You sound like me. We have a lot in common right now.
![]() I miss TOGO's. I've been out of Cali for 17 years. Next time I'm in West Hills we should have lunch. I come out once or twice a year to see my sis. Tonight I actually did the "load up on crap because you 'start' tomorrow" thing. I'm back up to 157. How can I go from goal 128 size 3-5 and gain 30 lbs and wear a size 16-18? I was a size 22 at 240 lbs. Lose 90 lbs and still have such a huge gut.... it doesn't make sense. Most people I know in my range wear a 10. I couldn't button a 10 around my waist if I tried. ![]() I need to join a Curves or the "Y". I used to do toning tables and it was the flatest my tummy ever was. Wish I could pay for all three. ![]() Quote:

Hello Phase 1 Beachers. I hope you don't mind if I join you. I had joined the check in thread a while back and I do read here and there every day but had gone so off track I stopped posting. I am officially starting back with Phase 1 today.
I lost a lot of weight last summer on another low carb plan but have gradually been gaining it back and now I have pulled my spring clothes out and am NOT happy with the way the do/don't fit. I refuse to buy another larger wardrobe. I decided on South Beach because my 21-year-old DD's doctor recommended it. She will graduate college in two weeks and I want to support her this summer when she is back home. My plan is to do Phase 1 for two weeks and then probably Phase 2 at least for the weekend when we have lots of company for the graduation. Then I will decide what to do from there. I ordered the new book last weekend when people here started talking about it. I was going to wait but decided I wanted the free DVD too! Sorry to ramble on but I am excited to get started again. lol. Mary Oh, one question. I was wondering if protein shakes are allowed on Phase 1? I had been doing a whey protein shake for breakfast with coffee, SF davinci syrup, NPB, vanilla whey protein and ice. |

I'm not setting too ambitious a goal because I've done that in the past and have felt so disappointed when I didn't meet it. If I could get to 155 by July 4th (the wedding) I would be ecstatic because I'd have until Oct 16th (my 1 yr SB anniversary) to reach goal. Of course I would love to meet my goal even sooner! If I get back into the gym from having this 1 month hiatus, i think I can do it. As always, thanks for the support and words of encouragement! ![]() Good morning ladies! I'm up a little earlier than usual on a Saturday because I have a lot of cleaning to do. DH & I decided to putt of our trip into Chicago to buy a car until we find something worth going for. I have a few assignments for school that I need to start on, but other than that, there's not much going on. to the phase 1 thread Mary! I've never tried any shakes on SB, so I'm not sure, but I know Rose knows .Wendy: You know you can do this! I think joining curves or the Y may be just what you need to get remotivated. Don't be too hard on yourself, you're doing great. to everyone. Enjoy your weekend!Yesterday's menu (phase 2): B: none L: 2 sm, boneless pork chops, brown rice w/ veggies, chile con queso D: SB pizza S: shake from Whitey's ![]()

Vero, I know what you mean about ambitious goals. There was no way I could count on even a pound a week, so to say I'll lose 10 lbs in a month would have left me in a major depression. A shake?

Mary. It's great that you and your daughter can do this together. Our family eats this way; it's great for everyone! Phase 1 should last for two weeks and then you really should move to phase 2 anyway. so your plan works out just right. Just have plenty of SB friendly food available for the graduation and you will not have to worry. There is no need to stay of phase 1 for longer. Whey shakes are fine. It should not be a meal replacement by itself, though. They are fine to help you get enough protein, but you need to be sure to get the recommended amount of vegetables in. We sometimes stir up one when we are running really late, but we always have at least a container of veggie sticks to grab, too. Hope this helps.

Thank you Rose and Vero. I hadn't really thought of grabbing veggies too but I have been reading in the threads that lots of veggies are recommended. I usually do that when I have time to make an egg beater omelet for breakfast.
I definitely plan to have lots of South Beach friendly food for the graduation since I am going to be the one planning and fixing everything! Menu for today: B - egg beater omelet with kidney beans, green peppers, onions, LF cheese and a little salsa. S - string cheese L - salad with cut up chicken breast, grape tomatoes, kidney beans, LF cheese. S - almonds D- turkey burger with LF cheese, vegetarian baked beans S - SF fudgcicle Mary |

Mary!Wendy- Join me in Phase 1 Monday?Rose- Still reading the book or is it finished already? I'm sure librarians are like us English teachers...I can finish a book a couple of hours, as long as there is nothing else to do! ![]() Vero- Hey there girlie!Anyone heard from Teresa? I hope she's okay. She must be busy with school.Well, it's my last day of vacation. I am getting together with a friend for lunch and then I'll have to come home and figure out what to do with my classes tomorrow. I haven't given one thought to work all week. LOLYesterday, we had my Mom and grandparents over for dinner. My grandparents both have their birthday in late April. My grandma just turned 78 and my grandpa just turned 81. Grandma's been doing SB-Phase 2 and has lost 10 pounds so far so I made a SB Phase 2 friendly meal: salad, grilled steak tips, fresh green beans, and sweet potato oven fries. I made an angel food cake and served it with berries and sf cool whip. The meal was a hit even for DH and grandpa! ![]() I started out my vacation week doing really well on Phase 1 and as the week went on I got lax. I'm up a couple of pounds from signature. I've been craving Mexican all week (TOM) so I am going to enjoy it today with my friend and go back to Phase 1 on Monday. I realized how much easier it is to stick to it when I am working. ![]() So, who's with me for Phase 1 on Monday? Yesterday: B: 1 HB egg, 2 pieces canadian bacon S: 15 almonds L/D: salad, steak, green beans, sweet potato oven fries S: angel food cake, sf cool whip and berries

Congrats on your meal Dani! I've been on Phase 1 since yesterday so I'll be on it for almost the same amount of time as you. Is phase 1 always 14 days long even if you go back to it from phase 2 or 3?
I'm feeling a little bit guilty because I've had 3 coffees today, albeit small ones and I had them with skim milk but I don't think I exceeded 2 cups of milk. Is that ok or did I maybe overdo it a little? Another newbie question I have is about sweetener, is there a daily limit? |

We drink too much coffee some days. We just use 1% and don't worry about it. I seem to remember something about limiting sweetener in the early literature, but nobody seems to pay much attention to it. One thing to be aware of is just the sweet taste starts your body's insulin response and can cause fat storage. (In a very small nutshell your digestive process starts with the first taste or even smell and starts releasing insulin. If no real food follows, insulin gets stored.) Lots of people get stuck and complain that they're eating according to plan, but if you look carefully at what they are eating and when, you can see the insulin problem. All this to say limit your artificial sweetener to the bare minimum. ![]() |

How does this look?
Sunday Woke up late after the concert last night (yawn) BR-LN: cottage cheese, loaded cauliflower, coffee SN: 10 cashews, loaded caulifower DN: lean boneless pork ribs, broccoli & mushrooms, onion, garlic SN: Ricotta You know I forgot how sweet unsalted cashews are. If I don't go crazy, I can grad a few at work and leave the candy bowl alone. ![]() |

I was talking to Britt the other day about how sweet nuts are if you really taste them. They are a wonderful snack, I just have serious portion control problems. ![]() Menu looks fine. What are you doing with the ricotta? Plain? |

I like it plain or mixed w/ fruit. I'm trying to stay away from or drastically reduce AS. So probably plain or a little vanilla extract added. Ricotta tastes sweet to me. It also makes a great veggie alfredo mixed w/ parmesan.

Hey Dani. I am with you too. I am glad people are starting Phase 1 again tomorrow. I started yesterday and haven't gone off plan. If anything I haven't eaten enough. I haven't had my snacks today because we were out shopping all day and I forgot to pack some to take with. We were at an IKEA store. I had a chicken caesar salad which after I took the croutons off consisted of lettuce, chicken and some parmesan cheese. I didn't use the dressing.
Haven't decided on dinner yet. We just got home. Probably more chicken with a big helping of steamed veggies. I seem to have an easier time right now during the week too. I work in a school so pack my lunch and snacks in advance. I usually do well in the summer also when I am off because I am more creative and like to try new recipes. My last day is May 21 so I am counting down the days! Have a great night! Mary |

Wendy, glad you are going to join me in Phase 1 tomorrow. ![]() Mary. Are you a teacher too? I teach HS English. I do pretty well in the summer, but vacation weeks like the one I just had I tend to want to get a bunch of treats in. Glad you are joining me in Phase 1. ![]() Rose- I do the same thing with books. Read it quickly and then go back line by line. I can't wait till mine comes in now!Porkypine- Glad you are joining us here. I think Rose is right on the coffee and sweetener. I gave up coffee (occasionally have decaf or a real cup) and use sweetener maybe once or twice a day. I think it is better than sugar, but try not to overdo it. ![]() I just got in an hour of Callanetics. Looking forward to getting back on Phase 1 tomorrow. My lunch is all packed and ready to go. See you all in the morning! |

Here I am again...starting phase 1 again today and planning on doing two clean weeks to get back on track. I had guests this weekend and ended up eating the goodies I made for them (even though I also had plenty of SB friendly stuff for me - of course, I ate too much of that, too!
). Up 3.5 lbs. since last Thursday - but it's obviously my own fault.I am now working on a big job with a fairly short deadline, so I will be working non-stop from now until May 8 (weekend included). Having said that, guess I'd better get on with it. Have a great day, everyone .

Hi all! My long post in the weekly checkin describes my weekend saga, I won't go into it here. Suffice to say, back on Phase 1 this week ![]() One tough thing for me is that our kitchen is ripped up. I currently don't have a stove. While the grill works great for dinner and I can eat a salad for lunch, breakfast has been a bit challenging! All this work should be done by the end of next week, so I'm trying to hang in there as best I can. In any case, today's menu plan: B: Leftover grilled veggies (brushed with EVOO) and 3 slices RF (only 2.5 grams per slice) of Jarlsberg lite S: Activia FF yogurt (yes, I realize this is not Phase 1 friendly...) L: Salad with more leftover grilled veggies and low-salt ham S: celery with laughing cow lite D: Grilled chicken with avocado and tomato slices OK, love this Phase 1 thread - I'm in! I'm also realizing that I really don't drink much water over the weekends, and I think that is contributing to my weekend weight gain. I've got to remenber that a glass of wine does not count toward my daily water intake |
