Moving over for Ericha----

Rose -If this gets lost at the end of this week's thread could you please move it to Monday for me?

Thanks!

Cindy/Neesie - Actually anyone having trouble sleeping. You can start to build up a resistance to Melatonin after a while. What I would suggest is Valerian Root. If you can find the liquid version it's better than the pill. Tastes better too. Pills work but liquid works faster and tends to last longer. It's the only thing I've ever found that allows me to get a full night's sleep then wake up refreshed without drowsiness. Be sure to take it a good 30 minutes before bed, though and if you are not going to get 7-8 hours of sleep use a smaller amount. With the liquid I use 10-12 drops then add about 2 tbsp of water. Drink that, then drink another swallow or 2 of water. Then be sure to wash out the glass. Valerian is good but it's got a very distinctive smell and taste. Not bad...just distinctive. You can find the pills in most drug stores but for the liquid you'll probably have to try a health food store. I'm lucky enough to get it from my DFs mom for free. She buys it in Russia when she's there and brings it back with her. Good stuff.

Just a quick check in. I'll be back tomorrow before my lovely day of gym, massage and baking commences.

Have a great night!

Sipping coffee, ready for my walk.

My Packers lost.
It's still hot outside.
Not a good way to start the week!

Starting out at a high school this morning.....in fact, I travel every day this week but Friday!

Enricha - thanks for the info; I am taking 3 mgs now and it helps, but not working like I would like. I have the Valerian Root capsules and the smell is . Would love to try the liquid; will look for it!

Yesterday, weird, but OP:

Bfast:
1 cup of coffee, pumpkin cheesecake

Lunch:
Popcorn in EVOO, drizzled with EVOO too
Diet Rootbeer

Dinner:
White chicken chili, whole wheat parm garlic bread

That was it yesterday!!! Not a big apetite!

I will post the recipe for the white chicken chili this week....a little more involved than Tina's recipe, but tastes just like the restaurant chili we like.....it was awesome AND OP!

Have a great day on the beach all!

And Tammy:

HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!!!!

Jacqui....Sorry to hear of your work woes. Good luck with your search for a new one. Keep us posted !! Great job handling the wedding food !! I'm in a wedding this coming weekend....let's hope I can do as well as you !!

Neesie 2x...have you ever tried to substitute apple sauce for oil in cake recipes? Maybe that would work for your muffins. A friend of mine used unsweetened apple sauce all the time in cupcakes for her DSs class and they tasted good, and were moist. My mom has a cast iron pan with the raised lines. *Almost* tasted like a BBQ. I'm in NY and we BBQ in the snow.

heahyou00....Excellent job steering clear of the goodies !! Thanks for sharing your feelings on falling off the wagon and then totally blowing the rest of the day. Makes sense.....gotta remember not to beat myself up so much.

jandanoj...Hi !! Enjoy lunch with your friend. I've gone out mexican and ordered chicken fajitas while lowcarbing. Just ask how the peppers/onions/veggies are prepared. Maybe they can steam them for you instead of sautee in oil. They may even have WW wraps, or you can skip the wrap all together. Good luck !!

Danielle....Congrats on losing another pound

Ericha2...Thanks for the tip on Valerian Root. We sometimes have sleep issues with DS9 and the neurologist suggested 1œmg of Melatonin. I'm going to have to ask her about your recommendation. I've also read that bananas make (g)you sleepy too.

PIR8....Congrats on your 17lb loss !!

Marsha, Cindy, Tammy, 1of, Diane, Cookie, and everyone I missed .... HI

The kids are off from school today, and we may be going to visit family (apple farm)

Enjoy !!

Good Morning Beachers,
I am still holding at the same weight today, but I have a huge workout planned today during my lunch break and drinking lots of water today because tomorrow is the weigh in for Biggest Loser at work. I know I am down 2 pds already from last weeks weigh in,so I need to try and get a little more so I can catch up with some of the other girls. The gal in 2nd place didnt want to weigh in because it was her b-day so maybe that will be good news for me. Yesterday was OP for me, but I didnt get any exercise in.

B- oatmeal with "carmel apple"
s- sf Jello pudding cup
l-Faux tato casserole
d- homemade chili
d- haystack cookie

Morning (for y'all... evening for me)

I was off progam most of the weekend but I did manage to get in all 6 exercise sessions for last week. I can do pretty well during the week but my weekends are just horrid. So, next weekend I am going to plan ahead and make some stuff that will keep me on program and not let DH in the kitchen.

Today's menu-
B- apple cinnamon fiber muffin, ff sf yogurt, coffee w/sweetner
S- none
L- grilled chicken salad, ff sf yogurt
S- ham & lf herbed cream cheese rolls
S- SF dark chocolate
D- Spaghetti squash with veggies & mozzarella
Dessert- SF jell-o

DH was in England last week so I had him search for some SF gelatin for me. he only found orange, but I love orange jell-o so I am soooo happy. Actually, I think my 6 yo is happier because she LOVES loves jell-o and will eat it non stop if I let her.

Rose - Thanks for the info. I need to see if I can find some because I don't sleep well... ever.

Tina - I'm back with ya, babe

Reg - oh, enjoy the apple farm. What fun!

Kelly - I really want you to win the challenge! What is the "carmel apple" in your oatmeal?

I played around in the kitchen this weekend and tried to come up with a fiber muffin recipe to use up the "bran sticks" cereal in my cabinet. I took our basic bean muffin recipe and substituted 95 grams of bran sticks, soaked them in 1/2 cup boiling water until all absorbed and mushy, then added the rest of the ingredients. I also chopped up a small apple and stirred it into the batter at the end. I got a total of 8 muffins and they are pretty darned good. Better if I would have put in raisins... but that is NOT OP. A few chopped nuts would have also been nice... and Kelly, I was thinking you could add some shredded carrots to your muffins in Phase 2 to make little carrot cake muffins... just use your cinnamon & nutmeg and stuff. Just an idea.

Good Idea Cookie on the muffins, I bought the stuff to make another batch this week, so perhaps I will try your carrot thing,I am sure a little shredded carrot wont hurt me and some cream cheese frosting on top would be killer!!
The "carmel apple" in my oatmeal was a little expeirment I made up yesterday. I took 1/2 of a green apple and peeled & sliced it very thin and then I added cinnamon, splenda and carmel Davincis syrup and a little maple flavoring, I cooked it in the microwave until the apple was soft, then I stirred it into my cooked oatmeal, it was good stuff!! Very filling as well, I made 1 serving and only ate 1/2 the bowl, I was stuffed.
FYI- Yesterday at the store I found Smuckers now makes SF carmel topping made with Splenda, I checked out the carbs and it wasnt that bad, but since I am doing the weight loss contest I didnt purchase it, but I was thinking that would be good in my oatmeal with my apples, but the other thing I made was good.

Hi all,

I had a good weekend, but ate off plan saturday before the game. We didn't tailgate, but went to a sports bar, had a few drinks and dinner. I ate OP yesterday but didn't workout. I was so exhausted from saturday. My best friend called me saturday morning at 7:30 and I couldn't get back to sleep, and I didn't to bed until 1am Sunday because our game was late. Yesterday was an emotional day, too. I found out that a family friend died. My best friend's child was baptized yesterday, too, which was a happy occassion but still emotional.

Eating OP today and plan to workout after work, then go home and relax. I'm looking forward to thursday. I am working 1/2 a day and then going to the mountains for the weekend.

Have a great day!

Morning Ladies... I'm marking my spot and having my morning coffee. Planning to eat clean all this week.

My family is going to meet at whitespot for our thanksgiving get together which is today. I'm planning on having a light tossed salad and some soup, since I had my thanksgiving dinner on sunday. The damage... I'm back at 171 pounds which is only a 2 lb gain and still I'm 20 pounds down from when I started SBD in april. I've been eating Fibre 1 cereal all week and it's been helping me stay OP and lose weight much faster then I'd usually lose.

Fibre is still very good for you and should be a part of our daily diet regime. Fibre 1 cereal has 14 grams of fibre per 1/2 cup serving. In an issue of women's world magazine... they were saying that having a limit of 35 grams of fibre daily will definiately help in losing weight. The women's world issue on Sept. 18 had 2 full pages featuring the south beach diet. It said that a breakthrough study from a top Boston hospital proved that people prone to belly fat would lose five times more weight on diets designed to control blood sugar such as the famous South Beach Diet than on traditional plans. Saying for every 10 pounds lost the low-fat way, you'd drop 50 pounds doing it the South Beach way. That's encouraging isn't it???

Cindy... thanks for the thanksgiving cheer!!! Well... it looks like I'm the only canadian here, but that's okay. This group is a wonderful bunch of Ladies and I won't give them up for anything.

Rose, Vfcookie, Tina, Reg, Kelly, Marsha, Jacqui, Pir8, Luvs, Jan, Heahyoo and those I missed!!!

Have a great Monday...

Hi Beachers!
How'd everyone do on the weekend challenge? No one seems to be posting their losses or gains from the weekend. The board was pretty quiet this weekend - seems like everyone had things going on. I gained 1/2 pound but I know it's water weight so I'm okay with it - my rings were snug going on this morning and they've been really loose lately. I drank a ton of water yesterday but ate like a pig - everything OP but just too much. I also made egg salad and put celery salt in it without thinking before I ate some so I'm sure the salt has something to do with my little gain. I also sat on my butt all day watching tv etc. I didn't do any housework either - just mixed up a few recipes. I had nothing off plan and feel good about that! Tonight is my first time adding a sweet potato into my diet - there should be no issues right?

Tammy - Glad your weekend went well. How'd you do on the challenge?

Dani - you are just rocking this thing aren't you? Congrats!

Jan - I'd go with Fajitas - either steak or chicken - just pass on the tortillas. Add salsa and sour cream - yummy!

Kelly - what size is the can of beans? I completely forgot to make the bean brownie recipe while DH was camping this weekend. He's going again in Nov so I'll try to remember then. Congrats on holding steady over the weekend.

Jacqui - Sorry to hear about your job - I'm sure it's for the best and will work out okay for you!

Ericha thanks for the sleep info - I'll check it out.

Cindy - sorry GB lost - Pats won and are 5-0! WOOHOO!

Reg - I was thinking about nsa applesauce - I used to use it as substitute all the time - but was concerned about the carbs even tho it's nsa. I'm sure the small amount used divided into individual servings it wouldn't be an issue tho. We do BBQ pretty late here too but he doesn't like to go out in the snow and frigid cold to do it.

What I posted for yesterday --- what I actually ate (for accountability)
B: Fiber one cereal / splenda / 1/2 banana / 1% milk / coffee etc.---- same
L: 1/2 Chicken caesar salad / 1% milk ---- same
S: banana nut flax muffin ----8 cocoa meringues / 1 apple / 1/4 c egg salad
D: Steak / salad / 1% milk ----- 3 chicken fingers / nsa pasta sauce /1% milk
S: Blue bunny nsa bar ----- same
Throw in all tastings while mixing up recipes

Today's menu:
B: cheese omelet / tea
S: 2 SF sour candies
L: taco salad
S: banana nut flax muffin / lc meringue cookies
D: steak / sweet potato / 1% milk
Workout and lots of water!

Have a great day Beachers!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm up two pounds today.

Also, I tried to post saturday morning but the server was down. I made pumpkin flaxseed waffles saturday morning. They were SO good. Much better than the regular flax seed waffles I made the week before.

As far as my Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins, the only reason that "muffin" is in the title is because I made them in a muffin pan. It really is cheesecake. I've been enjoying eating those as a snack.

Ok, back to work.

Happy Thanksgiving, Tammy!

Hey Beachers!

Haven't been able to get in here as I would have liked to. I really want to get to know you all.

Work is crazy. Still on plan and feeling good.

Kelly - I saw the SF caramel topping too! Looks good. But not yet for me anyway.

Question: do these muffins that have beans in them, taste like beans? or do they have that starchy texture? Enlighten me, please. Don't like beans all that much, but these muffins look interesting.

Tammy - Happy Thanksgiving!!

I made pumpkin spice cheesecake muffins. Yum. Even my kids liked them.

A quick post:

I made chicken chili yesterday and the cans of white beans are about 15 oz.

PIR8 - I figured out about the muffin/cheesecake after I posted - boy, is that stuff good! I want to double it next time and do it in a pie pan/cake plate thingy. I enjoyed three for breakfast and have three for another time!!!

Hi's and Hugs to everyone else popping in today!

Good afternoon guys! I wanted to write in earlier but I have been sooo busy this morning, unfortunately I don't have the day off. I am very proud to report that I woke up early this morning and finally hit the gym! I did a 1/2 hour on the treadmil, and then using free weights for my arms, so about a 45-50 min workout altogether. I actually really liked it, it was a great way to start the day, I was wide awake when I got into work, and I think working out early sets the tone for the rest of the day, I worked hard and want to eat clean so that my early workout was for nothing, lol!

As for the weekend challenge, it was a bust for me this time around. I was up two pounds this morning, I'm sure it was due to the evil popcorn last night and the ham for dinner, so hopefully a lot of it is water weight that will come right off. Hey, a girl can hope, right??

Reg - What is this cheesecake yogurt you speak of? It sounds delish!

Tammy - Love that info on losing weight using SBD, thank! Very encouraging stuff! Happy Thanksgiving!

Pir8 - Right there with you on the 2lbs! Don't worry though, they will slide right off!

Hi's to everyone else I missed!

Have a great day!

Hi, Beachers!

Thanks for the info on the Mexican restaurant. I will stay away from the starchy things and stick to the "insides" of the fajita instead.

I am "low" on will power lately; that's why I have not been posting regularly. I HAVE to lose weight for several reasons having to do with my health. I really believe in this way of eating and I am determined to go for it. As I have said before, I don't have an alternative. My doctor recommended this WOE to me in April and I started then. I seem to try and "fool" myself into thinking that I am sticking to a diet even when I am not! I convince myself that if having one of something is OK, then having six is Ok too! Just who do I think I am fooling???

I commend all of you who are doing well! I KNOW I can do it! When I really stick to the rules, I lose fast! (I must admit, however, that I am about "saladed out"!!! I was on Jenny Craig before this and I had eaten a salad every day for months and months! ) I have begun to drink V8 and to make cole slaw just to break it up.

I started around when Tammy started and I should have lost around the same as she has or even more considering that I weigh a lot more than Tammy. Tammy, you are an inspiration! Happy Thanksgiving!

Maybe what I really need to do is put my weight on my stats so I can see it every day. I also need to STOP weighing myself every day and limit it to once a week.

Thank you all for letting me rant! Maybe I also need to stop the pity party!

Be back tomorrow!

Jan

Hi again... I had a better day with food. I had my usual cup of fibre 1 cereal and then had 1 large tea for lunch, then when my family met at whitespot, I ordered a teriaki rice bowl and had 2 diet cokes. But had no dessert!!! Then when I got home I had 2 couple slices of LF cheddar, 1 small tangerine and vegetable plate. That's all I've had today and I'm proud of myself. I'm going to eat clean for all of this week. It'll be a short work week and I know those 2 pounds will be gone for good very soon, thanks.

Jan... it's good to vent and get things off your chest. I have to do that once in awhile too. I'm glad I inspired you. I didn't think I'd inspired anyone and I'm thankful that I have. You know I've never given up on you girlfriend. You're always in my thoughts and prayers, and I knew that when you were ready, you'd come back and do what's best for you and your health. You go girl!!!

to all you Ladies and thanks for all the happy thanksgiving blessings. There's a lot I'm thankful for this season and I'm glad I could share them with you. Take care.

God BLess...
