As for losing "just" a pound so far, as I found, when switching from one lo carb plan to another, the initial drop may not be as dramatic as going from doing nothing to low carb. This group is full of wonderful, knowledgeable people so welcome and enjoy. ![]() |

OMG, so many of us, I apologize to everyone I miss.
Lisa, you might want to check out the weight loss journal about carb cycling that I recommended to MJMama. It's interesting to see what has happened with her over a year of success. I'm a believer in mixing things up. Go Stella! Are you not posting your veggies? Dani, so glad you're on the mend! I swear DS#1 had swine flu, he was in bed for 3 days. Then he got the respiratory thing. I stuck to the WOE I posted earlier, except I went ahead and had 1/3c pinto beans with the fam. I also went for the 2nd c. of coffee. We'll see where that coffee situation goes. Yerba mate tea is supposed to be nourishing and invigorating, but it tastes yuck.

Morning!
![]() Awe shucks Jim! Thanks! Pretty proud - and honestly, wouldn't have done it with out SB! Truly, I feel better about myself and have stepped out of the box with alot of the things I have done the last couple of years since I have been eating the SB way!! And I also was going to say - you DO NOT look like Deputy Dawg! I have seen pics of you and you are one handsome dude!!!! Just for accountability - I am refocusing this week! I may be popping in more than usual. With being sick since before Memorial Day - I am finally back to feeling good. During that time - I wasn't far off plan, but not the structure of eating I am used to or want to be at......veggies were just not appealing. Just like with anything - there are peaks and valleys with your way of eating, and I was in a valley and am crawling out!!!! ![]() The best thing about SB is; it's STILL the most doable, healthy way of eating for life, and I am back at it!

Cindy your another I have followed posts of , very inspiring! and Laurie, i will take a look at the cycling thing..i was always afraid of it in the past when doing atkins because if i ate even too much of 'allowed' food I would be up and it would take me a week to lose it... Day 6, still no budge on the scale other than that one pound on my first day of induction ;(

The thing about the carb cycling journal is that gal has gone thru a lot of plateaus and managed to keep losing.
I cannot BELIEVE the recipe I just found for cauliflower pizza crust! There's also cauliflower lasagna. |

Good Morning,
Another early morning yoga class and it was GREAT. Except, I have some nausea so I had some cheerios to chill out my stomach a bit. I feel much better. Any tips on what to eat when you think you're gonna hurl? If I would have had whole grain oats, I would have made those! I get nauseous in yoga when I have not been eating in balance - and although I have been eating balanced yesterday, it does not make up for weekend funky foods. Heading into work...coffee in hand. I better get used to this early am work out - I get kind of sleepy later in the day |

You know, plateaus, DON'T GIVE UP! I think it's taken me about a year to lose 15 pounds, and I bounce around above that. I'd like to lose about 6 more. Never thought I'd lose 2.5" off my blobby upper thighs, tho, yahoo!
What is different for me about the cycling is I was almost always hitting the same figures on my "macronutrients," 33/33/33% carbs/fats/protein. Yesterday I ate 20/40/40 carbs/fats/protein. I think it's closer to an early P2 in SB. I had 1/4c all bran, 1/3c pinto beans, and the rest of my carbs were from spinach, salsa, etc. I am planning to try this for 3 days in a row, since I ate so many carbs over the weekend. Go, go, go Stella! You might have to take a nap after work, tho. I get up at 5 on workdays, and am usually lights out at 8:30. Sleep deprivation stalls fat loss, so fit sleep in! |

Well I did not eat any popcorn at the movies yesterday! I brounght my own bottle water so I did'nt have to pay $3 for theirs. My son settled for some Sour Gummie worms LOL.
The movie was really cute in 3D (Up) My Sciatica is finally better Enough so that when we went grocery shopping yesterday I purposely parked far away to get some extra walking in.I will add some walking this week since I no longer hurt. I have a lot of book work to do so no play time for me today. B - egg, toast, turkey bacon (2), coffee L - salad and leftover steak D - chicken, broccoli Nothing too exciting.

Laurie, have you had personal success on cycling? It seems like its maybe 2 days of atkins induction low carb, then maybe SB P1 for 2 days then maybe SB P3 for 2 days? is that about right? i had a more 'fatty' breakfast today of 2 whole eggs instead of my whites w/a piece of colby jack cheese and ground turkey so i could maybe try it starting today..im not a huge grains fan so I think i would up my carbs w/fruit or beans, salsa, etc.. ?

Hi, All!
Yesterday, I made some breakfast quiche and thought I was doing really well... I made it with "fat free half-n-half" (isn't that an oxymoron? ) low fat swiss, and turkey bacon...I was originally very concerned about the half-n-half because one of the prime ingredients in it is corn syrup! (not high fructose corn syrup, but STILL!) Then I pulled out my book and noticed that ff half-n-half isn't on the list of approved foods!! I calculated that even with the 3 carbs-per-two-tablespoons of half-n-half, a slice of quiche is still only about 6 carbs. I'm just curious how concerned some of you are with the whole carb-count vs. fat gram thing... do you count carbs at all, or is that a concern? Do South Beachers really have to watch all the fat grams because they are eating more carbs than the "conventional" low-carbers? Just curious....THANKS

Hello all!
Wow, I don't check in for about 30 hours and this place is hopping! I was up and out early this morning for a customer meeting, so I'm just walking back in the door now. I did get up at 5:30 AM and did a 4-mile run before I went off to my meeting. Scale is right where it is supposed to be (for the first time since my Memorial Day weekend debacle.) And cravings are firmly in hand (OK, beside a few too many blueberries last night )In other words, life on the beach is darn good ![]() Last night I made a good dinner, very SB friendly. I stuffed chicken breasts with the following: jar of artichoke hearts (rinsed and diced), 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes (diced), a few leaves of fresh basil (from the garden, and shredded by hand), 2 TB of parm cheese, and about 3 oz of RF colby jack cheese. I sliced the chicken breasts partially open lengthwise, stuffed them and sealed them (just kind of smooth the sides together so the stuffing doesn't burst out), browned them and then baked at 350 for about 20 minutes. Along with it, my husband and I split a sweet potato that I cubed and baked with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and dried thyme. On the FF half and half, I try to avoid FF items at all costs. They always seem to have a lot of "stuff" added to them. If it's not HFCS, it some kind of starch. I will use certain LF or RF items, but it really depends on the ingredient list and the flavor. I'd rather use less of something that is full fat, than eat something that tastes kind of blah and has a bunch of extra additives. Definitely read your labels!! I'm with Rose, I never did like movie popcorn. It's kind of nasty Here's the thing for me...why do we need to eat during a movie anyway?? It's 2 hours. We don't eat or drink a thing when we go. It's all wildly over-priced, and just not worth it. I'd rather go out for a nice meal before or after!!Well, email is piling up. Time to check back into work. Welcome to all the newcomers!!

Ok, now I'm feeling super lost... Do I try at SB again or do i go back to Atkins? I know its a personal preference...but how do you decide when your not losing on SB and each time you tried it you dont', but I dont want the fat on Atkins...isn't the new Atkins approach ok w/lean meats, just maybe some fat cheese IF you want it and ofcourse tons of water and tons of veggies? I'm not giving up on low carbing, its got me 90lbs gone so far, I just don't know which plan to stick with and LOSE or finish losing some weight w/o these several months of no weight loss... Does anyone have personal experience on both diets they could share w/me? thanks again!!!

Hi, thought I would check in with my 2 week total loss - 6.4 lbs! I was hoping for more, but I'll take it. Now, moving on to Phase 2. We are going to a potluck dinner tonight. I will be taking a veggie salad and hope there are other things I can feel good about eating. I am saving my fruit and grain so that should give me some options. I have a question about snacks. I am sometimes not hungry - but I have been eating something anyway because of hearing that you have to eat to loose. So, the question is - should I always try to eat something even though I am not very hungry???
I have to try to get in the habit of posting - its just not something I am good at doing, but I will try to do better. Good luck this week to everyone!! |

Lisa, sorry if I befuddled you. I have been trying to say, when you're at this for a long time, sometimes you have to mix it up. You know, your body gets used to the same thing and it stops working well.
Yes, I have personal experience with carb cycling. When I cycled up, I found myself wanting to go back to running. I am down about 4 pounds from where I had gone back up to, before I started that experiment. Still running. For a couple of months since then, I have followed a very unwavering plan, and I think that's not working now. So now I'm going to try cycling down. I have been averaging 147 gr carbs, 120 gr protein. Progress report, after day one: I think I'm down the 1/3" I had puffed up on my trouble spot from the church camp carb-out, PLUS 1/16". That's one day. I posted my menu. I'm calling low carb about 85 gr carbs, plus about 140 gr protein. Whoever's asking about grams, I will say I use fitday.com, it's free, and I have spent some time experimenting with whether my body can't handle dairy, etc. Changing things up and seeing what happens. STICK WITH IT!! |
