Hi Dani!! here is the recipe for the soup i have been eating all week.....btw, i could never find the spice, turmeric, and it still turned out great.
RAINBOW SOUP This is one of those soups that people tend to love. I often put leftover turkey or chicken in it. It is also good with beans or chick peas, if your diet allows. The idea is that it has vegetables from all the "color groups", so lots of antioxidants and other nutrients. If you have any fresh herbs around, feel free to throw them in. INGREDIENTS: 1 medium onion (2 1/2 inches in diameter), chopped 2 large stalks celery, chopped 4 cloves garlic, pressed 1 medium red bell pepper 1 cup chopped carrot (you can use chopped pumpkin, if available) 1 heaping Tablespoon sweet paprika 3 teaspoons turmeric 1/2 teaspoon cinammon 1 bay leaf A little hot sauce 1 15 oz can tomatoes, chopped 1 large leaf of chard, about 1 and 1/2 cups - can use spinach or other dark leafy green - cut into thin strips 10 oz frozen green beans (or fresh) Salt and pepper 5 cups stock or broth (I like vegetable or chicken Better Than Boullion - but watch the saltiness) 1 T olive oil PREPARATION: 1. In a large soup pot, put oil, onion, and celery. Cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes to develop more sweetness in the onion. 2. Add garlic and turn up the heat to medium. Cook for a minute or so and add the peppers and carrots. Sponsored Links 3. Add tomatoes and stock, and simmer for 15 minutes. Add frozen beans and chard and simmer for another 5 minutes or until the beans are cooked. If adding cooked cubed meat such as chicken or turkey, add at this time. 4. Adjust seasonings. Nutritional Analysis: Makes approximately 9 cups of soup, each with 6 grams of effective carbohydrateplus 3 grams of fiber and 53 calories

Hi
ladies! Checking in with my menu for today. I have been so busy with school work and applying to the university I want to attend in Texas, plus filling out extra paperwork, and have not had a chance to go to the gym. I did, however, walk my dogs today because the temp here reached 73!! WOOOHOO! It was windy, but oh so nice! I still have a ton of school work to finish even though I worked my non-existant tail off today. I can't wait for this semester to be over. Dani & Cowboymom: You're welcome for the recipe! It sounds a little funky but I swear those beans are delish! Let me know what you think if you ever try them out. Rose & Teresa: Thanks for the breakfast suggestions but I don't like yogurt and can't stand eggs. I would love to eat leftovers but unfortunately most nights my younger sister who weighs all of 100 lbs raids the refrigerator and eats everything that's left. I'll try to do better, I promise! Today's menu: B: none L: 1/4 grilled chicken breast; leftover "charro" beans & some grd beef w/ onions, tomatoes & jalapenos D: grilled chicken breast w/ SB ranch; cup of cheddar broccoli soup Ok, off to shower and then continue with my schoolwork. to everyone I missed and have a goodnight!

You're absolutely right. I feel bad sometimes calling her on things like that, but I think she would understand if I explained to her that I really need it more than she does. It's so difficult to be raised as the only sister out of 4 girls who weighs more than 120 lbs....ARRRRGGHHHH! This is the reason I have food issues (growing up with "stick figures" who could eat whatever they wanted and stay thin as models). I love my sisters to death though. |

Good Afternoon ladies.
Today's menu: b - none (didn't get out of bed till 11 cause we are on school vacation, DD is off at grandparents' house, and DS and I stayed up till 2:30 reading "the Outsiders) L - 1 lean beef "sausage" patty, 2 eggs, coffee D - (planned) white fish with dill, fresh steamed spinach, ff sf plain yogurt with vanilla sweetner & 5 pecans (my fave SB dessert) A friend of mine turned me on to fresh spinach. I used to never touch it until she cooked it for me. It is amazing how wonderful fresh veggies taste as opposed to canned. It is so simple, you put a bunch of spinach in a pan, add a drizzle of olive oil and a touch of water, cover and steam. Fabu with a touch of balsamic vinegar on top. Vero - my mom is the thin one in my family. My sister and I have always had weight issues. Last week was my new BF's birthday and a tiny little friend of ours did that hug thing where you jump into the other person's arms and they hold you. I was so jealous. But how can you possibly tell someone that you are petty and jealous because your BF can carry someone else but not you. ![]() ![]() Dani - I understand being too tired to workout after work... today I set out all of my stuff so that when I walk in the house, it will be sitting there staring at me and will be hard to resist. The plus side is that when you stick with it, you notice little improvements. For instance, i love step aerobics but could only ever do them on a 4 inch step. Since dropping the 40 lbs, I can now do step on a 6 inch step! It's awesome! Hang in there hon. Oh, I did get in a workout yesterday, 30 minutes of step plus 30 minutes of heavy upper body work (Cathe 4 Day Split Higher Impact Step plus Pyramid Upper Body Down only premix). Tonight's planned workout is 30 minutes of step plus 30 minutes of heavy lower body toning. (Cathe Friedrich - 4 day split Lower intensity step plus Pyramid Lower body down only premix... I have tons and tons of DVD's) longingtobelittle - we all have those days where we can't seem to stop eating. I have tried everything from sipping green tea to having a cup of veggie soup. But no matter what, we all have those days. Don't beat yourself up for being human. Remember... I think you ROCK!

Down another 1.2 this morning, which makes it 2.8 since Monday!
![]() Vero- Tell sis to back away from your food! LOL. I totally relate to your situation w/your sisters. My sister (almost 24) is a stick and always has been. I'm so tired of being her fat, older sister. The cool thing is now she is giving me some of her old "fat" clothes, 10's and 12's that she wore a couple of years ago. She currently wears a size 4. I'd just die to be a 6 one day!!Cookie- Good for you for exercising regularly!! I promise to workout this afternoon! Vivian- Thanks for the soup recipe! I will definitely try it soon! and to the rest of the Phase 1ers!I'll check in later! |

Dani - we have not finished the book yet because DS loves for me to read it out loud to him. He is also reading alone while I'm at work. Since we are originally from Oklahoma, I have the accent and everything and can explain some of the regional slang such as "like it or lump it" that he doesn't get because of his youth. I could not believe he did not know that expression! He is LOVING the fact that everyone in the book says "y'all', and of course I saw the movie about a million times, so I can tell him who played which character. The Outsiders is one of my all-time favorite books. I recently gave it to my BF for his birthday and also got a copy for DS. Next up... the Great Gatsby! I am trying to do what I can for DS's "American" education since he won't get anything here. He may get some British and Irish history and culture, but I am the only source of American history, literature, etc.
BTW - great job on the loss! This mornings scale reading was 90.6 (kilos ladies... gotta love the metric system) Basically the same as sig and considering that my scale is psycho and goes up and down by 2+ kilo every other day, I will take the low reading and move on. Tina! Great to see you again. I've missed y'all! |

Hi,
I just started this plan (I am on day 6) and while I have cheated a little as mentioned in an earlier post I have lost 1.5 pounds. But I have to admit I am hungry, disouraged that it isn't more when I read the "8-13 pounds in Phase 1" that the book said (I know, it is only day 6 - I am impatient!) and when I read what everyone is eating it doesn't look like much to me. Do you just get used to not eating as much? I had a poached egg on spinach this morning, half a cup of vegetable juice, water and coffee, but I want some toast!!! I will buy some veggie bacon since I only eat chicken/turkey and fish/seafood so maybe that will help to get the extra protein. Admittedly I only have 8 pounds to get to what I'd like to be at so maybe it is harder to lose that last bit? This looks like a great site for support! Thanks in advance! |

Hi to all you phase 1 people...mind if I join you?
I've been doing phase 1 since Monday...at least until late yesterday. TOM arrived after a 2-month absence and seemed determined to make up for lost time. I was pretty miserable. I finally broke down and had a glass of wine for my cramps (helps every time), then another, then I was into all kinds of food I shouldn't have been. It wasn't pretty. Oh well, back to eating right today (I hope!).I tend to eat a lot of the same things day in and day out (my veggies, for example, are usually some combination of lettuce and/or spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, onions and celery), so I am trying to mix things up a bit more. Today I made asparagus for lunch and I also got some homemade minestrone down from the freezer (guess I'll have to pick the carrots out). I also roasted some garbanzos. Don't know if I'll like them or not, because I sure don't think much of the unroasted ones , but I thought I'd at least try.I am still not feeling the greatest. I think I will dodge a few rain drops and go out and grab a handful of lemon balm from my herb garden and make some tea. It's supposed to be good for cramps... ![]() Hope you all have a great, on-plan day. ![]()

There is no need to be hungry. With the SB plan, you eat til satisfied, but not stuffed. Most of us eat plenty of food and you will see the oldtimers fuss at people for not eating enough. SB was not developed as "diet" although it will take off the excess weight. It was developed as a heart healthy way of life. Some of us, as maintainers, have experienced pound creep and we are doing just what the book says to do-- going back to phase 1 for a while. Your breakfast is perfect. You'll have toast in another week. Are you eating your "snacks"? I call them mini meals, because you should have protein and vegetables, not something junky, for each snack. Best South Beach wishes.
