost between 7-10 lbs. the first week. However, the first 3 days are the hardest.

My version is modified. This is my 3rd time and I know what I can eat and not eat and still lose weight. I've relaxed my version of the Stillman's, because I can still lose at least 2 lbs. a week doing it this way, my personal choice. I think I lost the weight too fast last time so I want to take it slower. Also the reason I chose this diet is that there is no question about what you can or can't eat.

I hope this doesn't seem too babbling, it's hard to describe everything you know about the diet and what you've been through in a couple paragraphs.

Daniel (Slatman), has been posting and he's done the diet before, he may be able to add more to this. He may be reading the posts and hopefully will add his wisdom in on this.

I see from your stats that you've lost 35 lbs. so far - WAY TO GO!!!

Also, keep reading all the posts, as many as you can. That's what helped me when I first found this site, I read all the way through all the posts on the pages. Took awhile, but I was inspired and learned a lot too!!!

Hope this helps, I'll get the book out and try to maybe find some other helpful stuff in it!!!

Take care,
Jane

Diana,
Just FYI - On a whim I checked Amazon.com, they have The Quick Weight Loss Diet, used condition, one of them is listed at $2.95 and says $3.99 shipping.

Jane-
Thanks for the information!! I think I may see where I can find this book, I'll check out Amazon and where ever else I can get it.
I did read the posts and printed out the QWL info. I may do more research on it and then try it maybe over the weekend.
I just want to speed up my weight loss a little bit more, then slow it down a bit. My goal is to lose about 20 lbs by Thanksgiving, so I hope that's doable.
Thanks Again!

Diana,
Sounds good! If you wanted to try QWL for a couple weeks, that may jump-start your weight loss again, then can go back to what you were doing, sounds like you did well on Atkins too!!!

Have a great day.

Diana!

The paperback book I have is titled "The Doctor's Quick Weight Loss Diet", by Irwin Maxwell Stillman and Samm Sinclair Baker. On the inside it states copyrighted 1967, and the paperback I have says First Printing 1978.

I read through the first couple chapters again but the information he gives is so intermixed I couldn't pinpoint one place that I could copy of type out, other than what's already been posted by others on the Stillman's thread.

Have a great day!

Ok, I was on for two days, and fell off just that quickly. I started again yesterday, and I SWEAR I'm sticking to it. I don't know what my problem was last time, but I was having the worst cravings even on the first day. I'm two days in this time and so far I'm fine. I have ketone sticks that show that I'm already going into ketosis. I used one today knowing it was way too early, but it did change color a little so I'm pretty sure by tomorrow I'll be fully in ketosis.

Yesterday
B: 3 hard boiled eggs
L: chicken broth
S: sugar free jello
D: chicken broth
Exercise
30 minutes elliptical
30 minutes treadmill on incline
ab work

So far today
B: 3 hard boiled eggs (by tomorrow I'm bringing it down to 2. 3 is too much)
L: chicken broth
D: 1/2 ham steak (1 serving)

Heading to the gym shortly to do the same as yesterday, adding on as much time in the sauna that I can handle. I'm sure I'll also have a sugar free jello when I get home.

Slat: You're probably right... only problem is this diet can get pretty darn expensive with all that meat, and I'm pretty broke. I could try to incorporate a little more protein... maybe more eggs (but just the whites) and an occassional burger or piece of chicken.

Chronie: It's been about 2 full days now, so hopefully I'll be in ketosis by the end of tommorrow.

The gym kicked my butt today. I did the same as yesterday (elliptical and treadmill) but somehow managed to get more distance in the same amount of time. I thought I was gonna die yesterday, don't know how I went faster today. I also did 25 minutes in the sauna, which I'm going to try to do about 2x weekly.

Hi!
I too am on a very strict budget. Try buying 1-2 lbs. of hamburger and make yourself some meatballs, then freeze them. As you go along in the diet you will get less hungry and maybe only eat 2 per meal, should stretch it out a bit for you.

Exercise yesterday:Yes, I did both!
Walk the dog 1 1/2 miles
My exercises

Have a great day!
