Thanks again for all of your concern about my health. I really am feeling much better today. Spent a half-day at work. Really had to go in...my last day of work is Friday and I would have been so behind with all the end of the year business if I had stayed out completely again today. My weight is down several pounds from signature but I think it is due to the fact that I ate so infrequently over the weekend with the fever so I'm hesitant to change it just yet. I slept so much over the weekend and I didn't really have an appetite. Going to weigh-in on Friday to see where I really am.

Lisa- We have quite a few posters here who take a lot from SB but also Atkins and Carb Rotations. Rich doesn't post in this thread that regularly but he is one of them. Laurie is also a good example. The carb rotations concept intrigues me personally since I notice that I have been eating more carbs since ramping up my exercise and yet I'm still losing at this stage in the game. I say do what works for you!

Lisa, I don't know Atkins except I understand it's more high fat. I think what I've been doing is SBish. I'm just adding things up a different way, counting grams, when the book doesn't say that.http://images.lowcarbfriends.com/lcf...lies/smile.gif

Hi Lisa,

I started on Atkins, couldn't stay on low carb without feeling deprived and low energy. I took a lot from South Beach. I was taught how to eat healthy carbs, variety. As I began losing weight, I also begin to workout quite a bit.

I found that counting carbs, protein and fat helped me. Knowing my macro nutrients day to day. I currently do Carb rotations. Typically Low days and medium days. Low carb days are when I do cardio, eat less calories and burn fat. Medium carb days are when I feed my body carbs for energy to weightlift and replenish.

when you are really into it, it is very strategic and precise. I myself am new to carb rotations but am doing very well with it. I think that south beach in itself is a great plan. I just had a hard time limiting my carbs without counting.

Just as important is exercise. ( I have not read all of your posts, If you are not an avid exerciser, I would try south beach for a while and see how it goes.

I don't know if this helps you.

Thanks! Pretty proud - and honestly, wouldn't have done it with out SB! Truly, I feel better about myself and have stepped out of the box with alot of the things I have done the last couple of years since I have been eating the SB way!!

And I also was going to say - you DO NOT look like Deputy Dawg! I have seen pics of you and you are one handsome dude!!!!

Just for accountability - I am refocusing this week! I may be popping in more than usual. With being sick since before Memorial Day - I am finally back to feeling good. During that time - I wasn't far off plan, but not the structure of eating I am used to or want to be at......veggies were just not appealing. Just like with anything - there are peaks and valleys with your way of eating, and I was in a valley and am crawling out!!!!

The best thing about SB is; it's STILL the most doable, healthy way of eating for life, and I am back at it!
Refocusing right along with you. I've been sick for going on three stinking weeks, just not posting about it, still feel like crap, and am beyond crabby. It's like the whole world is out to get on my last nerve at work. Food has been ok, but I haven't put any thought into it. Except for today which was really, really awful. I think I'll post menus for a few days to make me think about it.

Lisa, how about posting several days of your menus and let's take a look. I'm not sure what you are doing. Are you trying to bounce back and forth between SB and Atkins or trying to decide which to do. My brain is fuzzy, so bear with me.

Also, take a look at what you have done so far--lost almost 100 lbs. There are going to be some readjustment periods. You are never, never going to lose x pounds per week consistently for ever and ever. Again, it will be helpful to see exactly what you are eating in order to give advice.

Another quick check-in, I've been soooo busy, I'm sorry I don't have time to make such a nice post like the others here. So many of you are so kind and attentive to address everyone individually, all of you guys rock. One day I hope I'm in a position to do the same.

Well, after being unemployed since Feb, I have gotten myself a new job! Unfortunately I have to move across the country from CA to MD to have it, so that's been dominating my world.

Other than that, still OP, exercising and drinking water. I feel sooo much better than I have in years. However, pure weight-wise, I've only lost maybe 15 lbs, my husband is in a similar state. BUT I've lost almost 3 pants sizes and he's wearing shirts that he's not been able to wear before because they were too small.

So, I've decided that between the cardio, the weight training and our body types that we must be losing mostly body fat(which weighs less than muscle) and retaining our muscle mass. That's my only explanation for a smaller weight loss with a big loss of inches. Anyone else have this revelation? Just thought I would share for anyone else who's having the same issue.

Cheers all! Keep on, keepin' on. <3

Good Morning,
Hi all..
heading to a off site meeting in a bit! Filling up my water jug - trying to ditch plastic bottled water this week. I cannot drink out of those nalgene bottles - they drip everywhere. Was looking for a cheap water bottle w/ a bendy straw all weekend..harder than you think to find when you want one.

Pixel, keep up the great work! 15 lbs is a lot!

Rose hope you feel better today!

This is what I ate yesterday.. it was my daughter's birthday and there we lots of treats to be had, but I stuck with fruit.

B- cottage cheese
L- Chinese stir fry and fruit salad
s- more fruit salad (instead of cake and ice cream)
D- 2 slices of cheese and 1 leaf of lettuce with chicken salad (not much of a dinner, but I was running out the door)
s- pkg of true north almond clusters- 11 net carbs, 8 grams of sugar (not sure if this was a good choice, but I was out of the house and hungry, this was all I had on me)

Wow, what a sweet, supportive group. Thank you very much for all your kind words. I do
believe i will go back to Atkins but chose the leaner proteins. I analized my food journal yesterday and although what I eat on SB is alot of veggies, i think the carb count maybe too high for what my personal rate is and thats why I don't lose on SB, I somehow am more accountable when having to COUNT my carbs which is only done on Atkins... So call it a modified Atkins maybe? lol! I stay at home w/my 2 kids, a 1 yr old son and a 6 1/2 yr old daughter for the summer so its pretty hectic, but i do enjoy a workout of pilates, Jillian michaels, yoga or resistance/weights that i can do at home while the baby naps...

a sample of SB menu for me on Saturday is this:

B: coffee w/2 tbsp of sf creamer
1 whole egg, 1 egg white w/a pinch of rf cheese, 2 turkey bacon and 4oz V8

L: whole cucumber w/ground turkey
S: 15 almonds, string cheese lf, 2 stalks celery
D: pork chop - thin - w/1 medium tomato and 1/4 cup of ricotta w/vanilla and 1 splenda packet

water: - 128 oz

thats very typical of a menu, sometimes cucumber other times spinich as a salad..i did that for 6 days w/no weight loss so i believe im going to try atkins OWL and take a little sb w/me lol!

thank yall for your support, great team here!!! And i hope the 3 that aren't feeling well are feeling a little better as well

Laurie - I can not believe that you would mention a cauliflower pizza crust recipe and not give us the recipe or a link! You stinker. Please share.

Dani - glad to hear you're feeling better. I posted a really long winded journal entry today so that you'll know how I'm doing.

to all the newbies I've missed.

Breakfast today... 1/2 cup lf cottage cheese, 1 cup skim milk, 1 pear, coffee with sweetner.

For those of you that don't get the free SB emails, this was sent today and sounds YUMMY!

Buffalo Chicken Bites (Phase 1)

Description
What would a good baseball game be without the familiar taste of the devilishly spicy chicken that hails from Upstate New York?

Serves 8 (3-skewer)

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
3 tablespoons trans-fat-free margarine
2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce, or more to taste
1 teaspoon canola oil
3 (6-ounce) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 24 (1") cubes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 celery stalks, cut into 24 (1") pieces

Instructions
Melt margarine in a medium nonstick saucepan. Whisk in pepper sauce and cook for 1–2 minutes, or until slightly thickened; set aside.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper, add to pan, and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 6 minutes. Add margarine mixture to pan and gently toss chicken until well coated, 1–2 minutes.

Remove chicken from pan and skewer each cube with a toothpick. Skewer 1 piece of celery at the base of each. Arrange on a platter and serve with South Beach Diet-approved blue-cheese dipping sauce.

Nutritional information:
Per 3-skewer serving with 1 tablespoon dip:
150 calories
9 g fat (2.5 g sat)
1 g carbohydrate

Morning - Back to the books for me today. I feel good, which is a nice change.
Some reason I have been craving turkey chili so I may need to break and go to town to get the ingredients.

B - egg, thin bread, cheese, 2 turkey bacon, coffee

L - l/o roast, mushrooms, maybe some peppers

D - taco salad

I am getting bored with food, I need to step it up a bit. I also need to increase my water. I have noticed feeling hungry a lot and then realized I hadn't drank much.
That will change today.

That recipe is similar to what I had last night. The family loved this:

Buffalo Chicken Main Course

8 Boneless, skinless Chicken breasts (or use thighs, or both)
1 Tbs. Vegetable oil
3 OZ LF Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 C. Lite Ranch Dressing
1/4 C. Frank's Hot Sauce
1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/2 C. RF shredded cheddar cheese

Season chicken with Seasoned Salt, or salt & pepper. Sautee in oil til browned. Place in greased 13 X 9 Baking dish.
Beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer til very smooth, then beat in Ranch Dressing and Hot sauce. (This is the only way to avoid small lumps of cream cheese) Stir in shredded cheese, and spread over chicken in baking dish. Bake at 350 for approx. 20-25 minutes. (I turned on my broiler for a few minutes to get the top

Luisa, my love, thank you so much for sharing that. I am definitely going to be making that this weekend as I have been craving pizza.

I am amazed at the buffalo chicken recipes today...especially in light of the fact that I just started marinating some chicken for "Buffalo Chicken Salad". I got the recipe off of "Cook Yourself Thin". (watched the episode yesterday and they have all their recipes online.) Great minds think alike. The cook yourself thin recipe is Phase 2 friendly. It could be phase 1 friendly if you leave off the whole wheat bread crumbs and just cook the chicken without it. Here's the link:

mmmm....
I love Buffalo Wings. Can't you get them unfried at some places? I know the sauce has a lot of butter..I tried to make at home once - terrible. I won't even say where we sometimes order them from but it rhymes with shmooters.

IN other news, yoga was awesome despite the Missouri heat index that was out of control. People were lookin' a little sick in class, so teacher turned the heat down. It was fab and I got a new water bottle. Yea me.

Dinner is going to be steak, spinach salad (leftover from last night)....
Ciao!

Back again...

Lunch - salmon and veggie curry
Snack - pecans
Dinner - buffalo chicken salad
Dsrt - light peach crisp

The peach crisp also from the Cook yourself thin show...I subbed splenda for the sugar to make it a bit more SB friendly, but went ahead and used honey. I made this for myself and my friends that are starting to watch what they eat along with me.

I got in my hour plus of exercise again today.

L- Salad (mostly spinach w/ lettuce from the garden) w/ blackened chicken, black beans and homemade ranch dressing, fruit salad
s-cottage cheese
D-BBQ chicken, green beans and asparagus
s- frozen blueberries

Something really weird happened tonight.... My right knee has been absolutely killing me and I've hardly been able to walk for about three weeks. I was laying down and my 2 yr old stood directly on my knee, It hurt really bad but since then I've had no pain. I've even been up and down stairs a few times. I'm wondering if my knee was dislocated or something and when she stood on it, it popped back into place. Is that possible??
