Kimmer...Stillman questions...

I know you're probably getting tired of being singled out of all the time and asked questions but...I need some advice about Stillmans (or maybe it's really the egg and meat fast - I'm not doing any dairy).

I'm in day 12. I've been doing about 400-500 cals a day - (almost no carbs - very low fat). Weight loss is good. I don't feel hungry... I don't have low blood sugar... I'm in Ketosis for sure...I was planning on doing this for 30 days (my 20 yr HS reunion coming up). Here's my "problem" (maybe it's not really a problem - I don't know): I feel kind of wierd. Kind of like I'm floating. Kind of in a trance or something. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion. I feel detached sometimes... really emotional other times. It's similar to how I've heard people feel when their fasting. Every now and then I get really lethargic. The other night I had a bit of a binge (all LC of course). The next two days I felt really great and sailed through on Stillmans with no problems. Now the spacey floating feeling is coming back. Do you think this is an indication that I need to eat more or do you think I should just ignore these feelings and continue on the way I have been? I mean, it's not like I don't have any fat for my body to burn (I'm about 10-15 from goal), so it can't be dangerous, right?

Just interested in your thoughts on this seeing as how you have experience with rapid weight loss and fasting etc,.

Heather

Heather, it seems like your body is telling you to eat more! Listen to your body! Even stillman is 800 calories. If what you describe happened to me, I would freak out and up my calories to at least 1500 for a while.

wow.. that is really low... i thought low carbing meant not counting calories... i can lose weight.. and pretty muchly eat whatever as long as its on the allowed foods list... and such low calories i would assume that puts your body into starvation mode.. and its kinda defeating the purpose... you should be eating 5-6 meals a day at around 200 calories per meal.. that will help speed up your metabolism.. and the pounds will come off quicker.. hope this helps!

Honestly, I would ignore it. The 'floaty' feeling is very common during detox and 'real' ketosis.

Have you ever water fasted? Chances are your body is detoxing big time. From my reading, our bodies devote 75% of its energy on food digestion ... if there's no much to digest, your body will focus on other very important things, like 'housecleaning'.

Yes, I would imagine your weight loss is fantastic!

As for calories, I wouldn't be concerned at all. Dr. Stillman gave 600-750 calories as an estimate. His instructions are the same as Dr. Atkins, to eat until satisifed. During 'real' ketosis, that requires very little food.

Dr. Atkins actually wrote "The diet works best with just enough calories to stave off hunger." Again, during ketosis, this requires very little food.

Be sure to take a Centrum type vitamin each day!

Thanks Kimmer. I feel better. Sometimes I have a hard time trying to figure out what "hunger" actually feels like. I haven't experienced it very much in my life. I know what the low blood sugar rollercoaster ride is like. But real hunger? Hmmmm... it's a new sensation. Feels pretty good, actually.

I am taking my vitamins (plus calcium and potassium). Again... thanks for your input!

Keep in mind that depending on how old you are and whether you've used medications long term (especially birth control pills), all of that stuff is stored in body fat.

As you lose (especially very rapid loss), that stuff is released into your system. This is why some women have weird TOM during LC because of the sudden extra hormones.

Eat if your hungry, but don't be afraid of hunger. Some people whip themselves into a frenzy if they experience a hunger pang. We're adults, we can exert some self-control ... as in, we don't need to knock down small children to grab food within 30 seconds of feeling 'hungry', LOL!
