Oh boy!
I had a great time over the 4-day weekend, but it definitely showed on the scale this morning Yikes!!There were just far too many opportunities to eat, drink and be merry this weekend. And I was right there every time ![]() The final straw was our trip to NYC. We had lunch, saw a matinee, walked around, had cocktails, had dinner, stayed overnight...well, you get the picture. Thank goodness I couldn't eat or drink in the theatre I must say that our room was unbelievable. We were on the 26th floor in a corner suite (the whole hotel had suites - we didn't spring for one!) overlooking Times Square. It was truly an amazing view!So yesterday I kinda got back on track (didn't eat all my meals, but at least I didn't drink any wine, eat bread, etc.) Today I went for a 4-mile jog on the boardwalk, had my egg beater breakfast with salsa, and plan on having a salad with leftover turkey for lunch, etc. Hopefully I am back on track. I plan to do about 3 days of Phase 1 to cleanse my system of cravings... OK, nose to the grindstone, gang. Let's shed those Thanksgiving lbs and cravings before the rounds of holiday parties start up!! ![]()

Hi beachers!
I did better than I thought over the last week, even though I had way too much cheese, popcorn and wine a couple nights (no Thanksgiving goodies at all, though, strictly on-plan stuff--although I chickened out on the mashed cauliflower). I am actually down 0.2 lbs. since last Monday. I'll take it! ![]() Just had the second-last meal from the turkey (turkey with carrots, shallots, mushrooms and a load of green beans), with the last meal scheduled for tonight (turkey salad with celery and onions). I love turkey, but I am glad to see the last of it until Christmas, that's for sure. I have been very faithful with my walking, too, getting between 3 and 3.5 miles in most days. Today I left a little earlier than usual, so it was still pretty dark when I got to the footpath (where there are no lights at all). Good thing there was a light dusting of snow on the path, because otherwise I don't think I would have seen it at all! ![]() Wiz, your trip sounds like it was a lot of fun. I'm sure you'll be back to where you were in no time. ![]() Rose - another great photo! Thanks for getting us started. Cookie, how are you doing today? in better spirits? ![]() Cali Girl - did you get snow at your place? Cindy - ![]() Have a good week, everyone. Hope everyone who needs to gets back on track. ![]()

Whoo Hoo! The first check-in of my recommitted SBD life! I am actually off to the lab for blood work so I am fasting this am. As soon as that is done, I'll have some scrambled egg beaters and turkey bacon. I need to go shopping, so I'll have to sit down and plan a good Phase 1 menu!
I think I need to re-read the book too. Always good for motivation! Have a great day! Chris |

Hey there,
Wow, the break flew, can't believe it is Monday already... It was a nice vacation though. Had fun reconnecting with ppl at the reunion. Got several compliments which felt great of course. ![]() Weight was up a few pounds this morning. I'm not changing my signature, because I WILL be back in the 140s by the week's end. ![]() I ended up making a small turkey breast yesterday for DH and I, so we'll be eating turkey leftovers this week. I'm making a turkey soup tonight (with carrots, celery, onion and turkey of course) so aside from the carrots I am following Phase 1. Got in an hour of 10 in 10 last night and plan to do another this evening. Congrats Luisa! ![]() Today: B: 2 scrambled eggs, salsa, 2 turkey links S: string cheese L: big salad w/grilled chicken S: 15 almonds D: turkey soup S: we'll see

Today is Day 1 of solid Phase 1 for me. I did a bit while on vacation but now that I'm home, and I saw how much I weighed I am committed. Before I left for T-Day I weighed 310. I weighed in at 303 this morning. Not a typo. I lost weight on my vacation. I think mostly due to some GI distress, but also to trying to make healthier choices and SB because my Dad has lost 50 pounds now and I saw that this weekend and it inspired me.
Had black coffee, and having an omelet w/ spinach, mushrooms, and tomato, and some roasted cauliflower. Will be doing some shopping today. I'm actually excited. I haven't been excited by any plan or the hope for progress in a long time. ![]()

Can I rejoin? Hi Chantel! <waves> Dont worry babes, you can a piece of dark chocolate later on in SB! My sister lost 8 lbs in two weeks. So I joined y'all a while back, then I got into my training for a half marathon and started eating [and then overeating grains] Now I am doing WW bc I have friends doing it and I like having the social aspect HOWEVER, I have been pondering and I FEEL best low carbing. I MISS low carbing and I AM abusing some WW products so I am committed to counting points and doing SB. Will you have me back? ![]() Menu: protein shake, fat free milk and Matrix protein powder decaf Boars head lunchmeat and lett, tom, onion and dill pickle celery for snack flank steak, peppers, green and hot, onion, lett, tom for dinner Need to kick the sugar habit, am motivated and excited!

Hi, peeples. Wiz, that was a great weekend. Luisa, the pic is from southern Spain.
Chris, I seem to remember that you were good at sticking right to the plan. Didn't your husband eat with you?I'm making gingerbread for tomorrow's tea party for the retirement homes. They come every year to decorate Christmas trees and the library staff serves goodies. Be right back. |

Another gorgeous picture, Rose! Thanks again for the tranquil beauty.
![]() This has been a busy last several days for me, and will continue to be this week. DD1 had her baby boy on Saturday! Mom, Dad and son are doing fine. Her two daughters, ages 9 and 5 are here til Friday so you may not hear much from me until then. Weight may be up a bit, too, so will be trying to get back on P1 at the end of the week. Congrats to all who did so well over the Thanksgiving weekend! And welcome to those who are new and restarting! I'll catch y'all at the end of this week! Serena |

I can't wait until this becomes just a WOL for me and no matter where the wind blows me, or the emotions reign - this will just be me and how I eat. Then maybe I will be able to just 'be' and stop looking for the next whoosh or pat on the back - and stop making excuses and failing myself when those don't happen often enough to keep me stoked about a new plan. I've learned so many things from all the bobbles the last 9 years, but I still feel like I don't know anything, you know? On a side-note: OMG - roasted cauliflower is awesome. ![]() |

Melissa - I have become a bona fide cauliflower junkie! I think that a big chunk of us here have been doing this for a year or more and it really does become a way of life...sometimes you don't even realize it, it just happens. For example, Thanksgiving... of course I had stuffing, pecan pie, etc. I ended out NOT stuffing myself, was satisfied with a small plate (which made me feel kind of bloated) and ended it with no gain at all over thanksgiving.
Serena - Congrats on the new baby! I get my first grandchild in January. I have booked my tickets to go home and visit so that I will be there when she is born. lil Miss - welcome back. We haven't seen Antonia in a while. She said that she is busy and would be absent for a while, but we miss her! Menu for today: B - ff plain yogurt with vanilla sweetner, 1 slice lean ham, celery, coffee L - huge salad with leftover roasted turkey breast, lf bleu cheese, and mustard balasamic viniagrette, ff plain yogurt S - ? (ate my ham and celery with breakfast...I was hungry...but my salad was huge and I may not need one) D - SB fried chicken (use soy flour for the coating), mashed cauliflower with garlic (maybe cauliflower & cheese sauce...I'll decide later) Dsrt - lf sf cheesecake Busy day at work today. Hello, just marking my spot. Didn't get to check in with you all yesterday cuz I had my little granddaughter (2 and a half) for DD to take her state boards, and NOW I can't sleep cuz she takes her boards at 8 a.m. Nail biting time. She was doing so good in the massage therapy program, then within 2 weeks (July 07), she went deaf in her right ear (was able to save 20% of her hearing but she has a hearing aid in her right ear), then her little girl got RSV and was hospitalized for 10 days (docs thought at one point she wasn't going to make it), then my Mom had her accident in June. So, this hasn't been a good 18 months for her to take the program, but she kept on keeping on and graduated Nov 21, now the boards tomorrow.
Will check in sometime today. HEY CINDY, I did great today, how about you??? Dani, I too love the pics each week of the tranquil scene. I love to open the first page up and see it. Wouldn't you love to have some of those framed???

Hello SBers!!
I just finished up a great 5-mile run on the boardwalk. It was kind of frosty on the boards today, I really had to watch my footing! (because I am a major-league klutz to begin with, so ice does not help matters )I am inching (slowly) back to pre-Thanksgiving weight. It seems hard to believe that I can gain that much in 4 days (4 lbs, ugh). But with my Phase 1 menu, I got 1.5 lbs of it off yesterday and hope to see more off today. Hi Lil Miss, How did the half marathon go?? I would love to do a race that long, but I'm not sure my creaky old knees would last. FYI. Antonia is in her last semester at school, she hasn't checked in lately but we hope she comes back when she's all finished up. She was so close to her goal.Speaking of missing in action...where is Nena?? She hasn't checked in since her vacation in Wyoming. And Tina, geez, I really miss her. I certainly hope all is well. Becky, I can't believe your daughter has gone through so much stress in such a short period of time. Hopefully all will go well today with her boards! Cookie, I'm trying to turn my husband onto cauliflower - but he is resistant! I really like it a lot, and there are so many ways to serve it. It's actually on sale this week at Shop Rite, he's getting it for dinner one night this week whether he likes it or not! ![]() Melissa, You know what, in the year I've been doing this I never hit that point where I viewed SB as drudgery. There are so many choices, I never have felt limited. Good luck to you! Rose, Gingerbread - yum! My great grandmother used to make the best gingerbread when I was a kid. I can taste it now. I love baking for others, even when it is something I don't eat. Last week I made pumpkin pecan muffins for my folks' breakfast when they were here for Thanksgiving. I didn't have any, but they ate them like candy (and I sent the rest home with them, Cindy!)Serena, Congratulations!! That is wonderful, nothing like a new baby around the holidays... Batty, Get some rest (and eat those meals!!) Dani, Glad the reunion went well!! I, too, made a turkey breast for the 2 of us on Sunday. And I made a Mexican-style turkey soup last night. Great minds think alike ![]() OK, the conference calls are beginning...back to work. I have to tell you all that it has been amazingly wonderful not to get on an airplane the last 2 weeks. This is first time since August that I have gone 2 weeks without having to fly somewhere for work. I am loving it!! |

Hi beachers,
BRRRrrr, it's cold today! Temp's in the upper 30's or so but it feels a lot colder because there's a strong wind. I'm sure it was only in the low 20's when I went for my walk at 7:30 a.m. I didn't start getting warmed up until I was almost halfway through my walk. Had a lot of errands today and our car is out of commission (maybe permanently, looks like we'll be car shopping soon ), so I have racked up a total of 4.3 miles so far today.Serena - congrats on your DD's new baby! ![]() BrandNewMe, Redqueen, Chantel, Lil Miss - or welcome back!Cookie - I simply cannot imagine you as a soon-to-be grandmother! Rose - I love gingerbread! DH has been working his way through a big tin of gingersnaps and it has been really hard to keep out of them.Batty, Dani, Cindy, Rebecca, and anyone I missed - ![]() Hope you all have a great day. ![]() |

Good morning everyone! Thanks to Chantel for the heads up on this thread.
I introduced myself in the "how did you get here" thread, so I'll keep this quick... my name is Lee, and I'm new to the LC lifestyle. I'm 3 weeks in and 10 lbs down, so I must be doing something right! I'm hoping to lose another 5 by Christmas. Anyway, I'm pretty swamped with preparing for finals right now, but am looking forward to posting more often after 12/15. Good luck everybody! |

Hi Everyone!
Special shout out to LKK, I am a Philly girl too! [But have been recently transplanted to the South} Go Phillies! Thanks for the Warm Welcome y'all. ![]() Doing well today so far. Sugar is my ENEMY right now. I LOVE how I feel when I am not eating it. I must remember that! Chantel-Yes, try to get the book, it's a good, quick read and it helps me be motivated. Wiz-You are looking AMAZING woman! Very inspirational. So are you a full fledged runner now? 5 miles on the boardwalk sounds amazing, wish I coulda been there! The half was okay. I REALLY loved the training runs I did with my friends on Saturday mornings. Did 12 miles and felt FANTASTIC, who knew? The weather for the half wasnt great, humid and rainy, and then my Ipod died on mile 5, knee started acting up on mile 4, but, I DID IT and you coudl not get the smile off my face! Everyone I show pictures to, says, "You're smiling, how can you be smiling?" Cause I did it! I am very proud of the accomplishment, BUT my time was not good and so I am now training for a 10 mile race in February. Its a little lonely bc so far I am the only one committed to it out of my firends, but I want to prove to myself I can do better!Ok, so who has some awesome SB SOUP recipes? |

Melissa,
Hi! You sound like me. Your nasty inner voices and mine shoudl get together and go bowling! ha ha Sounds like they are a lot alike. Have you ever read The Thin Commandments? I think [help me out here Chantel] it's by Stephen Gallo, [is that right or am I making that up]? Anyway, it's a GREAT read. Very motivating. The GREAT thing is you recognize some of your self destructive behaviors so NOW you will not succumb to them! |

The boards are over with, she said the 2nd part was brutel. She said she has "ABSOLUTELY no clue, no clue" how she did was her quote. And, I forgot to mention, and Cindy remembers this from the Shorties thread, but DD's marriage almost ended in divorce when Alyssa was 5 weeks old (she's now 2 and a half) because her husband went back to drinking. She stayed at our house with Alyssa and the 2 cats and 1 dog for a night and he had to face DH the next day to come see Alyssa. He said it was so hard to face JOhn, especially since he didn't yell or anything, which is how John operates, that makes you feel worse than if he yelled, I think. But he straigtened up, and I pray that he doesn't go back to drinking when the new baby arrives in May/June. I probably won't check in tonight cuz I have to get the Tink slippers knitted for Alyssa and work on the baby afghan for an ex-coworker that has remained friends with DD and I (she's DD's age) since we left the old daycare. See you all tomorrow night. |
