Good morning SBeachers!

I'm back at home! I did my 5 miles today (3.5 walking, 1.5 jogging) and by the way I got my 5 miles in yesterday while in Miami as well.

Of course, it's ToM and the scale proved it. I gained back one of the pounds I lost earlier this week But I've learned not to stress over the scale too much if I know I am staying OP. These fluctations are normal and that's the price I pay for weighing in every day!

So, I'm sucking down tons of water today and trying to stay very Phase 1 focused. (Started the day with egg beater omelet with RF cheese and salsa) My eldest niece's HS graduation party is tomorrow and I really want to go to the party saying I am down 30 lbs!! So darn it, that pesky pound is coming off today even if I have to walk/jog another 5 miles tonight

FYI. I have an adorable sun dress - size Medium for the party!!

Nena - What a great new pic! You look fantastic. I'll think of you (and Britt - wherever she is ...) tomorrow while at my niece's party. It is so exciting to finish up school and move on with the next phase of your life!

Momangel - Glad to see you checked back in. We missed you! 4 lbs is nothing, a couple days at Phase 1 and you'll be good to go.

Batty - Have fun camping! (My idea of camping is staying at a Holiday Inn instead of a Hyatt, if you know what I mean I am what my husband would call high maintenance )

Nana Susie - Looks like you are off to a great (re)start. Keep up the great work.

Luisa - I'm with you. With all the walking we are already doing, I'm not sure the whole interval program outlined in the new Super Charged book would really work for us. I think it is more for folks just starting out and potentially using a treadmill where you could really program it for the intervals. I read it pretty closely and I've come to the conclusion it's not for me.

Dani, Tina, Rose - Hope all is well. Sounds like all of you ladies are swamped (but staying OP!!)

I probably won't get to check in this weekend, since I will be in DE. TGIF!!!

Nena- you new picture is lovely! You have such pretty hair...I the color!

Wiz- Yay on the M sun dress! KUTGW!

Just a quick . Things should quiet down once school lets out...at least I hope! I will be out w/friends this evening and then a graduation and graduation party tomorrow, so probably won't have another chance to sign on till Sunday.

Have a great OP weekend everyone!

Greetings

Hello!

I have been on the South Beach diet two days short of three weeks. The first two weeks I lost 11 lbs. This week I have gained .4 of a lb. Have any of you had the same experience of gaining after switching to phase 2? Also, I ordered the LifeScript shakes. Anyone else using them? (I have only had one). Do they cause you to gain, lose faster, or no effect?

Thanks!

Hello and to South Beach.

.4 lbs is equal to about ONE glass of water. That's nothing to be concerned about. If you are following the plan, by the book, as written, you should continue to lose. Slight variations in weight will occur, no matter what!

LifeScript shakes are not a bad product for occasional use if the need arises, but if you look at the menu plans, you will see real meals with real food. This is what SB is about. SB is not about quick weight loss; it is about eating healthfully for life. The weight will take care of itself.

Hi Everyone! I'm back after a long absence...I've been doing sort of a phase two for a few weeks and I've already lost 5 pounds.

I'm really interested in learning more about Callanetics...I saw the Callanetics before and after thread, with photos that seem to show amazing differences after mere hours? Is this possible? I'm interested to hear from the ladies who've been doing Callanetics - did you see such noticeable differences in such short times? It seems too good to be true.

I'm looking for a good home-based workout, and seriously considering Callanetics. Would I start with the 10 in 10 workout?

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated!!

Thanks, Antonya

Hi! Thanks for your response. I know home cooked foods are the best and I can't always cook. I have MS and am on chemotherapy for that nasty disease. Energies levels are at times very low. Other than having one shake I have followed the diet plan to the letter. I am hoping to start losing again, but I have been on South Beach before and had the same problem when I started on phase II. The dieticians have given be some great ideas which have been very helpful. If anyone out there has ideas for easy to prepare meals I would appreciate hearing from you.

Again, thanks!

4foxfire, . Have you checked out the recipe thread?

SBD Recipes and Meal Ideas

Could you maybe try cooking extra quantities when you do have the energy and refrigerating or freezing the extras for quick meals when you just can't cook? Also, FWIW, I bounced around up and down for about 2 weeks when I first started Phase 2 before things stabilized and I started losing again. Give it some time.

Antonya, back.

Nena, add me to the list of those who like the new photo.

Wiz, enjoy your party AND the size M dress. (*green with envy*)

MomAngel, nice to see you again. I'll sure you'll be right back on track real soon (in fact, with 2.5 lbs down I'd say you're well on the way!).

to all the other Beachers here...I have to get back to work.

To you. I had no idea you were fighting MS. Chemo will play havoc with water weight. Again, don't worry about fluctuations. You haven't really gained weight, you're just holding water. The shakes will help keep your energy and protein intake up. One of those would make a great "snack" when your energy flags. The excellent nutrition of the SB plan will help you fight off the side effects of the chemo.

Have you tried the quiche cups? We make that recipe in one big pan and cut into squares. That recipe will last for days in the fridge.

You can cook a large roast or turkey breast and eat off that for several days. Prepare large batches of soup and freeze. You can cook a big pot of steel cut oats; that will keep all week and makes wonderful fried oatmeal. Cook on your good days and then you will have something ready to eat when you don't feel like cooking. Those are just some quick ideas. I know it's hard to be creative when you're feeling bad.

Hang in here with us and we'll all help.

Thanks, Rose

I haven't tried the quiche cups but I will. I have done some cooking in larger quantities when I have the energy. A large roast is a great idea...one cook, one clean up ! Sometimes it isn't the cooking that is so bad (I DO love to cook) but the clean up is the not so fun part. I truly do appreciate your support and look forward to connecting with all of you in working together to achieve our respective goals. I still have 50 lbs to lose and I have been "dieting" (I prefer changing my lifestyle) all of my life. So kudos to all of you who are sticking it out and working so hard to be healthy.

Good morning! I am back after I dont know how long. I used to be on the Atkins boards quite a bit in the past, but I am total SB now. I KNOW SB works as I lost 30 lbs on it last year, but due to stress I gained it all back very gradually. But this year (literally since day 1) has been very stressful for me and I have lost and gained the same 8-10 pounds probably once a month! My hubby and I split in January, and it was a shock to me - not what I wanted - but after a lot of thought I'm thinking it is the best thing he could have done for me... but it still hurts - a lot.

I do feel different this time around and more determined than ever. I have a pool I rarely go in, but I have promised myself I will go in a LOT this summer - I even bought a suit I actually feel semi comfy in! I am tired of not LIVING my LIFE! Its sad that I wasted so many years because I was fat (and most of those years I wasn't nearly as fat as I am now! I have a really good feeling I'm going to lose a lot this time and really stick with it!

back to all returning Beachers! South Beach is the best!!!

Had a great time yesterday at the graduation and grad party. It was for a former student of mine and he's a sweetheart. I stayed on plan there too! Had yummy steak tips and a big salad. And I stayed away from the desserts too!

Today I'm off to my mom's for a family cookout. I'm bringing roasted cauliflower and broccoli and angel food cake, sf cool whip and berries. My mom will also be serving burgers, steak, macaroni salad and cole slaw. It is going to be 90 again today. Gotta love New England. We go from 60 to 90 in one day.

Today:
B: yogurt
S: apple
L/D: see above
S: if needed

Have a great day Beachers!

If you stick with SB, I really believe you can achieve your goal. This forum is so supportive. We make use of bagged salad greens and slaw when we are pressed for time. Just grab a handful of greens and plop it in a bowl. The slaw mix is great for slaw or soups. We make a great cabbage/white bean soup. We use canned beans quite a bit just because of time, but we try to cook big pots of beans and freeze them.

Here's how we make the quiche. Beat twelve eggs, add 6 cups of lightly sauteed veggies ( broccol or spinach, green pepper, onion, mushrooms, olives,) 12 oz. grated cheddar cheese, bake in a 9x12 pan at 350 until a knife comes clean. Cut into 12 squares. Each square gives you 1 egg, 1 oz cheese, 1/2 c. veggies. You can adjust the quantity to suit yourself. Believe it or not, these are good cold. Boiled eggs keep a long time, too. We boil at least a dozen at a time. You can get frozen chopped green pepper and onions which are fine for cooking and avoid chopping.

You can oven roast a huge pan of veggies to eat on all week. Just whack up whatever you like, toss in olive oil, seasonings and roast. Yummy.

On days you feel like it, do a marathon cooking spree and only clean once. You are so right about cleaning.

We'll come up with other ideas.
