Not doing so well and need motivation to get back on track! Have had 2 anxiety-filled weeks that has taken my focus off of taking care of myself and eating right. I have had pasta, pizza & bread just to name a few. I don't think I've done too much damage at this point, but I will if I don't find a way to get back on track. Thanks for letting me vent.

Good morning Fellow Beachers!!

I am back from a weeklong business trip to Stuttgart, Germany. This was my 4th trip there in the last 14 months and every time I go, I am amazed at the lack of SB friendly meal choices. sigh.

I was able to do quite well at the hotel breakfast buffet (scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, fresh fruit, etc.) and I had a vegetarian soup and tossed salad every day for lunch in our office cafeteria. But the dinners were deadly.

I was escorting some customers from India, and they wanted to eat pizza, spaetzle, pretzels, etc. because those foods are not readily available there. Oh boy. Not to mention the junk I ate on the plane yesterday - when you are on a 9-hour flight, you basically eat what they put in front of you.

In any case, I am back in my groove this morning. I just had an omelet with tomatoes, red peppers, RF cheese and low fat chicken sausage. It felt great to be eating a healthy, home-cooked meal!

But, the bad news is I am still nursing this sprained ankle. I haven't run in 2 weeks.

Rose, I LOVE that March photo. Gosh, I want to be sitting there. This cold weather has got me down in the dumps.

N2LowCarb, don't beat yourself up...what's done is done. BUT do yourself a favor and get right back in your SB mode. That's what I am doing today...and I am going to have a very OP weekend. No messing around. You can do it too!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well!!! TGIF....

Wiz Thanks for the support! I realized later that I have gotten off track in the past for the same time period & eventually gotten back to eating properly. I have to remind myself that I am "choosing" to eat all of the carbs -- and I do have control over what I eat.

I am no good at dieting anymore! As a matter of fact I truly stink at losing weight. Why can't I lose like I used to?!?!?!

Recommiting

Hi all. I am a SB fan who loves this way of eating! However I do get lost once in a while.
I've just found my way back after getting waylaid by reading up on other diets. I was considering joining WW again after the umpteen time & realized I just needed to come back to the beach.I have about 15lbs left to lose but have been trying to lose them forever!
So here I am restarting tomorrow but rededicating myself tonite.
Here's a little bit about myself...
48yrs young ;-)
Happily married
2 beautiful sons- 12yr old & 6yr old
love to work out -spin class, muscle fitness class, running with all this working out you'd think I'd be sooo thin but it's all about the food really... but the working out is great for me mentally.

I've been an on & off lurker, posted once or twice before. I have to tell you all it is very motivating to read your posts. It has helped me numerous times to stay on program or find new recipes or just realize others struggle & it is quite normal.
So now I ask some advice. I have been on & off program a while with this week really having cravings & unfortunately giving in. Should I do 2 weeks of phase 1 or just a few days of phase 1 & then try phase 1.5 which I've never done ?

Thanks again all

Coming from a vet: Do the two weeks. It will reset your blood chemistry, stabilize your blood sugar, and get control of the cravings. to the group.

Rose- I just don't seem to be able to lose any weight. It is also so difficult to stick to any sort of plan for more than a couple weeks. Even when I stick to SB 100% I gain weight if I do not count calories. I tried weight watchers points but I gained 2 lbs in two weeks. ( The warm weather is coming to NJ and I want to be thinner! Oh well, I will just keep on trying.

Thanks I've started out well... I've got a veggie frittata in the oven for breakfast for the week & I've had my v-8 for the day. Will be doing some cooking today to have healthy foods available all week long.

Good morning all!!

I did my first brisk walking (4 miles) since spraining my ankle 2 weeks ago. I had a little tenderness, but I'm definitely on the mend. I really was hoping to start running again tomorrow, but I don't think I'm healed enough. It's a bummer.

Michele, Hi from another NJ girl! Some thoughts for you...I think the biggest danger on any eating plan to be in a rut. What do I mean by that? Eating the same foods day in and out. You get bored, you stray off plan and eat stuff you know you really do not want. I try to make a new recipe at least once every 2 weeks (this week's new one is a spinach, artichoke, sun-dried tomato and chicken casserole. If it is any good, I'll post it.) And I really try to rotate my existing repertoire of recipes. Another thing to consider, are you exercising? You can really lose inches by taking up exercise. The weather is finally getting nice around here, talk a brisk walk every day! Get on a bike. Whatever, but keep moving. Good luck to you!!

LIMomma, welcome!!

Tonight's dinner will be shrimp, tomatoes and RF feta cheese baked with fresh basil, oregano, garlic and parm cheese. Yum!!

Wiz- I do not exercise. I am going to try to walk and I will dust off my exercise bike and try and give it a whirl. I use alot of recipes but the SBD still confuses me after all these years and trust me I have read the books many times and even joined the SBD website twice. I'm not sure why it confuses me but it does. The phase one I'm fine. As soon as I start adding things back in I'm in trouble! I stare at cans of soup and get crazy. Like for instance I stared at tomato soup at Shoprite for like ten minutes wondering if it was ok because for some reason it said it had a ton of sugar in it when I could not find any ingredient containing sugar in the list! Then I picked up a can of reduced fat vegetable soup and it contained potato, carrots and peas so I put it back. I left the store with lentil soup and black bean soup but I wanted tomato or vegetable soup!! It is the stupid little stuff like this that gets me freakin nuts. I didn't feel like cooking homemade soup. I just wanted to buy a can of soup. lol I am driving myself nuts and just getting larger! I also can't just follow his diet layout guidelines and eat all the other stuff after phase one because I am short and I have to stay lower in calories or I do not lose any weight. Truthfully the only time I lose is when I follow phase one foods and pretty much starve. I also have to go easy on the fats like full fat salad dressing, olive oil etc... Trouble is I do not like vegies unless I add fat or cheese! So far I haven't been able to get it right.

Michele

Geez, Michele, I'd be starved if that was all I ate all day! You do realize chicken thighs are a no-no on Phase 1, not sure what phase you are doing.

And girlfriend, you need some exercise!! Get out and walk...

Yes, those store-made soups can be problematic. We do keep some in stock for emergencies, but you know the drill...making a big batch from scratch ensures all the ingredients are OP. I freeze some for later. But check out some of the Progresso Lite soups. Not perfect for SB, but not horrible either.

Hang in there!!

Wiz - I forgot thighs are a no no. This is what happens when you bounce around from plan to plan. I like SBD the best. I just wish I would actually lose some weight on it! I will keep on going though. Thanks!!

Hi all,

Just joining! My wedding dress just came in so my motivation is in overdrive! I've done SB before and really like it. My wedding is in June, and I'm hoping to drop at least 10 lbs (135 to at least 125..120 would be real nice! -I'm 5'3) by then. It always seems to be hard for me to drop more than a just few lbs and keep it there without fluctuating, but I tend to do better in the spring summer months than the winter. We'll see! I did my SB food shop yesterday and my first day is today. I'm always on the run in the morning so the breakfast prep is hard, but I made scrambled eggs today with light turkey breast lunch meat sprinkled in. I'm thinking I may have to prepare things the night before to not go crazy. With all the wedding prep already, I find that one challenge is keeping the prices down with the healthy foods...of course they are always more expensive. One question, how do you determine what sugars are bad? I have been straying from anything that has sugars in the nutrition facts and carbs that aren't dietary fiber, but sometimes I get confused...(for instance with fat free ricotta and cottage cheese- they are allowed in phase 1 but have about 5 grams of sugar...are those just natural lactose sugars and ok?) Sorry for the long first post!

LImomma: This is me -- except I have 25lbs left to lose that I have been trying to lose for 2 years. What do you think is keeping you from losing the 15? For me, it is not having my dieting buddy around anymore. She got a new job & when she left, so did my inspiration. I've been struggling ever since to just maintain what I lost.

I would love to find that kind of support again. I know that if I were truly inspired to do this, I could get the 25 pounds off by the end of summer.

Went grocery shopping this weekend & stocked up on my "go to" items. One positive thing that I have done in the past 6 months, is working out 5 days a week. I am getting muscles ...(underneath the fat)

If you eat from the food lists, you will be right on target. If there is no sugar in the ingredients, then it's fine. Naturally occurring sugar, such as lactose, will show in the carb profile. Even lettuce has "sugar". If you stick to the appropriate food lists, no worries. back to the Beach.

Michele, I could copy Wiz's posts to you word for word. Have you counted the calories in your menus? How many are you actually eating? From that bit of info, it looks way too low. Why don't you track for real for a few days and let's see where you really are. Calories and carbs, every bite. Protein grams, too. What are you drinking? There is a way to get a handle on this, but we are going to have to look at details.

Rose - I am tracking on ***********. I'm averaging between 1000-1200 calories a day. My fat seems kind of high for the day around 50% of those calories, but I think that is only because the calories are so low. My saturated fat is fine. I'm going to post my meals on here. You can give me a shout out if you see anything that looks off plan. I have not done any exercise at all, so I'm going to try and do something. I'm also starting right back in phase one, so hopefully the scale will budge! I drink coffee, seltzer, diet coke, water and red wine. No wine now though since I'm back to phase one. Truthfully as soon as I move to phase two things go downhill as far as weight loss even though I'm eating healthy.

Thank you!!
Michele

I'm thinking that your metabolism has tanked because of low calories for too long. You really should never go lower than 1200 calories--a day or two now and then won't hurt, but you sure don't want to damage your thyroid. Your base right now should be around 1500-1700, generally speaking. How many carbs are you eating? Do post for a few days, with the calorie and carb count and protein grams and let's have a look.

I can't remember, do you have the newer SB book? It has a good exercise program for starting out.

Rose - I have all the books. I have the supercharged workout video too. Haven't opened it though. I have never exercised so it is really tough to get started for me. Dr Oz's site put me at 1000 calories and Spark put me at 1200. I pretty much am around 1200.

Do you know the one minute muffin recipe?
1/4 cup flax meal
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 packet Splenda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1 tsp. butter

That would be SBD phase 1 friendly if I replace the butter with smart balance right? I'm trying to use my flax meal up and I make these all different ways, like without the sweetener or cinnamon but with garlic powder and oregano etc...

You and Wiz seem so good at this!!! I'm impressed.

We've been at it a long time. Oz is using the old calories in-calories out thinking which doesn't take into account what your body needs to keep hormones functioning. He should know better, being a Dr. and all.......... If you poke around on the thyroid thread, there is good info there. The Atkins protocol for repairing broken metabolisms puts people at not less than 1800, if I recall correctly. Use the exercise video that came with the book; it's really a good start. It starts out gently. Just do what you can.

I'm familiar with the flax muffin recipe. It's fine to make those if you enjoy them.

Hello SBeachers
FINALLY TODAY I made my first GOAL!!!! Next one is 250.YES I know that is still a ton of weight. But it beats 270.4 If I hadn't started SB I would have been 300 before I knew it!

I have been cooking some pretty tasty stff.

Had chicken in spelt flour (very good)added some poultry seasoning and sea salt and black ground pepper, poured a very small amount of Canola oil in skillet and smeared it around until the bottom of the skillet was coated got it hot and added the chicken.

Then one evening we hd 93% LEAN HAMBURGERS(on WW buns) WITH BAKED ONION RINGS.I sliced the onions thick rolled them in egg whites, and almond flour baked about ten min turning about half way through boy was that ever a treat.Every one here raved about that meal

Glad everyone is still here and doing good!

Berta - Those onion rings sound so good! I am going to try making them. They are phase 1 friedly right? I never heard of almond flour. Congrats on reaching one of your goals!

You know since I was a teenager I've tried every diet under the sun....I truly have. But since I've done SB & have strayed from it I always come back to it. I really feel healthy with this way of eating & even more important I like this way of eating. I think I still have these last 15lbs to go b/c I really like to eat.... alot! I need to work on my portion control b/c I can really really put it away! So now I'm portioning out big veggie portions & smaller portions of protein. This has worked for me in the past.I will also go slower with the carbs when I get to phase 2.
But I have to say I've been taking this muscle fitness course at my gym & it's a 10 week session. So at the beginning of the last session I measured myself & then measured myself again on the last day & I lost 4 inches. I know it doesn't sound like alot but I also have people coming up to me & saying they can really see a difference ! I am getting some buff muscles !

So I've been feeling pretty good about myself even got into a smaller pair of jeans! But then went on vacation & after I came back couldn't get back to eating right so here I am. I figure by reading these posts & writing about my journey, watch my portions & work out at the gym + my runs will keep me motivated to finally do it.

I am not so sure they are PH1 as I am PH1.5But almonds are PH1 so probably.
They really were good and it didn't take alot of oil either. You have to watch them close as they will burn. You could use WWflour also probably.I use WWWhite flour mostly or WWPastry flour. But I ususally count whatever I have it in as a starch. So these are not for everyday IMO.

Also the Almond Flour is VERY expensive so I use it sparingly. It cost 14.00 a 1lb bag here.It would be ALOT cheaper to buy almonds a grind them in a food processor.

Thanks for the congratu;atons. I should have had it all off by now but I got off track last year and just re started in Jan. ANd really have been trying hard.I have goofed a few times but mostly on plan since then.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!I just clicked on the blue words almond flour and it popped up and it sells for 8.99 on Netrition.Guess where I will be buying it form now on.OH that gripes me.It pays to shop around!!!But I guess with shipping of 4.95 it would be about the same.
