Good Morning Beachers!

Up 2 lbs from the weekend. That is it. I am going to be doing close to phase 1 this week. I want to get into the 150's by the end of this month. I WILL EXERCISE this week. I will not fail and I will continue on with the WOE because I believe in it and I know it works. All right off my soapbox.

DD bday is coming up and she took the toys r us ad and circled all kinds of things she "wants". She is definately her mothers daughter! LOL

Veronicka - brown rice is ok for phase 2, don't beat yourself up. If you are in phase 1 just continue on in phase one!

Cindy - I love a chatty post also. I love learning more about everyone and their lives. I don't know, knowing that Jorja Fox has left the show keeps me wondering whats going to happen with them. Sp what was the one thing you did for yourself for the weekend? Did you get your latte and/or your hairspray? NYC? Where's our jelous smiley? That sounds like a wonderful time!

Jacqui - good luck with the job search and the new avi. I think it looks way different than your other one. You look really young in the new one.

Neesie - glad you had a good time this weekend. Good for you for making the best choices available! I think you are definately on the wrong end of the deal with your DD! LOL Congrats on everyone noticing. That's a wonderful feeling.

Kelly - I can't wait to try the PB cookies. I PB cookies! I like them really crunchy tho. (my family calls them BURNT ) Good luck with tomorrows weigh in. We are rooting for ya! 30 lb club, you rock girl. You are going to be in the 40 lb club before I make it and I only had 2 lb to go!

Cookie - Did you watch CSI yet?

Tammy - girl! I'm with everyone else, we miss you checking in here more! Hope everything is good with ya! Sounds like you found a great deal on your coat. I am looking for a new one for my DD this year. Trying to find one on sale for a good price.

Dani - Congrats on having to get that dress taken in! That's great, KUTGW!

not posting yesterdays menu, NOT GOOD!

are lean cuisine legal? I am doing phase 2. but that would make things a lot easier. I think that Kelly has these occasionaly, they are very salty, so you might wanna watch them

what about this light wheat bread?I think this would be ok

what is a flat out wrap?these are WW wraps that are usually sold near the deli counter in the supermarkets, I really like them to make pizzas

on atkins they have revolution rolls - anyone know if I could still have these here? Are these make with eggs? If they are they are good for any phase. I think I was gonna try these at one point and got lazy and never made them

is 2% milk a total no no?ff milk is preferred, but I would use the 2%

what about cereal? how much is a serving? cause 3/4 cup doesnt seem like much. what kinda cereal are you having, most cereals are a no no. I think for Fiber One that 1/2 is a serving tho.

what about Carbmaster Yogurt from Kroger? is this ok?This should be fine. I use a low carb yogurt also, but can't remember the name right now.

I am trying to use up some things left over from atkins, but I am wondering if it wouldnt be better to just chuck em and start over? regular half n half; heavy cream, regular sour cream etc...the half n half is ok, heavy cream, not so much, and the reg sour cream I would also use. I know that a couple of people are using regular cheeses instead of the ff or lf so. . . After this was gone tho personally I'd go with the ff or lf.

oh yeah, one more question - I am going to the grocery store tomorrow night.... since I am still pretty atkins minded, can I ask for a few staple suggestions to keep on hand... lf or ff cottage cheese, ww wraps, lf or ff cream cheese, lf or ff shredded cheeses, chicken, fish, natural PB, lots of veggies, sweetner of your choice

I hope some of this helps you out, it's all I could think of at the moment!

Tina!

I like getting to know everyone too; what's going on in their lives.....I am on another thread with a group of ladies that we have been togther sinc 2003. You really feel invested when you know everyone; and here it makes me even more accountable!!!

I love Thursday's CSI! I wish they would do more with some of the other character's....I really like Catherine, Nick, Greg and Warrick. DD17 and I tape and watch this together. Do you watch CSI Miami? I love that one too!

Wendy - I would strongly suggest you follow the program as written. It is recommended to use low fat or ff products, not full fat. I use all low fat....and for milk it's recommended to use skim. For once I followed a program as written and it worked! Imagine that! I can't remember - are you starting out in P1 or P2. If P2, then you can add grains, gradually and fruit also. String cheese and v8 is a staple for alot of us.....another good snack is hummus with veggies. Bread, you have to be careful - read the labels; some say whole wheat, but are not.

Tina - I did treat myself to that latte at Starbucks, but it wasn't sf!! They didn't come that way, but the gal said she would cut back the syrup. I did find a way to replicate at home, sf and nf and made another one yesterday. Didn't get the hairspray though!!! Next time.

DD17 and I head out on college visits on Thursday; her top two schools. It should be a fun trip. DH can't go and of course DD20 is a college student herself and can't go, so it's just my baby and me!!! It will be fun just the two of us....we will leave Thursday and come back Friday night. Hoping to get a little shopping in too!

Well, I got my over 3 mi walk in.....proud of myself for keeping that up.....off to make breakfast and get ready for the day.....sometimes I hate working the later hours and sometimes it's nice to just have a relaxing morning with everyone gone!

ETA: Yesterday's menu:

Bfast:
1 cup of coffee
1 NF, SF Pumpkin Spice latte
Scrambled Eggs with Roma tomatoes, piece of WW bread toasted with Fleishmans

Lunch:
1 McD's Grilled Chicken Snack Wrap
Diet Coke
Piece of Parm Bean Bread

Snack:
Peanuts

Dinner:
Piece of Lasagna (made with ww noodles, chicken)
Salad
Piece of ww garlic toast

Sweet Treat:
SF Fudgesicle

Good Morning Beachers,
Well the weigh in at work looks promising for me, the gal that has been in the 2nd place spot the whole time didnt lose that much and I am sure I have at least beat her, which is good news. So I am thinking I should have 2nd place in the bag. The gal in 1st place has been on vacation this week and last, so that could be good or bad, we will see at the weigh in tomorrow, her and I weigh on Tuesday. 300 bucks for 2nd place though isnt bad!!
I am doing a major workout during my lunch break today and skipping my sweet treat tonight just to make sure things go as planned for the weigh in.
My menu from yesterday was this :

b- Omelet w/turkey sausage & cheese
s-2 slices cheese
l- Chef Salad w/ ham & cheese
s-2 choc chip cookies
d- Italian Herb Fish w/ steamed veggies
d- SF ice cream bar

6 South Beach Diet Super Foods

The South Beach Diet encourages you to reap the benefits of nutrient-dense whole foods rather than trying to get those nutrients from supplements or fortified food products. "When you eat whole foods, you're getting all of the nutrients from the food, but you're also benefiting from the nutrients' interaction within the food — an advantage you just can't get from a vitamin pill," says Dr. Arthur Agatston, preventive cardiologist and author of The South Beach Diet. "That's why I recommend eating delicious fresh foods in a rainbow of colors that contain antioxidant and other disease-fighting nutrients rather than turning to supplements that have not been proven effective," he adds.

Here are some delicious antioxidant-packed foods to incorporate into your meal plans:

Blueberries (Phase 2): A 2005 University of Illinois study found that a number of compounds in blueberries, including pigment-producing anthocyanins, have powerful cancer-preventive powers. Other berries have similar antioxidants in smaller quantities.

Walnuts (Phase 1): Like all nuts, walnuts are a great source of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Unlike other nuts, however, walnuts are high in heart-healthy omega-3 oils. Enjoy up to 15 walnuts a day as part of your nut/seed allotment. Other South Beach Diet–approved sources of omega-3s include flaxseed and, of course, fish and fish oil.

Pomegranates (Phase 2): These fruits are high in flavonoids, antioxidants also found in red wine (Phase 2) and cocoa (Phase 1, unsweetened). Recent studies show that pomegranate juice (Phase 3) may also help prevent heart disease.

Sweet potatoes (Phase 2): They're rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C, both powerful antioxidants that work to eliminate free radicals (damaged cells that injure healthy cells and harm DNA). Other good sources of beta-carotene are carrots (Phase 2) and apricots (Phase 2).

Tomatoes (Phase 1): A 2002 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that eating tomato products may reduce prostate cancer risk. The link is so strong that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration now allows tomatoes and tomato-based products, like tomato sauce, to carry a health claim linking tomato consumption with a reduced risk of prostate cancer. The key ingredient is a powerful antioxidant called lycopene, also found in pink grapefruit (Phase 2) and guava (Phase 3).

Kale (Phase 1): Research shows that eating dark leafy greens, like kale, may help maintain good health by reducing one's risk of heart disease and stroke, some cancers, and several other illnesses. They're rich in beta-carotene, folate, and vitamins C, E, and K, which help protect against cell-damaging free radicals. Regularly eating dark leafy greens may also lower blood pressure and cholesterol and promote normal eyesight. Spinach and Swiss chard also contain these disease-fighting ingredients.

Good morning! I am so happy to report that I am down 1 1/2 pounds this morning! Yay for weekend challenges, lol! I definitely think watching my salt intake after last week really helped, and upping my water.

Yesterday I got busy cooking, and I made the stuffed peppers from the recipe board, but tweeked them a little. Instead of using salsa I used a NSA tomato sauce and threw in some LF shredded mozzarella. They were to die for! A nice italian treat, and I can serve to my DF and make him some pasta to go with. I give them two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Tina - Thanks for the well wishes, I haven't even started my job hunt yet! I'm heading to the unemployment office today and I'm going to collect for a while and figure out what I want to do. Might go back to school for teaching, I think that's what I really want to do. Who can beat summers off, lol?

Cindy - Count me in as a huge CSI fan! I have a few episodes to catch up, I like to watch a few in a row on On Demand. I might catch up today. I love all the characters, and for some reason I always rooted for Catherine and Warick to get together. Maybe some day! I hate to admit this but I even have CSI: The Board Game, lol!!

Danielle - How about that game last night?? Whoooo hoooo! Red Sox are going to the World Series!!!

What do you guys think about 100% whole wheat mini bagels by Pepperidge Farm? I bought a bag of them yesterday and had one this morning with LF cream cheese and two eggs. I felt sinful eating it, after no bread for months. I'll just have to see what the scale says the next few days.

Hi Tammy, Neesie, Kelly, Reg, Veronicka, Cookie, Ericha, and anyone else I've missed!!

Yesterday's menu:

B - 2 cheesecake muffins
S - ham and cheese in a ww, oat and flax pita, with lettuce, tomato and may
L - One whole stuffed pepper
D - Broiled salmon and a sweet potato
S - Small 70% dark chocolate lindt bar, sooooo good!

Have a great day everyone, I'm off to hit the gym!

Jacqui

Morning Ladies...

Sorry for the short posts. I've been tired these past days and It's rained for 3 straight weeks here on the coast. I usually have a nap after work because I've been on my feet all day in the shop. Tomorrow should be sunny and warm. My weight has stabilized and I'm happy that I haven't gained. I've lost 2 lbs of the 4 I gained 2 weeks ago and I'm working on losing those last 2 and then I'll be in the 160's range. I can't wait!!!

My menu for today,
Breakfast: fibre 1 w/2%, coffee w/2%
Snack: 1 apple, some baby carrots
Lunch: 2 whole wheat wraps w/shredded Lf cheddar, lettuce, tomato, LF mayo
Snack:?
Supper: baked sweet potato, tossed salad, whole wheat pastas w/tomato sauce.

I've got to get going and catch the bus... so will post later.

Have a great OP week!!!

Good Morning Everyone

We're back from our trip and had a fabulous time.

I was really good with the food for the first part of our trip, but started treating a little too much the last few days. Yesterday when I weighed in I was up 6 pounds from when we left. I'm sure a lot of that is water weight, I always retain a lot when we cruise. This morning 3 pounds of the 6 was gone... Hopefully the next 3 will come off pretty quickly. I'm going to see what this week brings before changing my siggie weight.

Obviously there's no way I can 'ketchup'... I'll just say...

Welcome to the newbies
Good job to those that have lost while I was gone
Hang in there to those struggling

I missed you guys while I was gone... I'm glad to be able to get back to my SB routine.

Hey Beachers,

I've been in a funk the last couple days. I hurt my back over the weekend and I don't know how. My lower back is really sore like I pulled muscles. The only thing I can think of is that I did some bending over to file things in my filing cabinet at work on Friday. The bottom drawer sits on the floor. So, because of the pain I wasn't able to workout yesterday and I won't workout today. Not good.

I had a friend come to visit for the weekend. My dad spent all afternoon making this beautiful lasagna only to drop it when it pulled it out of the oven.. I wanted to cry. We ended up going out to a seafood place instead. I thought I was ordering something healthy, but my tilapia ended up being lightly battered even though it did not mention it on the menu I did have a piece of key lime pie for dessert. Saturday, I ate off plan for lunch and only had a burger and two cookies for dinner, but when I weighed yesterday morning I was up 8 pounds from my lowest weight (223). I ate OP yesterday, even though I was very tempted to eat some bad stuff and am down 1 of the pounds today. I must be retaining water big time because I know I haven't gained that much weight from a day and a half.

Have a good day!

HI Beachers!
So I weighed in this morning and I lost a 1/2 pound since Friday. This was the last of my little gain last week, so now I am down to my lowest official weight. I was hoping for more on Friday but after this weekend I'll take it. Now it's onward and downward! I have less than 2 weeks to loose 2.5 pounds for October goal. Probably won't happen but I'll give it my best shot! Things are going very slowly now - but they are going so fingers crossed!
I finally filled up my food log notebook. It was 175 pages x 2 sides. Starting a new one today!

Wendy - here's a few answers: It's long - sorry.
Lean cuisines- there are extremely few frozen dinners that don't have the big 3 - potaotes/rice/pasta. One I found that I enjoy is Lean Cuisine steak tips porteblo with brocolli. If you're going to get frozen dinners find the few without those 3 ingredients and only have them once in a while and do watch the sodium too. Light wheat bread may be okay. The first ingredient should be whole wheat flour - not ENRICHED whole wheat flour and sugar should be way down on the list. FlatOut wraps are a particular brand - usually found (in my case anyway) near the deli case of the supermarket. They come in different varieties and a pretty good. If you can't find them use whole wheat wraps with the lowest carbs you can find. Don't know about revolution rolls. I eat more than 3/4c (but not much more) cereal but I only eat Fiber One which is the cereal of choice for SB. You can up the volume by adding fruit - berries or half a banana if on P2. Don't know about the yogurt maybe someone else will. As far as Atkins stuff - I'd chuck it... funky ingredients - except for the 1/2 & half/ sour cream / heavy cream. It is suggested to use lower fat versions but the regular ones are okay as long as they don't bother you. As far as foods are concerened - think clean. Real fruits and veggies, whole grains etc. Not a lot of processed stuff.
Staples to get: fiber one cereal / fresh veggies / SF jello / SF cool whip / NSA fudgesicles / cheese sticks (string cheese) / bagged salads / food containers in various sizes. Pay close attention to posters menus and get tips from those.
I am very good at pre-prep, it's what's kept me going so long and is a big key to my success. Try and prep a few meals on the weekends and make little extra of you dinner for lunch the next day. Get yourself a lunch box and pack your lunches and snacks the night before. Nothing can get you off plan quicker than not having your meals lined up for the day and having to hit the cafe - or worse order takeout. As you'll see we all tweak a little - you have to find what works for you but you should stick as close to the lists as possible until you get the hang of it.

Kelly - good luck! I can't wait to find out who wins!

Tina- what happened this weekend girlfriend? I know you'll get right back on plan and the 2 lbs will be gone soon - remember our little 40 # club challenge!

Reg - I got rid of my 1/2 pound - so can you! KUTGW!

Jacqui - congrats on the loss. Stuffed peppers are on the menu for us this week too. It's funny how we all seem to go in cycles food wise.

Tammy - Hi Girl

No tip for today yet - will post it tonight!

Today's menu:
B: fiber one / 1% / splenda / banana / tea
L: salad / dressing / crans / chicken
S: pumpkin cheesecake / sf cool whip
D: Cheeseburger (no bun) / hot dog (no bun) / 1 carb ketchup / mustard / 1% milk
S: NSA fudgesicle or Blue Bunny treat

Back to work girls!
Have a great day,
Neesie

Hi Ladies,

I haven't posted in awhile.

San Diego is burning today. We have 5 wildfires in the county. Several towns have been evacuated. I live in area that the widfires have never gotten to, but it's still raining ash. We're all keeping our fingers crossed that the Santa Ana winds will die down before the predicted time. Our office isn't too far from the evacuated areas, so we're living with the radio on, just in case we get the order to evacuate.

Now, the for good stuff:

Yesterday morning I grabbed a pair of junky jeans because I was going to a friends house to lay tile in his kitchen. I put on my jeans and said, "Akeeza (our laundry lady) must have left these in the dryer for an hour....they're a little tight." I was thinking that maybe they had shrunk and I was retaining water. Nope. They were my size 12 jeans!

I'm down a size!!!!!!!

Buy a new scale woman. Just kidding. I can totally relate to how you feel. Maybe we are twins separated from birth

Of course it's water weight....you'd have to consume 24,000 calories and lay in bed all weekend to gain that much "real" weight.

Congrats on dropping the pound.....I'm sure the rest will come off by the end of the week.

Hang in there.....Hope your back is feeling better and you can shake the funk
