Thanks Wiz!
DD is now down w/ flu, you know when lying down on the kitchen floor seems like a good idea, it's pretty much a 100% sign that you have flu. DH & I got it w/ DS#1 like 5 wks ago, but I'm not feeling terrific now. Cooking homemade chicken soup as we speak, er, post. I'm going to leave out the corn, I can't believe the carbs in that stuff. |

Thanks, Wiz!
Hope everyone gets better soon. Practically everyone I know has the flu right now or has had it recently. I got mine over with last month. At this point I'm not sure I'm even going to get the H1N1 vaccine when it comes out. It's probably too late to do any good, and having been through the swine flu debacle of the 70's I'm a bit skeptical of anything the government rushes out the door like this. Take care everyone! |

Hello
![]() I hope everyone feels better soon. The only strain of flu that is going around is the swine flu. We had 500 kids out at my local high school last week. I think I got a bye. My boyfriend had it and I never got it. I did have a mild sore throat for a couple of days but that's it. I should a food processor delivered today! First thing I'm making is almond flax zuchini bread. I will post recipe if it turns out OK. |

Hope everyone will be feeling well soon. I work in a hospital and lots of people have been coming in with the flu. We have the vaccine here, but I'm a secretary and don't have contact with patients. We didn't get enough vaccine for all employees so don't know if I'll get one or not. My hands will be raw from washing them so much!
I'm so happy that our local Kroger's has started carrying some low carb products. I live in a very rural area so no Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. But Kroger has its own CarbMaster yogurt that is great. I just found low carb tortillas, some brown rice snaps (crackers) and Healthy Life low carb bread! I've probably spent $25 on crackers that have gone in the trash because they tasted awful, so I'm happy to have good crackers, tortillas and bread now! Also tried the soy Skinni Spaghetti from Netrition and liked it - it has the consistency of spaghetti and topped with sauce, it was very good. And I'm using the Carbquik once or twice a month. These products make SB so easy!!

Well, I did my weigh in when I got up today - no weight loss, but no gain, the scale didn't move a bit. I can totally live with that, particularly since this was a tough week (ended up several times in situations where I had no good options...sigh...I need to plan better this week).
So now I'm going to go get caught up on The Biggest Loser (while my mate is still sleeping) for inspiration, and make myself something good for me for breakfast. FWIW, the leftover donuts from when my mate had a jones the other day are still sitting in the kitchen, and I'm not even remotely tempted. Go me! Hope everybody feels better soon!

Hi y'all!
Yes, Jim, I think the vaccine is coming out way too late, that's why I've been letting everyone know how strong the flu is hitting here. Don't bother w/ the vaccine. Peeps, I keep skipping my afternoon snack to my detriment! Wiz, what's your afternoon snack? Dani? Everyone? Let's get some good ideas going! |

Good morning!
I stayed up a bit too late last night watching my Eagles on MNF. I couldn't stay up for the whole game, but I wanted to watch long enough to ensure they didn't blow their lead It's amazing to me how tired I always feel from this flu bug. ![]() I made stuffed red peppers for dinner last night and they were quite tasty! I roasted the peppers first with some balsamic vinegar, then stuffed them with ground turkey, onion, spinach, garlic, sun-dried tomato, romano and mozz cheese. I pre-cooked the turkey mixture, so all I had to do was heat up the peppers when we were ready to eat. Laurie, in terms of afternoon snacks, my standby is hummus and veggies. Costco has individual serving size hummus packs, which work well for me because it is instant portion control. But I also like some RF cheese in the afternoon. I'm with you, Jim, no vaccine for me. Why bother now that I've had the flu? So the only good thing about the flu is that I am finally back within striking distance of my goal weight. I can't believe I never got back there after my trip to London. Too many excuses and reasons not to buckle down. In any case, I'm 1.5 lbs away and have every intention of getting there. Hopefully this week.... Have a good day folks! Hope Rose is okay... ![]()

My boss has been out sick for 2 days and will be here today. She has sounded horrible on the phone and supposed to have gone to the Dr. yesterday. She'll be here hacking and spreading her germs. I don't want the flu! She is the Infection Control person and has had the H1N1 mist & vaccine for several weeks but has been very slow getting it out so don't know when or if I'll get the vaccine. She got the mist a week ago and now she's sick - hmmm. The phones are ringing off the hook asking about it and I'm sick of talking to people about it!!
My snacks are about the same as others: light string cheese Kroger's CarbMaster yogurt hummus with veggies EAS low carb protein shake turkey & lettuce rolls cashews Wiz, sorry you've been sick, but congrats on getting closer to your goal weight! ![]() I have to go to a funeral this evening for a friend who died. She was only 49 and found out about a month ago that she had cancer for the 5th time. She'd had too much radiation/chemo in the past and couldn't have more, but at least she is no longer in pain. She went on our annual girlfriend cruise at the end of May and was fine - had a great time. Everyone, enjoy your life, family & friends each day!! |

Oooh, so sorry about your g/f, Jo! We have this raging email group from high school, and a guy was just found who I swear I've known longer than any of 'em. It feels like a dream, remembering stuff from before age 7. We've been talking about a cruise, one gal moved to the BVI. Cool that you gals went.
DD is missing day #3 of school, and today is the Halloween Party! The other 4 of us had this 5-6 wks ago. Yesterday I kept it together, I think because I haven't exercised in 2 days now. Hopefully I'll follow Wiz back to my low. Dani, those sound like good ideas. Thanks!

Hello all!
Rose, hope you are on the road to recovery. I tried to exercise on my treadmill this morning and it was a disaster. All it did was make me cough even more than I have been doing...I guess I still have to take it easy. But for a dedicated exerciser, that is not an easy thing to do. After visiting my MiL at the hospital, we decided on going out for a light dinner. It was my first time out anywhere since getting sick last week. I really enjoyed that glass of wine I had, slept like a baby last night. ![]() Jo, I did go back to work after 2 days of being sick, but I work at my house! I was working in my PJs in my bedroom for heavens sake. No way could I have driven in my car, or spent any time in front of people. I'm still leery of being around people in case I have a coughing fit. Tell your boss to stay home! Talk to you all later... |

No weight loss this week...stayed exactly the same. I'm having surgery Monday and will be non-weight bearing with a cast on for over 2 weeks so I won't be able to weigh in. it will be interesting to see what happens. All me food for the 2+weeks has been pre-prepared so I'm thinking that since I'll be strictly on-plan I'll still lose.
Wiz...its tough working out when you don't feel 100%. I give you big credit for trying. My snacks are: String Cheese Celery sticks with laughing cow cheese I just started eating apples(phase 2) I just picked up some Mary's Gone Crackers Sticks and Twigs...very good but I just eat a few... http://www.marysgonecrackers.com/ns/products.php#sticks

VeeBee - I stayed the same this week too. Don't get discouraged! And I'm sure if you're making good food choices you'll do fine. Hope the surgery goes well and you're up-n-at'em in no time.

Wiz, good for you for trying to exercise, but it's hard when you're sick. Hope you're better soon & everyone else who is sick right now.
The boss is back, coughing and hacking all over everyone. She says she had upper respiratory infection. She's on antibiotics and still spreading germs. All but 2 in my department are sick now or just getting over being sick. I'm washing everything down every day and hands are raw from washing them. I am getting the H1N1 shot today so hopefully I will avoid the sickness! Just finished up my 6-month anniversary of joining the gym and kicking the exercise into high gear, averaging 6-7 hours a week. So it was time to measure again. In 6 months, I lost 12 pounds and 18 INCHES! I'm so glad I took measurements when I joined the gym. I've noticed a huge difference in my body even though I haven't lost much weight. It's great motivation to keep up the exercise. |

Hello gang!
I got in an awesome 5-mile run this morning. Finally, I felt well enough to really push through it. Yes, I am back!! ![]() The scale has been pretty okay lately, still not quite back to my original goal weight. But much better than it has been... This is a quick check-in, I'm off to visit my MiL in the hospital. She is doing well with her rehab, but she has a long way to go. No movement in her right hand at all yet. Her right arm and leg have some small range of motion, and it keeps improving every day. Have a great OP weekend, folks. I don't know about you guys, but I am desperately trying to pretend that all the Halloween candy I bought does not exist ![]() |

Jo - that's awesome!! Good for you!! I'm really waffling about the gym - I got the membership when I was doing the half-marathon training back in 2002/2003, and I haven't gone in at least 2 years...and there aren't any close enough not to involve a 30 minute drive. And I'm just not nearly as ready to be away from home as I was back then - then the gym was my safe-space, my mental health break. Now, Home is where I want to be...so I'm trying to think of ways not to have to leave the house to get exercise in. We're talking about getting me a treadmill (the kind that folds up so it won't take up TOO much room - it's not a huge apartment), which I think would really help going into the cold time of the year. I have an exercise ball, but haven't been using it. I think the big key is getting my butt out of bed before my mate (no easy feat - I'd SO much rather cuddle), so I can get *something* done. *sigh* The eating is going well, but I know the exercise is sorely lacking.
Wiz - glad you're feeling better!! Rose! - does this mean you're on the mend? It's been an extremely weird week here (off Tuesday night to see Leonard Cohen, slept 13 hours then worked Wednesday night, off Thursday night so we went out dancing, off yesterday and took my kids to see Rent, today I have to to go work for the time change and I'm up early... I have NO idea how this is going to affect the scale this week. But I've been doing my best to make good choices, so here's hoping. Hope everyone else is having a great weekend! Happy Samhain/Halloween! |
