Anyone use bars for "emergencies"?

Just wondering if there are any "safe" snack/breakfast bars that you all would recommend? I travel throughout my region for work a lot (and sometimes with no advance notice), so it helps me stay on plan if I can keep something legal in my car at all times. I already have almonds. I hate to eat processed junk, but the convenience is a big factor for me.

Right now I have some Fiber One bars at home. Yes, sugar is listed as an ingredient. One bar is 150 cal, 4.5g fat, 9g fiber, 9g sugar. Does this differ much from the packaged SB bars? Would they be ok on rare occasions?

If you dropped one egg on the floor, would you throw away the whole carton? I will NOT let one slip-up turn into a day/week/month off plan!!!!

I have kept the cereal bars around in the past but they were mostly to keep DH out of the cookies. I don't see any harm in using them once in a GREAT while. When I get caught in situations similar to yours, I make a protein shake and put it in my traveling water bottle. It's not the best but I know my body is getting what it needs. I also usually grab some celery sticks for "crunch". Maybe keep some hard boiled eggs in the fridge for these occasions. Try to be inventive and not have to rely on those bars.

IF you need to use bars; why not look for the SB bars? I use them on a rare occassion for emergency purposes......There are so many other options though that are easily toteable!

Cheese sticks, nuts, boiled eggs, veggie sticks, protein drinks in a thermos. I look at bars, even SB ones, as glorified candy bars. You can bake your own bars with good ingredients. I admit to being the board nudge.

I use Atkins Shakes for breakfasts when I can't eat at home.

No South Beach foods here in Canada.

Yeah, that......what Rose said. I have pretty much quit eating any of the SB stuff - even if I did rarely use it.....

Actually, can anyone point me in the direction of a recipe for bars? I don't remember seeing any in the recipe thread.

Thank you so much - all of your ideas are great. I have lots of ideas for healthy SB snacks, but I wanted something to KEEP in my car for last-minute road trips. Cindy - you're right - to be on the safe side I will get a box of SB bars.

Thanks again!

Rose might have a recipe or two; I'm sure she will be stopping by. Yep, Cindy, I keep them for emergencies in my bag and car when I travel. I figure it's better than the alternative.

I have a box of the SB cereal bars in the house. I keep one in my purse when I am out incase I am detained out in between meals. I also carry a small apple and bag of almonds with me at all times (I invested in a backpack...COACH of course)

I have some SB bars for emergencies. I also sometime have a Kashi bar if I'm in a real bind. The kind with lots of nuts and oats.
