Any SB'ers making corned beef and cabbage today?
Hi All,
Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Just wondering if anyone else is making corned beef and cabbage today? If so, what's your favorite recipe? I do a fairly simple crockpot recipe myself... corned beef, cabbage, onion, potatoes, and various spices. I throw the potatoes out afterwards, but have found that they do a great job of soaking up the salt from the corned beef, so I still throw them in. My local market had nice-looking corned beef on sale for .99 a pound, so I bought lots for freezing. How do you like to make yours? Jim |

Mmmmm... sounds good. No corned beef & cabbage for me today - but it might be hard to resist an icy cold pint of green beer! :0)

We enjoyed ours yesterday...throw the corned beef in w/the potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onion, a little pepper. I enjoyed all but the potatoes.

P.S. Gotta love Wisconsin! I travel cross-country quite a bit for archaeology and love stopping at corny out-of-the-way tourist attractions. During my last trip out west we stopped at the 'House of Cheese' which is along the interstate in Wisconsin. I had my picture taken next to the big mouse. It was almost as impressive as the 'Corn Palace' in South Dakota. ![]() Jim |

Is corned beef SB legal? I would think it is too fatty.
Anyway, I had corned beef, cabbage, and 1/2 sweet potato for lunch today and it was quite good. |

You have a good point about the fat, but I'm not one to give up tradition because of my diet. One thing I noticed is that by the time the corned beef comes out of the crockpot it is basically 'falling apart' tender, so it's pretty easy to pick out pieces of meat only. I'm much more concerned about the sodium.
