Calories and Stillman's

Ok..so I went back and looked at a search of stillman's in the bb, as I hadn't done it in about a year..and was looking for info and the link. I started to read that people were saying you had to stay around 500-600 calories on stillman's per day! Now..I have never ever seen that number on any site or info. It basically says to eat ONLY what is on the list (and yep.I see lots of people not doing that also) and eat when hungry..stop when content. It even says that many do better eating 5-6 times a day vs 3.

So..where are these very small calorie numbers comming from..because I have not been able to find them on any Stillman's documented info.

Thanks!

I dunno either. I have never heard of a calorie restriction with stillmans. So this will just have to serve as a bump

Lisa, have you read the book? (I've been dying to say this to somebody, LOL!)

In the original Doctor's Quick Weight Loss Diet or one of his subsequent books is where he mentions the limit. It's not actually a "limit", but what he had in mind. If someone decides to have 3 large lean steaks a day, they'll be 'over' even though 'legal'.

People who eat more than 500-650, or eat fatty foods such as bacon, are doing a meat fat, not Stillman's.

Lisa, have to admit, I'm surprised. You've posted many times that you did Stillman's 3-4 times before, lost well, and regained the weight. Why endure the torture again, LOL?

Oops, forgot to add. Dr. Stillman never did a website before he died. Anything online is from private parties.

Does everyone gain back what they lose on stillmans if they go from stillmans to atkins induction? I have been on stillmans for 7 days... only lost 4 pounds none in the last 2 days. My cals have been between 495 and 605. Will TOM have a negative impact while on stillmans too?

Hey Kimmer...

Thanks for responding hun..Actually I never regained my Stillman's weight I did it 4 times..and unfortuantly the last time I did it I didn't lose a lb. Have no idea why..

I honestly have never seen the stillman's book. It's not a plan I had ever planned to do for more then a week at most..and found it 2 years ago here. Someone did print up a lot of info from the book for me originally...and I went from there.

I know your a truly busy gal..but I would sooo appreaciate it if you get some time..to go to the Stillman's weekend challenge in the challenge board and see how my menu looks. I posted my first 2 days..

Sticking to the list..lean meat, eggs, fat-free cottage cheese and only 1 piece of ff cheese thus far.

Being totally honest..I have not been pro Stillman's. I have told people that it can work. I find it very very restrictive if done for any length. I also always post that it can work..especailly for the last few lbs and if you've been eating clean on atkins and stuck for more then 4 weeks.

Having said that..you know I have no problem losing very slow. But my ego has now (and a goal I made to myself) has gotten in my way. I've been doing very clean atkins..20 carbs..zero products..even dropped my calories way down (which you KNOW I don't normally do LOL) and have not ben able to lose..even 1 lb a week I would wait this out. However..my 3 year Atkinsversary is in mid-sept..and I made a goal to myself last year to be at goal. Guess what..I've got 8 lbs to go! I'm probably doing exactly what I always tell others NOT to do..but there you ahve it..were all human and Damn it..I want goal! LOL

Lisa, "kind and giving"? Wait, let me print that for my kids to see, LOL!

I think your menu looks great! If you find ketosis lets you eat a bit less, go with it. It won't take long to dump that 10 pounds, so your calories won't be very low for long.

Dr. Stillman then suggests adding veggies a bit a time, then fruit, then grains (hmmm, sound familiar?)

I ran your menu through Fitday and what surprised me were your ratios. They don't look that much different than the 50-55% fat, 5% carb, balance in protein that the Atkinscenter is recommending for Induction:

Calories: 1050
Fat: 57 grams
Carbs: 10 grams
Protein: 117 grams

Ratios: 50/4/46

Here's the link to my Fitday (keeping in mind I had to guess on a few quantities):

Thanks Kimmer..I appreaciate it!

So..do you think I need to go even lower in calories? I feel like I really am eating very little. You know my big eater mentality LOL

I seem to be eating less today..which makes sense...I work 10 hours sat and sunday..and am on my feet the whole time! I ate just enough to not feel dizzy. Didn't want o pass out on the floor!

so is it better to do a bit more cottage cheese and less meat?

I'm truly hopeing I can hit goal on time..but honestly..you know I'm not obsessive about loss..even if it's 2 lbs.a week..I'd still be in with my goal. I have 5 weeks as of today..and about 8 lbs to go..Ugg! Is that doable with only 8 lbs to go?? (mind you my "goal" is probably 20 above what the charts say..I mean come on..I;m still in a d cup for goodness sakes! LOLOL)??

Oh..and when I went back to Atkins befor..I simply added in small amounts of vegies for a few days..then a bit of fat..I did it slow so in about 2 weeks I was at my regular 20 induction carbs..seems about right eh?

No, please don't pass out on the floor, LOL! Generally speaking, that's bad for business!

I understand the "big eater" mentality. I had it all my life until Stillman's. My mom used to serve HUGE plates of food (2 hands or you'd drop it from the weight!) It wasn't until I went to a maternity home when I was pregnant at 15, and they served food by "portions" that I learned what a normal portion was. And I didn't like it one bit! One ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes? Yeah, right! I was used to mashed potatoes that covered half the plate! Meat servings were different too, I'm suprised I managed to gain 65 lbs (!) during my pregnancy!

If you want the full effect of Stillman's, which focuses on very low carbs and very low calories, I'd keep the cottage cheese where it is, reduce the beef, replace with more chicken if you need it.

Or, how about something more like "Still-kins" where you could add a small handful of mixed greens w/ LF dressing a couple times a day? 3 oz of chicken fanned over a salad looks like a lot.

Thanks Kimmer and Huni

I went out and got some fish today and started to add that in as my midday (lunch?) protein. So today I had

2 hard boiled eggs
1 very small hamburger patty
4 oz orange ruffy

Dinner will have to be beef as it's aleady defrosted

will make some chicken tomorrow.

Again..that's for the help..I actually felt better today..less food..so guess I just needed a few days to clean out the ol' system. Still miss my veggies though (LOL)

Hey Kimmer..for once I really am not trying to start a problem (LOLOL thought youd like the start of that one) but could you go into the other stillman's thread on this page. There is another Stillman's er that says it never talks about calorie limit on stillman's! I'm really not going to go get the book..but sure don't want to be wasteing my time.. maybe you could just post where in the book it is for her so I can figure out what the heck I should be doing (I hate being a newbie..I hate it!!)
