Induction/Meat&Egg/Stillman's

I "re-inducted" yesterday after much deliberation about how I was going to get started. I wanted to share what I'm trying and I welcome comments/criticism.

I've done '72 induction before.....I've also done M/E for 3 days.

Right now I'm doing what I would call Super LC/Moderate Fat.

No, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I'm looking for a way to not go overboard on carbs AND calories.

What I'm doing is pretty much '72 induction, with one variation: I'm keeping a closer eye on fat. I'm not trying to eliminate it, just moderate it.
For example: More leaner cuts. That doesn't mean I might not have the occasional burger or prime rib. But more chicken and fish and leaner cuts of pork and steak.
Also: VERY limited cheese and salad dressings. No nuts (for now).

Most days I'll have just one small salad. Occasionally other green vegetables.

I'm taking a multi-vitamin, 500mg of vitamin C, and a fiber supplement.

Yes, I'm drinking water...also diet colas and sugar-free ice tea.

This is something I think I can do for an extended period. If I stall, I may try M/E for a few days.

Comments? Suggestions?

Randy,

I have had this battle with myself many times. I personally have done Stillman's on occasion when being off plan or stalled ( for about 8 weeks) I think you have to find what works for you..yet I also think it's very easy to get caught-up in the numbers on the scale vs. a real lifetime plan. If you look at this as a way of life..then you need to find a long-term plan that doesn't have you trying whatever the latest " I lost 8 lbs in 5 days" post is about. It's easy to see others losing fast and want that...but you also have to take a good long look at these posters histories. Why are they doing the m/e fast or Stillman's? do they have a real understanding of a long-term woe or are they yo-yoing but just useing low-carb instead of say ww or Jenny Craig.

I've been low-carbing for over 5 years now..and I know the people that I look to for help and advice are those that have truly changed their lifestyle along with their food ( and I don't just mean those that have made goal...)

All of the things you mentioned will get you in ketosis and probably have you drop some lbs...but which one is liveable long-term. That's what only YOU can answer for yourself

P.S. and let me just say..I gave everyone who asked the " don't go off plan for the holidays" lecture. I then had some stress hit..and yup..went off plan. My first thought was Stillman's..but then I stopped and said " you can't fix this by doing something dramatic..you need to go back to healthy long-term eating and just learn a hard lesson" I'm now on day 2 of induction..and will stay here for at least 1 week..possibly 2. I won't get it off as fast as if I did Stillman's...but then again..how seriously am I going to take my gain if I quick fix it right back off?

Lisa Rae,

I'm one of the yo-yo'ers. I've kept a personal track and I seem to go 3-5 months and then fall off plan. So I haven't committed to the lifestyle change, but I'm trying again.

One thing I noticed this last time "off the wagon" is that I really didn't enjoy the crap I was eating...not to mention the fact that I felt lousy.

I really think if I moderate the fat that I can keep total calories in check and continue to lose. I've learned that if the carbs are low but the calories are rediculously high....you won't continue to lose.

Randy,

I hear ya..I really didn't enjoy my meals off either. I simply was stressed out and went back to the old way I had always comforted myself in the past..numbing myself with food.

I didn't gain a lot back..but really..not at all the point. As I did feel ashamed, bloated and out of control..something I hadn't felt in a good long time.

Reality is..I have always been out of control with food. Either way too little or way too much. I'm really working on learning to find my happy medium. Many days and week can go by and I do well..but stress is something I'm still working on.

ToothPick,

Um Nope I have done Stillman's a handful of time through my 5+ yers of low-carbing..and have been tempted at times to go to m/e fast...but the reality for ME is that, in doing so I will once again be going to an extreme. In the past..that all or nothing mentality is what got me over 250 lbs..and so even though at times it has been very tempting..I now will not go there. NOt even when I'm only 5 lbs up from goal. It's just a very dangerous slope for ME. I can easily get addicted to the loss on the scale.

Makes perfect sense to me...I've been thinking all along you did m/e for some reason... seeing the results many here have had with m/e has me back on it...I confess, I'm one of those all or nothing people...which is why I guess I drop the weight and just put it right back on...maybe this is something I need to address in this new year...

But for now I'm doing m/e (minus the eggs) until I get this weight to a level that I can live with...that would be UNDER 200LBS. Hopefully I will only have to do it for a month or so.

One other point: Many people think your fat % must be high in order to be satiated.
If you're carbs are low and your fat consumption is relatively moderate.....and you're hungry, shouldn't you first make sure you're getting enough TOTAL food?

IOW, don't just add fat, but make sure you're eating enough protein as well?

I think adapting Atkins to fit your body is great. No one said there was only one or two ways to low carb and be healthy. Ive done ME for seven months and really enjoy eating this way. once I hit goal (7 pounds away) I will switch to induction then maint.

Brilliant...you've been doing m/e for so long. I have several questions for you. Did you continue the same rate of loss throughout the 7 months...does it slow down even though you are eating the same foods over and over...I average 1lb daily on m/e (minus the eggs) and would like to do this as long as I possibly can...what weight did you start at (how much have you actually lost in 7 months) what exercises do you do along with m/e... I'm laughing because I'm dumping all of this on you...sorry

Brilliant,

Yeah, I am curious as well. Did you lose all your weight doing m/e? and if not..how much of your overall loss came from m/e or did you start on another plan. Also..are you counting overall calories as well?

Also, I am curious how low your calories and carbs will now have to be to maintane your goal. I'm wondering if you will have to always keep carbs ultra low to keep the weight off. I seriously only know of one other person who did Stillman's to loose her weight..and she was strugggling to maintane big time..then totally dissapeared. Never did find out if she kept it off or how what her carbs ended up at. My gut feeling however, is not good. When people who are very regular posters dissapear..it's usually not a good sign.

All I know is..when maintaneing..I can eat a good 60+ carbs a day and do fine. That gives me a decnet range of foods to enjoy. I don't want to go extreme, only to find I have to eat at induction levels to then maintane. That is too much of a lifetime diet for me.

I also want to add this..just because one person lost doing a plan..doesn't mean that plan is the right one for you! People have to be willing to experiment and find out how there body works. Personally...I know for anyting over 2 weeks..I simply don't lose going ultra low in calories. Call it wwhat you want ( because I know starvation mode gets people insane LOL) that is how my body reacts.
