Greetings from Denver International Airport!!
![]() I had about a half hour before my flight, so I thought I would check in. Don't you love technology?? You can be on-line, do email, etc. anywhere you can get that wireless signal...and now with the Blackberry, you can do it all on one device. (Now you can see why I am in telecom sales )I won't get home until about 2 AM this morning and I am lined up for calls starting at about 9 AM. Doesn't sound like a whole lot of sleep (or exercise for that matter!!) tomorrow morning. So, we were delayed by a mechanical issue yesterday by 2.5 hours. I was exhausted by the time I got to Denver (actually my business was in Boulder, which is one of the greatest towns - loads of great little shops, cafes, etc.) So I had a quick bowl of soup and yes, a glass of white wine, in the hotel bar and went right to bed. But I was good this morning, I jogged along the Boulder Creek path. It was beautiful and SO warm. Colorado is warmer than FL right now, who can figure?? (speaking of FL, I wonder how Nena's trip to Wyoming is going???) I just ate a quick caprese salad (fresh mozz, basil and tomatoes) at the airport, so I am not tempted by the airplane food ![]() Rose, my new pic is from a Philadelphia Eagles tailgate!! I may be 48, but darn, I still like to have fun ![]() Cali Girl, I am a little confused by your email question. I log in from both my home and work PCs (and therefore different emails). But since I use the same login name and password, regardless of where I log in, it doesn't matter. Not sure if that helps or not... Serena, I realized that much of my weight gain came from throwing caution to the wind whenever I was traveling. It was as if being out of town meant I could not exercise, not eat right, etc. I made a huge decision that I could manage how I eat (and exercise) while doing my business travel. I cannot treat it as if I am on vacation! And you know what, for the most part, it is working!! Dani, glad to hear things a bit more "normal" these days!! I do like my job, but I gotta tell you the stress can be brutal. Oh well! We all have to do, what we have to do ![]() Cookie, thanks for the tips on those cookbooks. I've already wrote them down!! OK, my flight is getting ready to board!! Talk to you later this week...

Hi, All--
Wiz, glad you had a chance to check in while you were at the airport. Travel is so stressful these days. But your work sounds fun and interesting! Kudos to you for figuring out a way to eat under control and keep exercising when it must be so tempting to collapse in a nice hotel. You've got willpower made of steel! ![]() Cali girl, I guess we will have to figure out a way to keep those winter pounds off that so desperately want to come back on! I'm thinking maybe big bowls of soup to make me feel more full. Congratulations on an hour of callanetics! Was this the first time you tried it? I got the 10 in 10 dvd and could only do a little of the abs; the rest was impossible unless I wanted to pay for an ambulance to take me away! I did better today, although I strayed a little off plan with some pudding; but I think I am getting back in the mode. At least I have been riding the exercise bike every day, and that is helping keep the lbs. at bay. B - scr eggs, ham, spinach L - cup split pea soup, veg quiche, salad, choc pudding D - cup hot n sour soup, Chinese mixed vegs w/ tofu S - almonds, string cheese Hope you all have a great day tomorrow--we can do this! Good Morning Beach Babes
![]() Wiz - thanks for the info. I did tell everyone that I am IT ignorant. Now you know just how ignorant. I didnt think I could log in from a different email address. DUH Doesnt sound like you got much r/r after your vacation. I bet it feels like you never went on holiday.Serena - ahhh...the winter crisis. Nobody told me about this. I did one hour of callanetics. I did it at my pace, not hers. There were a couple of exercises I didnt do as I am not ready for them yet. I am going for the second hour either Friday or Saturday. Part of my problem is having the time to do it. Getting home from work so late makes it very difficult to get up the energy for an hour of exercises. But, where there is a will....Cookie - Thanks from me, too for the George Stella info. Boy did he ever loose a lot of weight. How are doing with your struggle with the ciggies? Well, this is much easier than trying to get the time to check in before I leave home. As long as my boss doesnt come in and find me at it....dont want to get busted. Have a great day everyone ![]() |

I have a confession.
![]() I made TWO Maple Pumpkin Sour Cream Pies last night.... One for the office and One for the Boyfriend (because he asked). I plan on having a BITE at the office and then maybe half a slice this weekend (if it's still around). I just miss baking. ALOT. At least they won't be in my house and my boyfriend has the biggest sugar tooth in the world. Hopefully he'll eat it up in one day. (he's known to do this with my key lime pies) ![]() Got in an hour of Callanetics last night (the bum is getting smaller!!! ![]() oh yeah... i didn't use splenda in the pies either. Hello all!
Quick check-in, I rolled into town late last night and have been going nuts at work all morning. I am SO tired... Good news, I've already lost 1.5 lbs of my vacation weight gain. Only 1 lb to go, should have it off by tomorrow if all goes well ![]() Jess, I really like to bake as well. But I've only been baking things that leave my house!! It's kind of tough making stuff that I cannot eat, but I have really sworn off all desserts, baked goods, etc. I've had some chocolate here and there, but that's been about it for the last 10+ months. I do love pumpkin pie, so I probably will allow myself a piece at Thanksgiving (minus the crust!) Cali Girl, You are making me laugh! My husband is also IT challenged, he's always asking for my help on something ![]() Serena, good for you doing the exercise bike every day. I am a firm believer in doing regular exercise, it really does keep those lbs off!! It's quiet today on our check-in thread, hope everyone is well and staying OP!! ![]() |

Quick waves.
Wiz - I tried out a couple of recipes from the George Stella cookbooks... Oh, they were good! Southern fried chicken and Cauliflower "mac" & cheese. Incredible! My kids inhaled them and asked for more. DS asked if "this food is on your diet? Cause if it is, I'll do it with you!" Woohoo! Cali - struggle with smokes... not too good but not too bad. I have had a few this week. Not totally smoke free, but close and definitely better than my pack-a-day habit from a couple of weeks ago. Jess - I too miss baking, but have found several recipes in these new cookbooks that I'll be trying out. I finally made that lime chiffon pie last night. I think you could rename it the "pain in the a@@ pie" (my mixer broke down half way through), but it is really delicious and I highly recommend it. Biggest advantage is that it took me long enough to make it and kept me occupied enough that I didn't think about food or cigarettes all evening. Cooking is very therapeutic for me. Always has been. I will post the recipe this weekend. Menu B - omlette with green onion, cheese, little bit of bacon, coffee L - leftover southern fried chicken, cauliflower "mac & cheese", fresh steamed asparagus, tea S - IF I need one (great lunch!!) almonds, tea D - cauliflower "potato casserole" This is my own invention. I've made it for years and years, with potatoes of course, and decided last night that it would be perfect if I just subbed cauliflower for the taters. And WAY faster to make!!! (the original calls for leftover baked potatoes. Time consuming) How to make it (sorry, I don't have measurements) Put cooked Cauliflower (or potatoes),in the bottom of 9x13 baking dish. (enough cauliflower to cover the bottom - if using potatoes, peel and slice them. don't chop or mash, just slice. you want them big and chunky.) Sautée: Mushrooms, Onions, Green Peppers (I chop coarsely because I like the tastes and textures) in a little olive oil and spread evenly over top of cauliflower Top with 3 or 4 cooked Chicken breasts (cut into strips, cubes, whatever you like). Hollandaise sauce - use your favorite recipe. There is a SB friendly one in the Stella cookbooks - and pour it over everything. Use as much as you like depending how "wet" you want it. Use less with cauliflower, more with potatoes. (I don't like dry food) Top with shredded cheese of choice (I use gouda or lf babybel...in the US I used Monterey Jack) Bake at 350 (200 C?) till cheese is melted and gooey.

Hello folks!
Slow week on our check-in thread...I guess everyone is gearing up for Thanksgiving. It was in the mid-20s this morning when I did my 4-mile run. I am just not ready for those kind of temps yet. Brrrr... Lots of work going on, I've got this big exec meeting at our corporate US headquarters bright and early on Monday AM. 7 customers are flying in from Sweden. So, it's been a busy day ensuring all my presenters have their stuff done and are typo-free, etc. We plan to start some Christmas shopping this weekend, it looks like the sales have kicked off in full force. With 18 nieces and nephews to buy for, we like to get an early start on getting that list done. Dani, You are my new best friend Believe me, if you got close up and saw the wrinkles, gray hair, etc. you would know I am well over 40!! But thank for the compliment. Heaven knows I appreciate it!Now Cookie, that sounds like good cooking. Whenever the family is skeptical about whether a dish is legal or not - I'm all over that ![]() OK, off to finish up my remaining conference calls and maybe head out for a little dinner on the town tonight with my lovely hsuband ![]() |

Also, I want some potato soup since it's getting so darned cold out. When I make it, I use potatoes (duh??), celery, egg to thicken it and milk. Do you think that cauliflower will be a good substitute for the potatoes? Do you think they will have the same consistency and somewhat of a potato flavor or just tast like cream of cauliflower soup.
Also, does anyone have the SB party book? I got it a few months ago but haven't made anything from it yet. What are some of your favorite tried and true recipes that I can take around non-SBers that are in-laws (you know those kind that can find fault with anything???). Thanks.

I thought I posted but I don't see it. Thanks Cindy, I sent you a pm. Is that Egg Nog P1 friendly???
Started SB today, the only thing that has me worried is Thursday. I have to decide if I want to keep my P1 going or go off of it JUST FOR THE DAY. FIL makes the green beans and uses bacon jowl, I make the mashed potatoes, the au gratins and the dressing (I could use the low carb bread or whole wheat and make a small dish for me with that, but you can't use bread on P1, but that would be better than eating the full fledged dressing!!!) and nothing else there will be SB friendly. I hate to go in with my own food since it's such a large, smarty pants group, but I don't quite know what I'm going to do yet. I thought of waiting til next Simdau but then I thought, "if I do, then I've lost the ENTIRE week", so I'm tossing around the idea of doing the 4 days on program, then do the Thankgiving the best that I can with my own dressing, and FIL's green beans (just the beans, but it has the fat from the jowl in the beans) and get right back on it on Friday. Grrr. this is confusing even for me. At least I can pass up their desserts, they're really not that good. But at least I will have 4 good days behind me and get right back on it on Friday. THEN we have my family's on Saturday, brother is making a ham, but I can work more with my family's and bring a few substitutions along and sneak them on my plate. I really was going to wait til Sunday to start it but then I've lost an entire week and at least it will help me "learn" the SB way the days that I do stay on it. I'm going with DD to Kohl's in a little bit and to WalMart. I can stock up on SB friendly foods while I'm there. Darnit Cindy, now you've got me psyched up for this. |

Becky - check my PM, but honestly, you have to decide what is more important. If you already are in the mindset that you want to eat off program things on Thursday, then you are setting yourself up for failure. It's not what can't I have, it's what CAN I have.........if getting the weight off is important, and I know it is - then start today, and stick to program on Thursday. NEXT year you can have a small amount of FILs beans and the au gratin.......until then, there is turkey, you can bring a big salad, or veggies......maybe try some new OP recipes that are P1 friendly.
C'Mon GF, you CAN do this! And yes, that egg nog recipe I gave you is P1!

I think I'm going to do what Cindy suggests, take a large salad and break the turkey up on it. I got some 2% cheese today and I think I'll add some of that to it. Maybe I can make some beans the morning before and take them in a little container and slip them on my plate and know one would know. Heck, maybe I will just take a big huge salad in my pretty punch bowl for everyone and then they won't think anything of me having a salad and nothing else with it. Yeah, that's it. Thanks for the inspiration, Cindy. You rock girlfriend.
Had an awesome day OP. I made this stuff that I make that I call Cabbage Stew, usually I put potatoes in it but I didn't do that this time. It's just boiled chicken breast boiled in chicken broth (canned) with celery (lots) then add the cabbage and boil that til it's done. JOhn asked where the potatoes were, and I told him that they boiled apart. LOL. Man, so this is the time that you start to lie after being married for 30 years???? Makes me chuckle when I think of it cuz he totally believed me. |
