An extremely low carb low calorie program designed by Irwin Stillman, MD, when he was in medical school and morbidly obese.

The original plan is lean protein, no added fat, lowfat cheese, diet beverages. No veggies.

If you want the best results, follow the original program not the 'modified' one that appears on this BB.

I did the original version years ago and it does give extremely fast loss (or maybe it was just because I was younger??) but it also gave the absolute WORST constipation I have ever experienced in my entire life. When I see people here post about the "meat fast" to me that is Stillman's without the cottage cheese!

The meat fast allows protein cooked any style, including fried. Stillman's is no added fat, even for eggs. Some modify by using mayo, yogurt, sauces and circumvent the intent by creating desserts with nonfat cream cheese.

Original Stillman's is 600-750 calories and very, very low carbs. The 'modified' plan on this BB could easily be double that with half the original results.

Just a word to the wise ...

Thanks Kimmers! I knew you'd help!! I've been thinking of trying kimkins, but I am afraid of fitday and counting protein . It's so easy just to count carbs. I had my my first cheat of high carb foods a few weeks ago and have been hungry ever since... not to mention losing slowly and barely being in ketosis.

Afraid of Fitday? LOL, don't blame you on that one. I counted protein to make sure I got enough in because in deep 'real' ketosis you have little, if any, appetite.

Stillman's can work out to be similar because if you follow the original plan, you'll lose your appetite in 3-5 days (depends on how 'over' you are on carbs now) ... and if you add a couple small salads eventually, it's not much different.

The most important thing to is follow a plan that you like and feels good for what you're willing to do and fits in your lifestyle. I started my weight loss phase with 3 days of Stillman's to get into ketosis ASAP!

Have you joined any of the Challenge groups?

Kimmer, how do you know that it is really 600-750 calories? I just re-read the book, and I didn't see that anywhere?

Kimmer - what did you eat the first 3 days of Stillman's? I am thinking about trying it but wanted to see what you ate. I have some info on it and have read some posts here but you said it is modified on these boards. Is it listed on your Fitday?

I ate broiled skinless chicken breasts and hard boiled eggs (even a small lean steak is too high in calories).

Catherine, sorry I didn't see your post (I don't check back on many threads after I've had my say, LOL). I read the 600-750 calorie estimate in a book from Dr. Stillman. If not the original, then the second. I haven't read either since 1975.

Kimmer, I just read the book, and he says that 400-900 calories are normal, and sometimes even 2000 is not uncommon. Lean steak is definitely acceptable.
