Rartz - you should be free of any hunger by day 3 or you need to up the fat (meat) a bit

Re: bad taste in the mouth "metal mouth" as I call it.. brush your teeth 3 times a day and
brush your tongue... use breath strips (sugar/calorie free)

I can't believe there are still people doing Stillman's! This is great! I have the book, and boy is it old, like from the late 70's and did it many years ago and it was not a problem at all. I am just starting Atkins again and am only in my 2nd week of induction and doing fine but I KNOW I will stall and I would like to jump over here and do OWL for a few days when that happens if that's okay? Or is this a 'permanent' WOE for you all? To tell you the truth I have almost been doing it already, and just tday I finally bought field greens and cheddar cheese! I swear except for the mayo and fatty meats I've consumed it's been pretty similar to Stillman's. Anyway you all are doing great, keep up the good work and I will probably be lurking around quite a bit for advice!

I have the really old book and was reading it last night. I remember doing it like 25 years ago and had success.

So do you do it for 14 days and then what? Back to Atkins?

Basically it is just like Atkins but without the fat (cream butter mayo) and instead of hard cheese, it's cottage or farmers cheese right?

I am really pumped to start it again but I think I should at least finish this second week of induction first. I thought of starting it when I hit a plateau...
what are your thoughts? Do you guys just post contiually or have a start date and buddy up?
Thanks guys!

Another Qestion..... (sorry)

Ive been taking a tsp. of Phsyllium husks daily for constipation. My jar says 0 carbs. but it is fiber, so would that be allowed on Stillman's?

Hi!
I take fiber supplements while doing Stillman's. They really help in that department.

Yes you are correct - no butter, no mayo (love the stuff), no oils or fat.
I eat the low-fat cottage cheese and still lose. Some others eat no-fat cottage cheese, but to me it tastes nasty.

Also, you can stay on Stillman's as long as you want, but I would recommend adding in some veggies and/or salads now and then. And take a good multivitamin. I just started taking GNC's Ultra Mega Active - it contains supplements for electrolyte replacement which, if absent, cause the leg cramps and tingling. Hope this helps!

Good luck and welcome!

No you can go back on Stillman for another14 days till you reach your goal.
Then eat what you like but go back on the diet when you gain three pounds
and lose weight againt
Tomorrow I will try going lower fat by having beef only one day a week to see if the diet works faster

I am really surprised ketsup is allowed since it has sugar in it!
I think I may start it on Monday. My ketosticks have not turned purple yet on Atkins and I've read that on Stillmans you are about guaranteed to go into ketosis, is that true? Have any of you lost considerable weight and never turned the sticks purple?

got the book!

oh my gosh... it is hysterical! i love how vintage it is and calling people fatty's... can you imagine that in this day and age???? the weight chart is ridiculously low too compared to more contemporary guidelines.

anyway, i lost 5 pounds the first three days and then stalled for three days. that's okay, 5 pounds is awesome!

Is Stillman's the same as the "Meat and Eggs" diet? Seems to be, but from what I've read many people do the M & E for 3 days when they hit a stall on Atkins and it doesn't seem quite as strict with the fat, but you don't 'add' any, what comes with the meat and eggs is ok.

WB Jane

at the softball field all weekend eating out all meals and another birthday meal "greek" sunday
night... carbs probably in in the 40's or 50's per day no sugar even though everyone had dessert
around me all weekend...not worth 4 days of induction for a bite of crap really didn't want it anyway

no loss no gain for the weekend I'll consider that a "win"

B: turkey sausage / scrambled eggs
L: bacon cheeseburger no bun
D: Burger patty small salad lettuce only

cycling 15 minutes on exercise bike (kinda wet out after a rain)

twitime.. the idea on both plans which are very similiar is to eat ENOUGH fat to keep your appetite in check and your portion size goes down. after three days you should feel full after all meals even though you may have had a 300 calorie
meal. One little slip up and you have to go through the 3-4 days all over again. That is the main reason most cannot stay on plan. You can add small portions of lettuce or vegies (low carb like brocoli) and not damage your plan too much but any white flour, sugar, and for many any alcohol and you're back to square one.
Adding heavy fat items like mayo is not good for your loss. It's straight fat and won't fill you up like a piece of meat but will send your calories over the top. Also watch that ketchup, barbecue sauce, mayo, ranch dressing etc... they can have suguar and carbs that will get you out of ketosis. Use Fitday to track what you eat, and exercise to get where your net calories for the day are much lower than your intake and your on your way. Stick 5 tablespoons of mayo on there and see where your calories go...

Thanks much for responding. I am going to do it for at least three days to get over my "induction stall" and possibly longer but my husband is starting the Atkins on Tues. and now our freezer is full of pork chops and a big pork butt roast, steaks, etc. which may be too fatty but we'll see. I can just start pulling out and making chicken and fish!!
I was going to start yesterday but I forgot and had 1 tsp. of cream in my coffee and then for breakfast had the One minute muffin, so I guess I blew it! The rest of the day though I only ate pouched fish (fresh caught crappie, yum!) and lots of hard boiled eggs!
So today, black coffee and I am poaching 3 eggs right now for breakfast!
I also took a walk first thing this morning so I feel I am on the right track!
Thanks so much for answering my questions!

Sorry I am so clueless...

but I thought we were supposed to cut our fat? Just Lean proteins and eggs and no full fat cheese or cream etc. Are you saying we should eat the fat like with Atkins?

Hi All, nice to see some new names on the board!

Left for festival eaarrrllly Thursday morning, I weighed then and was down another 1.5 to 211!

I did real well at festival, eating mostly meat, cheese and veggies when I could find them. My only transgressions were a small amount of cinnamon almonds and some kettle corn from the vendors.

I walked my legs off, would walk in the a.m., then after eating lunch, and then again in the evening. I drank tons of water since it was hot there, but was still able to have a cappucino each a.m., and drank less than usual on the Diet Coke.

Yesterday was the worst for me - was tired and on the 5 hour drive home we stopped at McD's - had 2 chicken salad wraps, then at home hubby wanted calzones from Pizza Hut, so I ate a half of one.

Overall, I gained 3 lbs back between Thurs. a.m. and this a.m., but starting back on the diet today and know it will come off this week!!!!

So my weight loss up until Thurs. a.m. has been 26 lbs since middle of July - 2 months almost. I am very pleased with that and I'm still ready to lose more weight and committed to keep going!!!!

Have a great day all!!

Jane

Curious, what are Chinese lettuce wraps? Sounds intriguing.
