OK After Living on atkins for the last 6 week and not losing...... (Hypothyroid)

So the last 6 weeks I have spent eating on the Atkins plan and not losing ANYTHING...... I decided after doing a little research on the boards to now see if SB can help..... I was diagnosed as Hypothyroid (Hi Pam ) on August 18 and started med's August 22nd..... The only good thing is I didn't gain any weight. I lived on the beach about 4 1/2 yr ago did well and then Hurricane Charley struck here and everything went out the window. Are there any changes? I know there is a new recipe book - but is there a new guide? I am heading to the Library today to refresh myself back to Phase 1. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

Hiya Kim and welcome to South Beach.
There is also a Phase I foodlist right here on the forum that you can use as a guide:

PHASE 1 FOOD LIST AND SAMPLE MENU

Be sure to post in the weekly check-in thread as well for lots of good advice.

There is a new, updated book ( Southbeach Supercharged) with some new science and a few refinements, and an exercise section, but the basics are the same. The newer book is out in paperback now, so you might look for that if you want the newer book. You should get back into the swing of things fairly quickly.

Jim pointed out the stickies, which are helpful to get started.

Hi Kim, I am also Hypo. I had cancer and 1/2 my Thyroid removed in March. June I started on Synthroid. I am having success on SB, its slow but its success. (see stats)
Keep in mind a Hypos best exercise is core/strength training not Cardio. (So I've been told) I am real bad about exercise, but eating right has had it's benefits. Come join us on the thread, great support here.

Hello Everyone,

I've been looking over the board and wondering the same thing. I too have hypothyroid, actually Hashimoto's and am scheduled for surgery in a few months due to risk of cancer (in family history). I'll be removing all of the thyroid and want to get in better shape before this, as I've also heard weight gain stories. I've been on LFL for a while and stuck...my body is resisting ketosis. Anyone else have this problem?

I guess I'm looking for some positive and encouraging stats on this plan before I dive in. Thanks in advance.

You need to go see nonstickpam107 in the thyroid thread. She knows all about Hashimoto's . One thing is to be sure that your calories and carbs don't drop too low. You don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight and going too low on carbs is actually harmful. I don't have any experience with having it removed, but she might have knowledge. I do know that SB and thryoid issues are a good match. Best wishes to you.

I had Thyroid cancer 2 years ago and had my entire thyroid gland removed. I am on thyroid pills and am happy to say that I am losing just fine.

Just make sure that no matter what your thyroid situation is, that you have your TSH checked every 6 mo. and that it is in a good range (0.5-2.0 is great)

Good luck!
