Jim,
Steel cut oats have not been processed like the rolled oats have. If you look at the oatmeal section of your store, you will see Steel cut oats, they are pretty spendy, I think I paid close to 7 dollars for 1 container of them. But they are whole grain and look more like a nut or something, they are not flattened out like regular oats are. They are more healthy for you. HTH! Kelly |

Make a pot of steel cut oats. Eat some and put the rest in a loaf pan. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into slices and fry in your version of butter. The edges get crispy and the center is warm and soft. We put sauteed apples or peaches on ours, but some people use syrup.

I love baked oatmeal.
Baked oatmeal is a Penn. dutch recipe it is awesome and fills you up. Baked oatmeal Ingredients 1/3 cup butter 2 large eggs 3/4 cup spenda ( I do not use sweetner) 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla 1 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 3 cups oatmeal(regular or Steel cut) Directions Melt butter. Grease 1 1/2 quart baking dish and drop in eggs and beat well. Add splenda, baking powder, vanilla, nutmeg or cinnamon, and salt. Mix well, no lumps. Whisk in butter and milk, then add oats. Stir well, and refrigerate overnight. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 35-45 min, or until set in the middle. Serve hot with warm milk |

hey thanks for all the recipes! i think the "fried" version is what i must have been thinking about! i need something fast during the week and thought it must be better than reheating in the microwave.
yes, when i have some time i may play around with the baked oatmeal recipe-it looks scrumptious! thanks again! ![]() |

Here is a SB friendly, simple version of baked oatmeal from Kelly (heahyou00)
Baked Oatmeal: Boil 1 cup water & 1/3 cup FF milk, add in 1/2 cup steel cut oats, stir frequently. Cut up 1 apple and add to mixture with raisins as well if you wish, add in some cinnamon and some splenda or sf maple syrup. Remove from heat and pour into a 8" greased pan, cover and bake at 375 for 20 mins or until all liquid is gone. This makes 2 servings. |

Recipes for me are just a guide. I have found that since I have changed my way of eating I can change a few things in many recipes and they can still be good and SB friendly. Fried oatmeal sounds wonderful. I will try it the next time I have oatmeal left overs.

You are all making me drool. I want to make this oatmeal bake! I am just afraid I will eat the whole thing. Well....I probably wouldn't because it would probably be really filling. So, hmmmm......maybe I will try it.
