Dear Cindy, Rose, Dani, and my Beach Babes,

Thanks for "listening" to my ramble yesterday. I often forget that even though I may be far from home, I am far from alone. Your support, kindness, and love are on the long list of the many things I am thankful for today. Thank you for your words of wisdom and sympathy. Believe it or not, I feel at peace today. I expected to be an emotional wreck, but your words comforted me so much that today I feel that I can just be comfortable and confident in who I have become over the past year and not dwell on the things of the past.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Good Morning All

Bet I will be the only one on the thread today. Have tried to pop in a couple times this week, but had too much going on. Even started to write a note, but never got it finished. There are days like this.

Cookie - I am hoping that you will have a wonderful day and not feel sad one bit. Sometimes life does throw us a ringer, but we just have to keep living it the best we can, right? Did you get to Lidl the other day? Luisa has tipped me on to them and I love shopping there. The German products have always been good...and great prices, too.

Cindy: Thanks for your tips on how to avoid eating everything we see!! With the coming days, we are all going to need it, I am sure.

Dani - Bet you cant wait for your reunion. You are gonna knock em dead!

Batty: Nice having you drop in for a short visit. Hope you do this more often.

Wiz: Good luck with the cleaning..hope you got everything done...i know what you mean about mom's coming for a visit!!

Okey everyone....start getting that Turkey into the oven and ENJOY the day!

Better the turkey having large thighs than us, CIndy.

OMG, guys, I did it, I did it. I took the turkey and ham and cut it up and put it on my salad. I had low fat Ranch and Newmans light lime vinegrette. It was awesome. One more to get through on Saturday at my family.

C ya all later.

Getting Back on Track After Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving's over, for better or worse — now what? Even if you strayed from the eating principles of the South Beach Diet, you can always get back on track. Here are four steps to help you regain your footing.

Clean your kitchen. Make sure no unhealthy foods (like highly processed chips and sweets) have crept back into the cupboards over the holiday. Take a trip to the grocery store to replenish your healthy snacks, such as low-fat cheese, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Return to Phase 1. If you overindulged, you may have to go back to Phase 1 in order to eliminate cravings. Fortunately, the South Beach Diet is a flexible plan that accommodates real life. In other words, you can alternate between the three Phases as necessary — by going back to the strictest Phase when you need to get back on track, for example, or stepping into Phase 2 or 3 so you'll have more choices during the holidays or vacations.

Move it. In the weeks ahead, remember that some exercise is better than none, so if you don't have time to fit in a 30-minute workout, do what you can when you can.

Get ready for the next holiday. Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's are just around the corner. Take the lessons you learned from Thanksgiving and use them to plan your next holiday celebration. If you keep your Thanksgiving failures and successes in mind, you'll be better prepared for the road ahead.

Hello!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a great day, and the rest of the weekend has been fun as well. My parents have headed back to PA, after my Mom and I got some good shopping in yesterday

The scale is definitely a bit high (no shock there...) but since we are headed off to NYC for the night (going to see a show, have dinner, just hang out) I'm not ready to jump back on Phase 1. That will happen on Monday

By the way, I made a butternut squash, apple and sweet onion casserole that was tremendous. The sauce was not very SB friendly, but I left some of the plain veggies aside for me and they were great without the sauce. Excellent combination of flavors.

I just dragged down all the Christmas decorations and have them stacked in my office. I'm going to try to do a bit of the inside decorations each day this week, so it's all done by next weekend. We'll see how that goes...

Cindy, great article on roping your cravings back into where they belong! As I said, on Monday, I will be back on a strict regimen.

Cookie, Hang in there, girl. It's amazing how different times of year can really trigger emotional responses. By the way, I live about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Philadelphia, and as you know, I get down there quite a bit to go to my Eagles games, visit family, etc. We have the best of both worlds here - we live at the beach, but are also equidistant between NYC and Philly.

OK, well we are off to get a little exercise and then pack our bags for the Big Apple.

Hi people...looking into South beach. Will rent the book from local library.

Today we are smoking some chicken and we are making a lc version of turkey soup with the carcass.

I think looking at the list, that soup wouyld be a ok as long as veggies are on the phase 1.

I am SHOCKED about milk. I am a milk drinker. I love it.

How long you guys been on SB?

I am looking to lose 7-10 pounds to goal and hubby at least 20.

I like the diversity of the SB diet. Plus milk.

Happy Saturday!

I had a pretty good Thanksgiving. I strayed a little off plan at my Aunt's house...had a small scoop of both potatoes and stuffing and a small piece of pecan pie. Other than that I stuck to the turkey, green beans, squash and veggie tray. Since we didn't cook this year and there were no leftovers to be had, I was back on Phase 1 yesterday.

DH and I do really miss the turkey leftovers, so when I go food shopping in a little bit I will probably pick up a little one on sale for us to make at home. I'll be making on-plan sides to go with it of course.

Yesterday DH and I worked on creating wedding albums to give our Moms this year for Christmas...3 years late, but better late than never! I was struck by how much heavier I looked. So I look much better now, but I think I've aged DH. LOL. He's pretty much the same weight, but his face has aged. He's starting to get a little gray too and at least I cover mine up, hehehe.

Tonight is my HS reunion. Should be fun.

I wish Tina would check in with us...I'm worried about her.

Chantel- I recognize you from the Callan thread. I've been following SB for 15 months and have lost 60 pounds. I love this plan...the diversity, the options. I highly encourage you to try it. Wow, congrats on your loss so far!!

Wiz- Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving! I think a lot of people will be back on the bandwagon on Monday. You'll get the extra lbs. off in no time!

Cookie- So glad to hear you are at peace. You are a beautiful lady inside and out and you have made tremendous progress this year. You inspire me...especially with those callanetics! DH surprised me by ordering Evo and Cardio so I'll hopefully be doing those soon.

Rebecca- Good job staying on-plan on Thanksgiving!

to Cali Girl, Rose, Cindy and anyone else reading the thread.

Okay, did GREAT on Thanksgiving Day with DH's family, but today at mine, I lost to the mashed potatoes. I only had ham and broccoli but a SMALL scoop of mashed potatoes. But do you all know what I did last year? Certainly not the success that I had this Thanksgiving. I'm ready to start back on Phase 1 tomorrow.

Next stop, St. Nick Day on Saturday, but I make the dinner at my house and DD, DGD2, DSIL, DM come and I make dinner and I get them all small gifts (from St. Nick). And DH gets the bills. LOL.

I have never tried hummas but I do know that Cindy about ate herself silly with it when she first started, didn't you Cindy. Or was that pre-SB that you were obsessing about it. WHat is hummas exactly? I saw it at Kroger a while back but was too chicken to try it and we were low on money at the time.

There are as many recipes for hummus as there are people who make it. Basically it is chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil blended into a spread. Then you can add roasted red peppers, garlic, etc. You can buy it in jars, but your own is so much better. There are also white bean or black bean versions. I guess you could make it from any kind of bean. Google for recipes.

Oooo, Rose, that one with the roasted red peppers and garlic sounds good. DO you have a recipe for that or is that just suggestions for it? I will have to google them and see what I can find. What do you eat it with? Something like celery? Whole wheat crackers? Don't know much about it except that I see it at the Kroger specialty area sometimes.

DD is the cook and she doesn't use recipes, just the idea. It's easier to start with canned beans. 1 can beans, about 1/3 c. roasted red peppers, 1-2 cloves of garlic, juice of 1 lemon, several spoons of tahini, a sprinkle of cumin and cayenne, a little olive oil. Blend it smooth. Serve it with veggie dippers or make your own ww pita crisps by tearing ww pitas into bite sized pieces, toss with a little olive oil and bake til crisp.

Chantel! I'm another Callan poster. Great to see you here.

Yesterday was our Thanksgiving celebration. We had over 20 people of different nationalities for dinner and it was great. Not SB friendly, but surprisingly I didn't overdo it. Normally I would eat until miserable and just couldn't do it this year, so woohoo. We managed to send almost all of the leftovers home with people so we have very few "illegal" things left. Those should be gone by today so that I can start tomorrow fresh.

Dani - I am so excited that your DH ordered you Cardio and Evo! Now you can join the cardio challenge too (which I need to squeeze in today to complete my challenge for the week). Love it!

Have a massively busy day and have to get going. Lots of love.

Becky - you are right; it was pre SB AND when I started SB! There are some great hummus brands right in the grocery store! For me it's all about convenience, and I haven't had a problem with any of it. Just read the labels. There are some delicious Roasted Red Pepper varieties out there - there also is an olive one that is to die for too!

Cookie - glad you did well yesterday and you sound more upbeat today!

Hi, all,

Thanksgiving is over, didn't do too badly, but did eat a piece of family favorites which I made. I am still losing inches, but up via the scale 3lbs.

The size 10's are looking great. Callanetics, glad I started you again.

Starting again today. Hope to post more in the coming weeks.

So, what area do you find the hummas. Do you eat it on veggies like celery, just can't figure out what to do with it if you're on P1 cuz you can't do ww crackers or anything. The olive one sounds good, as does the roasted pepper. Is the roasted pepper one spicy? Wonder if you can make some with those sun dried tomatoes in the olive oil? Will have to check them out as soon as I can figure out where in the grocery to find them.

So, does anyone have a recipe for Flan or egg custard for P1? I thought that maybe I could use the brown sugar splenda for the flan but I don't know a recipe for it. Maybe I could google it. I'm dying for some of that, if I can get it, then I'll slide right through P1!!!!

Public Service Announcement: Brown sugar splenda is half splenda, half SUGAR.

It's going to be next to impossible to make a true flan SB friendly.

Egg custard is doable. Just use your standard egg custard recipe and sub splenda and lower fat milk. It turns out fine, just a little more watery around the edges.

I guess that I thought since it was calorie free it was okay. THANK YOU so much for telling me that, or I would have blown it and not known why. That's why it's so good to learn from the vets.

So, I can do a custard with something like equal or something like that? That would work, as long as it's a custard. I'm craving egg custard something crazy. I would just take a napkin and absorb some of the water from the edges. So, can I use just the plain spenda???? Thanks.

So, I can do a custard with something like equal or something like that? That would work, as long as it's a custard. I'm craving egg custard something crazy. I would just take a napkin and absorb some of the water from the edges. So, can I use just the plain spenda???? Thanks.
Bear in mind that brown sugar Splenda is not calorie free.

Equal doesn't bake well, it breaks down and loses sweetness. Splenda bakes almost like sugar, so I would use plain Splenda. Blotting off the watery liquid is a fine idea.

Also, you can sweeten custard with pureed fruit or all fruit preserves and skip the chemical sweetener all together. That wouldn't work for phase 1, though.

Now you have me wanting custard. We made pumpkin custard for Thanksgiving, but I love plain egg custard.
