Protein Shakes
I was just wondering if anyone had any good recipes for protein shakes as a breakfast alternative as I am getting a little bored by eggs, or leftovers.

We use Jarrow plain unsweetened whey protein powder and blend in fresh or unsweetened frozen fruit. Jarrow plain is a clean, high quality protein powder without any artificial sweeteners or chemical ingredients. Have you considered cottage cheese and yogurt? We often make protein pancakes or waffles on the weekends using protein powder. You can make an interesting pancake with ricotta and egg.

I've been drinking whey protein after weight lifting and in the mornings or as a snack. Look for Whey Protein Isolate and a low sugar content. We got ours at costco and while some people think it tastes bad, I think it tastes like really rich chocolate milk when mixed with milk and like watered-down Yoo-Hoo when mixed with water. I really dig it.

I took the Brown Rice protein powder back and found Whey To Go, vanilla, and using that. It's pretty good.
I'm now wondering how this would be if I threw it in the ice cream maker---except that would mean I would have to dig the ice cream maker out from the bowels of the forgotten appliance closet ... well, it's a thought. |

Cindy, so our protein shake is for Phase 2 & 3, right? Pudding and fruit not in phase 1. What about the protein powder, is that allowed in phase 1?
1 cup of Milk 2 T of ff, sf vanilla, white chocolate, or cheesecake instant pudding 1 t of vanilla 1/4 cup of yogurt (we use fage) 2 scoops protein powder Frozen berries (We are well beyond P1) A few ice cubes. |

Protein powder is fine in phase 1. For best results, you should use plain, unsweetened and add whatever legal ingredients you want.

I make the shake in all phases, but as Rose said; has to be legal ingredients......for P1, nonfat, plain yogurt, milk, protein powder, and then I use sf davinci's and or extracts for flavor.....
In P2 I add the fruit and pudding; the pudding is basically 1 T per serving, so unless you are using it alot for other things - which I wouldn't think you would - you'd be good. My favorite is banana's and berries together.......with a about a shot of sf cinnamon davini's! |

Hi, I am new and on Day 1 of Phase I and this question was one of the first ones that popped into my head. Is this okay to have during Phase I? The reason I ask is because I purchased this on amazon before I looked into the SBD, so it should be arriving today or tomorrow at my house.
Here are the ingredients: (if allowed, any limits or restrictions? soy milk ok? nonfat milk ok?) AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY REPLIES ![]() CHOCOLATE Serving Size 1 level scoop (24 grams), Calories 90, Total Fat 1.5g, Saturated Fat 1g, Cholesterol 30mg, Total Carbohydrates 2g, Dietary Fiber <1g, Sugars <1g, Protein 17.5g. INGREDIENTS: APT-Full Spectrum Whey Peptides [modified molecular weight and partially pre-digested (hydrolyzed) Whey Protein Concentrate (incl. ~14% glycomacropeptides [MW ~6,700D]), 100% non-denatured Whey Protein Isolate (98% pure protein dry basis), Whey Glutamine Peptides (incl. natural glutamine peptides), L-taurine, L-leucine, L-phenylalanine], cocoa, Glutasynth (D-glucose, L-glutamine, oligofructose, glutamine peptides), natural and artificial chocolate flavoring, Lecithin, ZINMAG-6 (magnesium oxide, magnesium aspartate, zinc aspartate, pyridoxine, zinc monomethionine), cellulose gum, xanthan gum, sodium alginate, sodium chloride, acesulfame-K, sucralose, dried cream extract, vanillin, natural vitamin E, lactoperoxidase. |

I think it would be ok to use it up, since you already have it. Then look for a product without all the artificial and extraneous ingredients. And as long as you use it to supplement your protein intake and not as a meal replacement.

I just don't care for the artificial flavors and sweeteners and the gums. These are all food additives that have been associated with health risks, although they are GRAS. It's best to eliminate as many additives as possible. But I am considered the group nudge. I think you have Designer Whey, right? If so, lots of people use it and it is very popular. Like I said, I would use it and then buy a really simple, clean product and add my own ingredients as needed. Hope this helps. |
