How much different is "SB-Supercharged"
How much different is the newer SB book--"SB Supercharged". Is it just more recipes? How many more foods does it include than the older one?
I know it'd be to my advantage to get the more recent book, BUT I want to know how much of a difference it'd make than if I got the second. or ![]() Last edited by soulwings : 06-11-2008 at 07:55 AM. |

I know there are people that would disagree; but I bought it and returned it; there wasn't THAT much new information that I couldn't find out from those that had it or on the internet.
I thought it was a waste of money if you have the first book! JMO! ![]() |

The FAQs are worth having and the exercise section is a good program, esp for those who are new to the whole getting healthy idea. The expanded food lists are much easier to use, filling in some of the blanks that the old lists left you wondering about. The chapter on feeding children is worthwhile. On the whole, it's a good buy.

Rose I agree with you to a point. If you are new to the whole thing or haven't been doing SB that long; then the new book would be beneficial.
Having been doing SB for over a year; I really found the new info not that new to me......therefore the book a waste of money! Again, JMO! |

^Thanks for your advice you guys.
I'll split the change. There's a local bookstore, I'll just browse the FAQ's from Super-Charged, and buy the cheaper version from eBay! ![]() SW |

WOE: ??????? low carb

Hi Rose, SW and Cindy,
I am a kimkins flunkie. I was banned from the website but think it was a blessing in disguise. Anyway, I am currently seeing a nutritionist as I am diabetic and when I stopped the low carb, (very low carb) the rebound weigh was incredible. Of course not controlling the carbs I put in my mouth would be the reason for that. I mentioned SB to the nutritionist and she said it is a great program but induction is extremely hard and in general the diet isn't that easy. Now I'm not looking for easy, but I am looking for doable. It's also important that I get carbs in my plan. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time. Donna

I don't like the term "diet" and never use it. SB is a healthy way of eating, not a diet. In fact, it was designed for heart health, not weight loss. Weight loss is just a happy side effect. I would like to think that a nutritionist would be more encouraging. I'm not sure what you mean by "carbs". Anything that's not protein or fat is carbs. SB is full of carbs. Wonderful vegetables, fruits, LF dairy, and whole grains. I hope she doesn't mean that you need sugar and white flour, etc. You might be interested to know that many doctors put their diabetic patients on the SB program to control their diabetes. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions. Last edited by rose1 : 06-11-2008 at 09:18 PM. |

JMO LINDORA or Lean for Life excellant program for controlled carbs and balanced protein. However as I have done Lindora and lost the weight. I find South Beach a life plan style whatever you wanna call it very doable. I can tweek it now that I have lost the weight. They have a program designed for diabetics and is doctor controlled. |

![]() But we agree, we can disagree......on the book, that is! But Donna - Rose and I are in TOTAL agreement about SB and don't agree with what the nutritionist says. There isn't an "induction" like on Atkins.....it's a healthy Phase that detoxes your body from the bad carbs and crap, like white flour and sugar. SB is a way of eating FOR LIFE and as Rose mentioned it really is not a diet. You make wise, healthy choices and there is a lot of variety. I don't know of any nutritionist or doctor that doesn't think SB is a great way of eating for life. Did they read the right book? SB is DOABLE - it's so doable that I have been on it for over a year, have not felt deprived and will eat this way the rest of my life. Most people on SB feel that way and have had great success!

So, a question about the new book. I've been eating low carb (more like Atkins) for over 2 years now. Last week, my husband (who's only 42) had to have unplanned bypass surgery. He has a horrible family history of heart/artery problems, so neither of us attribute the surgery to our WOE. BUT, he is now supposed to do a low fat diet.
I was thinking that maybe South Beach might be the way to go, since we both enjoy LC. I think South Beach is the one LC book I don't have (or if I did, I loaned it out and forgot about it). Anyway, 1) Do you seasoned South Beachers think this might be a good plan since we'll now be watching fats as well and 2) Should I buy the new book or the old book or does it not matter? TIA! (also going to post this on the main SB thread) ![]()

Angie, this way of eating was developed at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami by Dr. A and hospital nutritionists especially for heart patients. The weight loss factor, , esp belly fat, was an unplanned side effect. Then the media got wind of the project and you know what happened then.
Seriously, spend a few dollars and get the new book. And by the way, SB is not necessarily a strictly low fat diet. It focuses on heart-healthy fats. |

Thanks Rose. I ended up going out before I got any replies and I went ahead and got the new one. I know SB isn't low fat, but it is lower fat than, say, Atkins. However, the nutritionist and cardiologist specifically said he needs to be following a low-fat diet (the nutritionist even said, for example, that while olive oil is a healthy fat, it's still fat and he should limit it).
My thinking was that SB might be easier to adapt to that. I'm, of course, going to read all the information I can get my hands on to see if that is the most supported thought process because I know some people are behind or hang on to the low-fat way of thinking. She even *gasp* endorsed tub margarine over real butter. We came to a compromise with Smart Balance. This is going to be a whole new ballgame for us, so I'm exploring and researching all that I can get my hands on. It's good to know that SB was developed for heart patients... I didn't know that at all. |

Thanks everyone for all the information...
I think I will be purchasing the new book and do some serious reading. I have heard so many good things that it certainly out weighs the negative I heard from the nutritionist. Maybe she'll change her opinion when I've successfully completed induction. How's that for positive thinking...
I will be checking in with you veterans as I'm sure I will have questions. Thanks again, hopefully I'll see you on the beach soon! ![]() |
