Hi Everyone,
Another cheat free day under my belt!!! I have to admit I agree with you ls135 it is hard, however I’m finding that it is getting easier to resist temptation. Although I’m still hungry at times I seem to be ok with the protein. The reason why I say this is because my husband brought home a small point of chocolate brownie ice cream (one of my favorites). He tried to hide it in the back of the freezer but some how it managed to appear before my eyes LOL. Well I have to admit I stared at it for about 5 minutes finally I closed the freezer and ate an egg LOL. I don’t think I could have resisted 4 days ago. I’m thankful I resisted and this is showing me that my willpower is stronger than I gave it credit. Everyone have a wonderful, cheat free day.

new here, with big goals
Hi everyone, I have been listening in for the last few days and wanted to jump on board, you are all doing amazing. I am trying my hardest to get at least 30 lbs gone by Oct. 17, We are going to Vegas and I have my skinny jeans waiting.
I have been doing stillman's for about 1 week and have seen about a nine pound loss. Today the scale is up a few pounds, no clue why, I was really good yesterday. I am living on eggs and chicken and an occassional eas avant edge shake in coffee. Any suggestions? Looking forward to getting to know everyone here. start 186 right now 179 want to be 140 |

Hi chace1 -
It seems like you are doing well. As far as the weight thing goes I find that sometimes your weight goes up just before you lose weight. I believe that's pretty common and that's why I don't like to step on scale but once a week or once every two week. Sometimes the scale can sabotage your positive state of mind. Since you lost nine pounds I’d say you’re on your way. Everyone – I just wanted to share something with you. If you’re like me then you have days where u just hate the taste of protein. I now bushing my teeth 2 to 3 times during the day with a very soft bristle brush and this is working wonders!! Also I’m venting now. For the past 5 days I’ve been having turkey burgers, eggs, and fish. If I look at another turkey burger I think I’m going to scream. The though of eating another turkey make me nauseous. ![]() So I think I’m going to shop for some chicken, turkey pepperoni chips, steak, shrimp, and make some quiche w/ a little mozzarella cheese (not sure if this is Stillmans or not but I’ll go very easy on the cheese). Hi All,
Desha you were talking about eggs, I know, ugg. I usually take them hard-boiled to work, but at home sometimes I use a bit of non-stick spray in a pan and "fry" them up, or add a small bit of cottage cheese to them and do scrambled. I think it's an adventure to go to the store and try new things and what's neat is that you learn you can still have them on the diet and lose weight!!! Everyone's metabolism is different and I like turkey bacon a lot, cooked in the microwave, and also those pre-made meatballs, they add variety. Some cheeses I can eat, others I can't. If I'm trying something new I just put a little bit on. It sure helps the taste of things. Once I made a "pizza" out of an egg crust, very little ketchup, hamburger, and fat free cheese. It looked better than it tasted - ha ha!!! Well, keep up the good work all. I am resisting the temptation myself to step on the scale, told myself I was going to wait as long as I could before weighing, we'll see, my body feels lighter today! Take Care! Jane |

Desha - Congrats to u for resisting temptation & cheat free days!!! J- what kind of cottage cheese do you buy?? brand?? I haven't had any & really would like to add it... I don't know how much water or coffee u guys drink; but I try to have at least 80-100 ounces of water... and a couple of cups of coffee... i'm wondering if the caffeine speeds up your metabolism??? I am trying really hard to resist getting on that scale... i'm shooting for this Friday & hopefully - it will be down at least 7lbs. Well, talk to u all later... have a great rest of the day!!! |

Hi!
Cottage cheese is not my favorite food, so I don't eat it real often, but I just get whatever I pull off the shelf pretty much. I prefer the small curd over large, and store brand is fine for me. I know some of the other folks have recommended low-fat or 2% cottage cheese, so they may have some additional input. I drink my 64-oz water a day and then some (I stop counting it after I get my 64 in), usually 2 cans diet coke total during the day, I like coffee so have 2 cups in am and one after lunch, sometimes before bed (helps me sleep). The neatest thing for me was that I love cappucino and went to the coffee house to test it out on Stillman's - I had them make it with skim milk, no flavoring, and I added a non-dairy creamer to it, and it did not affect my diet one bit, so I am happy. I usually treat myself once a week to the cappucino, but that's with sugar-free flavor added and full milk, so it was nice to know that if I want to have it I can. I think I'm going to do it only once every 2 wks or so. I used to drink TONS of flavored creamer in my coffee and had cut that all out about a month or so ago, so I don't want to get started back on that again. That really packed on the pounds for me!!! I hope I answered your questions and sorry for rambling on about the cappucino.... J |

Good morning everyone,
I hope every one is doing well. I just wanted to say I'm still hanging in there cheat free. I had this urge to weigh myself. I tried not too, but I just couldn’t help myself. So the verdict; I lost 10 pounds. WOW I was excited. Now I get to update my signature. |

ls135 - I had a small cheat to. I had a salad with no dressing but it was great. I enjoy ever bit of it. Anyway, keep focus and get back on track and keep going.
All - now that I'm back to normal I’m going to kick it up a notch. I haven't been going to the gym this week, but I’m going to get back on track starting tomorrow morning. I’m excited about this. I feel very good and I even had someone notice that I’m losing. Jane – How are you doing? I hope everyone has a good day. BE STRONG!!! |

Hi Desha & Everyone!
I'm doing fine, hanging in there. Going to weigh tomorrow. It's hard for me today - I work in a nursing home and do clerical work. Well, my office is near the kitchen. There are big double doors that are always closed so that's good. But I had to walk up to the front offices a bit ago and MAAANNNNNN, they're pulling fresh chocolate cake out of the ovens. That warm smell just wrapped around me, and talk about temptation!!! Plus what the residents had for lunch, the combination of all the food also smells like I'm at a carnival with corn dogs, and fried stuff. I sniffed and sniffed and went mmmmmm, but then came back here, got my dry boiled egg, turkey meat & jello and sat down to eat my lunch. So I think I'll make it. I haven't had a diet coke yet today so that's my splurge as well. Have a great day, I'll keep in touch!!! Jane |

Hi all...
well i got on the scale this a.m. - it showed a total of 7lbs... i guess i'm a little disappointed after seeing Desha's 10lbs!!(congrats)- but i'm going to get on again tomorrow and see if I lose more! My cheats weren't that horrible (cheese/onions)...maybe I've been eating too much red meat or possibly I've been using splenda(so I cut that out today)... not really sure. But it was still better to lose 7 than just one or two pounds I have to admit!! I just got Stillmans other book - the Inches-Off Diet- yesterday... so I'm anxious to read that one. Well, have a cheat free nite everyone!!! Lisa Last edited by ls135 : 08-10-2007 at 12:05 PM. |

3 more lbs., as of this morning, so I got to change the stats on my profile!!!
So 17 lbs. now and even as I look at the numbers on the scale dial it just doesn't seem possible that I could be at this point now but I also know the scale doesn't lie. So I feel good this a.m. and hope the day will be good as well. Have a great day to all!! Jane |

Hi Lisa!
I don't know if I have any secrets, but here is a sample of maybe what I eat during the day - and I don't count calories or fat or anything or plan anything special: During the week: Breakfast - Usually 3-4 slices of turkey bacon and 2 small cups of coffee. Lunch - A boiled egg, a serving of meat of some sort (a hamburger, or about 8-10 meatballs, or 5-6 slices turkey bacon), a piece of 2% cheese, and a small container of sugar-free jello. Supper - Usually just some kind of meat and cheese, like above. Snack - Usually a small container of sugar-free jello if I'm hungry. Sometimes I'll eat a little extra, or cook up an egg or eat more turkey bacon. and I found I can eat pre-cooked sausage patties too and not throw off the diet so sometimes I'll have one of those in the evening just for variety. I may on occassion by a deli-roast chicken from the store, and then I'll have chicken for a day or two. I ususally have some cottage cheese in the fridge and may have a small amount for a snack as well. I do try to drink my full 64-oz of water each day. I may also have a cup of coffee in the evening, and usually drink about 2-3 cans total diet coke. I know that doesn't sound like much but it is a routine for me, I have to have the routine in order to make it work for me. Weekends are different, sometimes I'll go to the store and buy a steak and then grill it. I occasionally use a tiny bit of bbq sauce (a smidgen) and just a tiny tiny amount (drop) of sugar-free syrup on my sausage. I use ketchup sometimes on my hamburger. I hope this helps. Like I said, there isn't much variety to what I eat. If I find myself getting super hungry I'll go to the store and maybe buy something like shrmip (if I can afford it), and cook that and eat it with cocktail sauce. Or look for something I think will go on the diet, maybe cook up a roast in the crock pot, something like that. Have a super day! Jane |

Hi Jane,
Thanks for all the info; I'm like you too...I need a routine... the above really helps me out. One quick question... do you buy premade meatballs? or make them yourself..I bet they would be good for variety. I've been scared to try Italian sausage - but I guess it worked on Atkins... like you said try stuff & see how it affects the scale! I have a family that I also have to cook for & sometimes it gets really difficult - feeding them & then feeding me... but I try to make good choices for them too. Thanks again!! Hi Lisa,
On the meatballs, I ususally buy them pre-made, unless I find a good price on hamburger, then I'll make a bunch of them and freeze them up. On the ready made, I've tried all kinds, plain, sweet/sour, bbq, teriyaki and italian flavored, and none of them have affected the diet. I don't think it's so much the seasoning end of things as some of the store brand meatballs have fillers, I check the carbs and ingredients on back to make sure. I buy the meatballs ususally at Wal-Mart, the brand is Great Value. We have Dillon's stores here (Kroger is parent company) and they also have a brand I can't remember, but they don't taste as good and are cheaper at Wal-Mart anyway. I also cook for my husband and son and the meatballs are handy. I can make spaghetti and meatballs. I keep the items separate, so they can eat the spaghetti, meatballs and sauce, and I can have meatballs with a bit of sauce and sprinkle on parmesan cheese. That has not affected my diet. Also, I'm surprised that I can get away with eating a sausage patty now and again. I know the Stillman's diet doesn't allow pork, but I've been able to eat it without any trouble as long as I don't overdo it. I also found I can have beef or turkey summer sausage and some regular hard cheeses, though I go sparingly on these and maybe just 1-2 slices for a snack. When I feel like I need to eat it's so handy just to grab a small cube or cheese (I keep them cut up in a container) or two and then I can make it until meal-time. So maybe I am really doing a modified Stillman's, but like you said too, a person just has to find out what their metabolism will take and still remain on the diet. It's different for everyone. I know I'm getting wordy, but one other thing I have done is have an agreement with my husband and son. There is a bottom drawer in our refrigerator that is desinated as "mom's food" - so I can put anything I want in there and know it won't be touched. Guys like to snack and they would eat everything in sight if I left up in the frig racks, so this has solved my problem and that way I know what I put in there, will be there when I need it. Have a great Sunday!! Desha, are you still out there? Would love to hear how you are doing? Take Care, Jane |

Hi Jane,
Thanks for the all the info! I am definetly going to check out Wal-mart. I am back to reading my QWL book...and back on track today! Sat & Sun I had a few cheats.. but I am back to QWL - no matter what I lose it's better than gaining. I did start to read his other book about QWL -inches...but he pretty much states you should be at ideal weight before doing that one. So, since I have so much to go... I am getting started today and just going full steam ahead. I definetly want to be in "onederland" (that does mean in the 100's right?!) by year end; I should be able to reach that goal before though...if I follow QWL. I can't wait to get there...I can't believe I let myself go so far and for so long. But enough about the past...one day at a time. I'm still lovin' the old clothes fitting me again... it is great to get rid of the 'big ones' now!! Well, sorry for going on & on... I hope all is good with you, along with everyone else. Hope to hear from everyone & their progress!!! Have a CHEAT-FREE day - talk to you all later! Lisa |

Lisa,
I wanted to comment on the italian sausage. I don't know if that's made with beef, or pork, or both, but you might expiriment with it. If you make it for your family one night, have a 1/2 of one or something and see if it effects the diet, that way you'll know. If it works out, then add it to your diet. I commented one other post somewhere here, that the QWL diet books were written in the late 60's/early 70's and while I feel the plan is good, basically the diet is 30+ years old, so at that times, we didn't have all the things we do now, like turkey bacon and other things (low-fat cheeses, cottage cheeses). And this is only my opinion and what works for me, but I love to expiriment. It adds so much variety for me to know I can eat something else without it throwing off the diet. I'm in this for the long haul, I don't plan to stop until I reach my goal, so the more variety I know I can eat and still lose weight, I'm all for it. I also know that last time (I track my weight on a chart), that there would be some weeks where I would lose at the most, 3 lbs, and other weeks just 1. I even hit a plateau at one point after I had lost about 30 lbs. I went off the diet for weekend and then back on again and started losing weight. I know that I will more than likely slip up from time to time, but I am dedicated, this time, to losing the weight and keeping it off for good. Okay, enough preaching, and once again, these are just my opinion, nothing written in stone and nothing said to offend anyone, as I have been told I have a habit of coming off sounding like a know-it-all. I really have a good heart with everyone's best interests in mind. Have a GREAT Monday! Jane |

Hey ladies I was busy over the weekend, but I missed you. Looks like everyone is doing well. This weekend I did pretty good except my girlfriend birthday was this weekend so I did have 2 drinks but I had low-cal drinks. The funny thing is even though I cheated, I still feel like I’m in control. I was able to stop at 2 drinks and got back on the bandwagon right away. This is the first time in a long time that I felt like I have control of what I put into my month. Losing the 10 pounds so quickly made me realize that I can do this if I just STICK TO THE PLAN.
Lisa - thx for the congrats I really appreciate it. Also congrats to you as well 7lbs you should be ecstatic about that. I’m proud of you. I totally understand how you feel. I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired too. You’re not alone—you can do this—hang in there and keep your head up. Also thanks for the support and encouragement you given me. Jane – Another 3lbs girl I’m too scared of you. LOL. You’re taking the lead for now but I’m right behind you so you better keep it up You are extremely motivating to me because we are close in weight and as I read your weight loss results—I feel like if you can do it I can do it too Thanks for all the support and encouragement. I think I try the meatballs as well. Last edited by Desha : 08-13-2007 at 10:07 AM. |
