Phase 1 help!
A friend of mine has been on South Beach phase 1 for about 6 days. She has lost 2 pounds. She emailed me for advice because she's feeling discouraged. I asked her for a typical menu. Here's what she sent me... any help on advice for her?? She is sick of eggs for breakfast, by the way.
---------------------------------------------------------- Breakfast: Cook 2 eggs with ham, veggies, or a little cheese. Choke down as much as possible before giving up. Snack: String cheese or almonds Lunch: Usually a salad w/grilled chicken or turkey, veggies, sometimes a little cheese, usually ranch dressing Snack: Veggies & hummus or Veggies & ranch or Celery w/pb or laughing cow (I usually eat a couple of snacks in the afternoon because we sometimes eat late after the boys go to bed.) Dinner: I’ve tried to be creative, which may be a problem. J Last night, I threw a bunch of veggies in a roasting pan (mushrooms, zucchini, onions, peppers cut in chunks) with some sliced chicken sausage links and a little tomato sauce and ricotta with some low-fat mozzarella on top. It tasted way too good to be diet food, but everything I put in it is allowed, I think???? Other nights I’ve had grilled chicken or steak w/veggies like green beans, asparagus, etc., and a salad. One night I made chili with ground turkey & about 3 kinds of beans, peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes. Snack/dessert: Sometimes nothing, depending on what time we eat. Sometimes sugar-free jello or a piece of cheese or a handful of nuts. Last time I tried south beach I was really into the ricotta crèmes, but this time, it doesn’t taste too good. |

It would help to know her stats.....if she is losing 20 lbs, then 2 lbs is right on target. How much cheese? more than a couple of ozs per day can be an issue. Portions on nuts is also key... 1oz is allowed per day. The meal plan charts are in my journal, if she does not have them. The sausages can have fillers, she needs to know whats in them. Phase I veggies are unlimited....protein is as much as she needs to feel satisfied but not stuffed. Eventhough cheese is listed as an unlimited protein, it is not wise to eat too much of it. Breakfast does not have to be eggs...I have tuna salad sometimes with cucumbers and tomatoes. Think outside of the traditonal breakfast box...save leftovers from dinner for breakfast. Tell her she needs to be patient. Is she drinking all her water...is she constipated at all? Hope this helps!! ![]() Last edited by Judynyc : 06-14-2008 at 09:02 PM. |

Also adding- Tell her try making a bean bread, the recipe link is at the top of this forum. That has been a saver for me for breakfast. It's made with beans so it's very filling, holds me over til lunch. I can't eat eggs either in the morning, maybe once a week.

Is she using the reduced fat versions of the cheese and salad dressings?
Using Natural PB w/no sugars added? laughing cow lite? I'm no expert, LOL, but it seems she may have a lot of cheese, even low fat it contains a lot of sodium and for some people cheese just stalls them. Hopefully someone else w/more knowledge can come in and help you out. |

Hi, I am slowly coming off of phase 1 and here are a few items that really helped me out on phase 1. Use this "bread recipe" for breakfast, lunch or a snack. I have made it by using Splenda a cinnamon in it for a sweet roll. I also make it up using fresh dill and garlic powder in it, and sprinkling onion flakes over the top before baking. It makes a great sandwich!
