Hi, I am still around, just have been too tired to post. Finished radiation a couple of days ago--yay! I have been on plan the past two days, trying to get this stress weight back off. I'll get back with y'all tomorrow--glad to see you doing well! Serena

Both. They don't make you sleepy and there is no rebound effect. As a sleep aid, you take one more than the stress dose. They just help your brain to turn off at night, but don't make you groggy. I just looked at the bottle and they are tan now. Maybe it is the plain Calms that are green. Something else that is very calming when you are overwrought is Rescue Remedy which is part of the Bach Flower Remedy line.

Mjmama - We're moving to Cockeysville, whichever county that's in. XD
I don't know anything about MD, guess it's time to start learning!

Serena - Best of luck with your treatment, though we don't know each other, you'll be in my thoughts.

I had a concern to address with all of the experts here. When I started phase 1, by the end of it I had lost between 10-15 lbs. While I've lost about 3 pants sizes since starting, I haven't seen any more pound loss and neither has my Husband. 0__0
We're really perplexed here and a little down about it. We've been %100 OP, drink lots of water and work-out between 3-6 times a week depending on our schedules. Our work-outs involve 30 mins of solid cardio and about the same on our weight program (we alternate upper and lower body).
I guess I'm just a little miffed that after completely changing my lifestyle, I'm not seeing those numbers go down.
Anyone else seem to have this issue? Is it possible that all pounds lost were just fat? I can't explain the gap between how we physically look and how much we weigh. Oh wise veteran SBers, please let me know! lol

Yes, yes, Luisa and Rose, I believe that's what we have. We call them baby drops.

Yes, Luisa, nondrowsy.

I'll also note that I've read many times that valerian root, NOT VALIUM, valerian root is actually beneficial to the nervous system. I do NOT, however, take it often, but I have an emergency bottle in my car for work days that go ka-boom. I think I've availed myself of it 2x in several years.

I also have drunk that Celestial Seasonings tea, Tension Tamer Extra. Here's a good one: long ago, DH and I were in one of those funks-oi vey we were young and couldn't act right. (We were facing a mandatory vacation with in-laws.) I said, that's it, we're BOTH taking kava kava. After a week we were positively giddy, we were so happy, and now I have little DS#2! They say kava kava can be bad for your liver, but I can't *believe* how happy it makes you feel. I don't take it, tho, 'cuz of the warnings.

PS the BEST way to feel good is exercise!!!! All the side effects are good for you!!!

Whoa! I didn't read all the messages!! Glad to see you, Serena, dear!

Pixel Pusher, don't you DARE lose your mind about this!! 3 pants sizes is mega! Kajunga! Spend your time looking in the mirror and don't get on the scale, unless you've got a bodyfat % scale. For years and years, I wouldn't step on the scale, I'd only measure my broadest point. Scale, bah! Seen the cartoon in which 2 little girls are looking at a scale, and one's telling the other, "don't step on that, it makes you cry"?

PS Pixel Pusher, I grew up in VA, right next door to Maryland, and it is bee-yoo-tiful there.

Pixel Pusher,

Cockeysville is in Baltimore County (just FYI . It's a nice area. I grew up in Towson, which is nearby. Now, I live in Harford county, about 45 min. from where you'll be. Good luck with the move and to MD.

That's a FABULOUS weight loss for phase 1! Mine is definitely less than that (tomorrow is my weigh in at the end of phase 1.)

Keep up the great work!

Everybody else: hi! Hope you're doing well. It's been a tougher week for me. NOt looking forward to the scale tomorrow. I haven't been able to exercise since last friday.

Laurie, I also take Valerian root from time to time when I am a little down and/or stessed. It also helps with sleeping...I get insomniac sometimes. Valerian root is what the Pied Piper used to lure the cats...so be aware anyone interested in it that your cat will go crazy when you open the bottle. My cat Lily runs to see me when I open it up.

Serena- So glad to see you!

Good morning!!

Just finished up a 7-mile run and feel great. (Well, my knees are a bit creaky, but what else is new?? )

In terms of stress-reducing drinks, I used to have Diet Coke. But now that Dani has banned it from my house, I have to drink wine instead!! In all seriousness, I tend to get some fresh air and exercise when I feel stressed out. That always seems to work for me, even if it just 15 minutes around the block. And I see that Laurie recommends that as well! Great minds think alike

Serena, SO good to hear from you. We miss you and hope you feel better soon. Lots of hugs.

I'm trying to get out of work early today (hair appt - cut and color!!), so I've gotta get cracking. See you all later!!

Hi, Pixel! Seems like you are probably gaining muscle weight with your workouts... do you measure? Perhaps you would see results in the lost inches rather than pounds. WAY TO GO on the pant sizes!!

I am still OP, although I am going to my brother's house for BBQ ribs tonight, and I am sure that he will probably be using a sauce that has a high sugar content... I'm trying to psyche myself up to have lots of SB friendly side dishes.

Have a great day!

WOO-HOO Laurie!

I stayed the same this last week, but considering what my body has been through, I'll take it!

Did I tell you guys that DH & I signed up to do a 5K walk/run at Walt Disney World in January? Well, we did. We are Disney fanatics (I am more than DH), and I figured what a better way to do our first ever 5K than at Walt Disney World! You actually run inside one of the parks (before park hours)...this 2010's park hasn't been determined yet, but last year it was Animal Kingdom. DH & I have NEVER been runners, but we thought that it would be a great incentive if we just jumped right in and signed up. We're going to start doing the Couch-2-5K program. That same weekend is also a marathon and some other challenge thingy...but we'll stick to the 5K for now.

I am so excited for this weekend...I have absolutely no plans. I love not having an agenda!

Have a great Friday everyone!

I hear ya on the BBQ! BBQ has got to be one of my top 5 weaknesses. I'd love to hear about how it goes for you. Good luck!

Kim, I posted a sample menu on this thread. Try looking at page 1 or 2, I think. I gave the specifics of what I'm trying. It's definitely SBish, just not what I had been eating.

Twyla has a dynamite journal on this board, I think she calls it Watch-me-shrink. I love these journals people keep, you can read their whole journey. Do you know how to navigate around the main page?? Tons of info!

Yes, I know how to get around ... in fact, I "get around" too much!

Thanks for the info -- I was looking for the name (watch-me) as when I did a search I got a ba-jillion hits.

Your body is not a machine and you will not lose a certain amount of weight in a certain time. It just doesn't work like that. Don't let your life be ruled by the scale. You've lost three pants sizes! What difference does it make what the scale says. Would you rather weigh, say 130, and be a size 10 or weigh 130 and be a size 4? See what I'm saying?

You could post menus and let us take a look to see if we see anything there.

Let me say that it takes a long, and I mean loooooong time to add a pound of muscle, so probably what is happening with your exercise is water retention. Especially if you are new to your program. Just stick with your food plan and continue your exercise, enjoy your healthy way of life and everything will come out great in the end.

Thanks for the opinions all, it's much appreciated. We made the mistake of not measuring ourselves before we started the whole thing, lesson learned. I will be getting my bridesmaids dress that was ordered 3 months ago soon, so that should be a good measure.
I should have known, 8 years ago when I was a size 11(the smallest size I ever was, back when I was an athlete and lifeguard), I still weighed 160 lbs or so, but I was happy with the way I looked and felt. We're both pretty strong/muscular people, even during our downtime's, we both have quite a bit of muscle mass, even in top shape no one would have looked at us and called us "skinny". We're, uh, of a hearty stock I suppose. lol.

It's 5PM here, today we've eaten:
2 scrambled eggs with spinach and slice of LF cheese.
Frozen veggie mix(beans, broccoli, cauliflower) with 1 cup of NF cottage cheese.
Post-workout snack: tuna, grated egg, spinach and cucumber mixed together with one tblspn of light mayo on a slice of whole grain bread.
2 cups of coffee with splenda and splash of LF Milk
2 Liters of water, thus far.

Exercise:
Ran 3 miles. Will probably go back tonight to lift weights.

I think I've been eating/drinking/exercising right *shrug*.

Soozay - That sounds like the best marathon EVER! We're HUGE Disney freaks, we went to the World 2 Christmases ago and had the best time of our lives. We've lived 15 mins from Disneyland for the past year and had annual passes, visited every Sunday. Good Luck!

Lin and Mj - Thanks for the Maryland info! It definitely looked really nice for the couple of days I was there. I grew-up in Kentucky, the scenery kind of reminded me of that.

Rose, Mrs, Lin, Mj - Thanks for all the kind words and motivation and thanks to the senior members for putting things in perspective.

I solemnly swear that I will NOT weigh myself for at least another 6 months(if ever)!!

Thanks all, have a great day and weekend. <3.

Pixel_Pusher, I don't see any thing about your menu that I would change. It looks fine. Some people don't weigh at all, just go by how their clothes fit. If you are happy with the way you look and feel, then that's all that matters.

Goodness, Rose--what happened with Walmart?

Thanks, everyone, for your love and support. It has not been an easy time, but I got through it and met some lovely women who were going through the same thing, so I didn't feel so isolated. It will take me a month or two to get my energy back.

You all are doing so great; you're an inspiration! I'm trying to get in lots more vegetables and eat healthy, not to worry too much about how fast weight comes off. It just feels good now to be getting my eating back under control. After just a few days of eating healthfully, I wonder how I could have been eating so many sugary things--they seem so yucky now! Here's today's menu:

B - steamed spinach, small lean sausage patty, egg
L - minestrone soup, baked eggplant w/tomatoes, mushrooms, mozzarella
D - portabello mushrooms w/salsa and goat cheese, cole slaw
S - almonds, strawberries

KUTGW, everyone! Serena

Good morning everyone! I’m just checking in. I haven’t been on here in a while as I’ve been busy planning a large BBQ for 100 people tonight. We’re having our wrap-up year end social for Girl Guide families tonight at the beach. I’ve been staying on plan and seem to be keeping on the 1-2 lb loss per week.

Rose – I’m with you. I like storms! I live in Vancouver and we have to be used to rain here Even tomorrow is calling for showers and I have the ropes and tarps packed just in case! And EEEEEK… what happened at Walmart?

Serena – glad to “see” you! I hope you are feeling much better soon and what good news that the radiation is finally finished!

Pixel – I’m by NO means an expert here at all and I need advice all the time, but I can say that when I finished phase one (after losing 14 lbs) I became rather discouraged when I didn’t lose anything for a few weeks after. I’m now steadily going down a little bit, but I am really noticing a difference in my clothes and I’m thrilled about it. I’m trying to step on that scale a lot less and just concentrate on how great I’m feeling since I’ve been eating healthy. I’ve really noticed a difference in my energy, fitness level and even my flexibility (funny sounding I know, but a must when crawling around on the floor after two toddlers!). It sounds like you are doing fantastic and to lose 3 pant sizes is amazing! And how cool that you live in CA near Disneyland! We are going there in “14 sleeps”. We’re getting very excited. I’m a little nervous that we are going at one of the busiest times of the year though. Let me know if you have any good tips for me!

MJmama – you are doing great!

Wiz – question for you… when you first started exercising, did you work up slowly to the amazing runs you take on now? I really aspire to one day being able to take a long “run”. I’m excited when I get out for a 2.5 mile WALK! If you don’t mind me asking… how long did it take to get where you are now? You are such an inspiration!

Susie – your Disney run sounds like a blast! Good luck!

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks all! No more weighing for me. :P

Melody- No way! We're doing a family vacation with my mom, step-dad, little sister(she's 5, we're 22 years apart, menopause surprise! XD) and my grandma the 30th-2nd! I have tooons of tips, but as I'm about to go to bed, here's some easy ones.

-When you enter the park, go left instead of right. More people are right-handed and therefore, tend to want to go right.

-If it's anyone's first visit or birthday, stop by town hall(on the left after going under the train overpass) to get a button so everyone wishes you an extra special time.

-If you can, get your little girl(s) a princess dress of their choice (I got my sis a cinderella one at Wal-Mart for $20), they'll get EXTRA special attention from everyone and the princesses will curtsey to them and call them "Princess".

-If you want to do any character dining, book it now, it fills up fast.

-Take LOTS of breaks and drink LOTS of water(bring in a few bottles of your own

I have tons more, lol. Have a great time!

Oh and Rose, Wal-Mart and Costco ALWAYS enrage me!
