It does get confusing. You'll get the drift of them pretty fast. In general:DH, DS, DD, - Dear Husband, Son, Daughter, SB - South Beach P1, P2, P3 - Phase 1, 2, or 3 KUTGW - Keep up the good work! IMO and IMHO - In My Opinion, and In My Humble Opinion ITA - I Totally Agree Those are probably the most common ones, since I remembered them off the top of my head. ![]() Quote:

Just a quick check in!
Tina, your kids are so cute! How's the back to school routine going? Did I exercise today? Yes, 20 minutes of Pilates Did I eat sugar? NO Did I eat in my window? Yes, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 4:30. Had a turkey cobb salad and some homemade bread with real butter at lunch and a burger with cheese and a potato for dinner. Got to go...my brother is calling me tonight to discuss our plans for our other brother's wedding (in California!) in October!! |

First Day not too bad
Well I am done eating for today. Not too bad. I must say that a highlight of starting today was reading these posts. I loved seeing your daily menus for ideas to keep it fun. And I love the supposrt you guys you show the others. I can't wait to be successful and tell you all. I am taking this day by day and want to lose something before school (1 week). I don't want to be the fat teacher, fat Mom, fat neighbor. I want to be that chem teacher with the big brown eyes, the greatest Mom ever, that neighbor that is kind. I am glad that I found this site and I am really looking forward to growing smaller!!!

Hi Ladies... I know it late but I had to post and let you guys know how I'm doing. My appetite is back with avengence... but I'm keeping it under control. Don't really know why... or what I really want... just have this empty void in my stomach. So... after I finish posting I'm having a hot cut of 2% milk with splenda and then hopping into bed. That should do the trick.
Melroseep... post as often as you like. We're a friendly and supportive group of Ladies... who will help you get ahead start on your SB journey and become successful. Take care... and good luck!!! Jacqui... you've come to the right place. We're here to support you in any way we can. Share a bit about yourself... and post as often as you like. We're here for you. Tina... your kids are darling!!! It's okay if they don't want to smile for the camera... they're cute anyways. Rose... thanks for the definitions. Mel your not the only one... I only knew half of them and I just learned a few more thanks to Rose. Neesie... thanks for the taco recipe. All this talk about taco salads has gotten me thinking... that I'm missing something... tacos!!! ![]() Jan... you can do it!!! You have the tools and the know how... so get on that wagon... take charge and go with it. You're worth it... I know you have what it takes girlfriend. I'm cheering for you!!! Take care. ![]() ![]() mygems... you'll benefit from reading the book and familiarizing yourself with the SB plan. You'll also notice that many of us are on SB modified plans... and that okay because it works for us. And we've all found a way that works for us individually... which complies with the SBD program. Take care. vfcookie... I was wondering the same thing. Are you american and learning the france culture? Just curious... girlfriend. I would love to have the gutts... to learn a new culture. How exciting... the french people are well known for their healthy way of eating and drinking. There's not too many who have a weight problem... although I could be wrong in saying so. You take care. Dani... your welcome. It must be quite a challenge to work with students... especially when you find that they're pregnant. Good to hear that one of your students is moving further in her education... you must really inspire them. Rita... I have days like that when TOM is holding water... and my weight seems to not move. It will pass... and then you'll see the results. That's what I like after TOM is gone... good weightloss results. Hang in there. Hey Kellies... since there's two of you... I suggest you both pick nicknames or call yourselves kellyA and KellyB. Whatever works... just so we know who's kelly is who's... okay? ![]() all you wonderful beachers... you make a great group!!! KUTGW!!! ![]() Well... it late and I'm tired... time for bed. You all have a good night!!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ![]()

history
I had a lovely post and my computer locked and deleted it.
Sorry I never gave y'all any background about me. Yep, I am definitely American as evidenced by the fact that I say y'all and can even spell it. I am originally from Oklahoma and have 3 kids ages 18, 13, & 6. My gorgeous husband is French and we moved to france 3 1/2 years ago. (if you recall, that was around the beginning of the Iraq war and Americans weren't being very nice to the French). SO, now I work here as a bilingual secretary/receptionist, though my background is in accounting... just have to find a french company willing to hire me and teach me french accounting. I have tons of exercise DVD's, used to take bellydancing classes, and have owned practically every diet book every written. I have tried most every diet except for Jenny Craig and Medifast but that is only cause the cost of shipping the food to france is too expensive. I think perhaps SB will be the one that finally clicks with me. So, now I want to hear about everyone else. What's your story???

pic of DH
A pic of my DH... just to prove he really is gorgeous. I brag about him all the time. My goal... I want my husband to brag about me as much as I brag about him. (maybe he does... but he sees something when he looks at me that I don't see... I want to learn to see myself through his eyes.)

Tinatina - Great pic!! My daughter starts school September 6th, she is very excited and daily tells me that she misses school. (The joys of going into Grade 1!)
VfCookie - your husband is gorgeous but so are you! You have a great smile! Well I'm down 1.2 pounds and I just started this plan on Monday! I am beyond thrilled with it. I cannot believe how much my appetite has disappeared. I have no urge to snack between meals at all. We're off to Saskatchewan tomorrow to visit family & between my neice's birthday party and my SIL's Baby Shower I am a bit concerned - but I plan to go grocery shopping as soon as we get there and buy food I can eat, as well as make some Vegetable Quiche cups to take with me. Breakfast - 2 hardboiled eggs Snack - Cashews if needed Lunch - turkey wrap on lettuce and cheese stick Snack - if I don't eat the cashew's in the am I'll eat them now Dinner - Not too sure yet, salmon maybe?

Morning Beachers!
Glad to hear all the newbies are so motivated and us vets are doing so well!!! OP yesterday, but discovered these little jello with fruit thingy's I bought have LESS sugar, not NO Sugar! Oh well, they were only 60 cals and I could have made a worse choice, right? I guess the remaining two will go to DD's!!! Not walking this morn as it's raining.....hard to make that call though - my friend and I were trying to determine how to let each other know if it's not pouring...... ![]() Today is busy and am already wishing it were 8 tonight....work, then right to cut and color ( ), then home to gather my stuff, then to the High School for open house. All DD and I do is get her schedule; she doesn't really need to meet the teachers at this point (she will be a senior) and neither do I.....but I need to stay and stand at parent club table! I guess after 7 years at the high school, and all the years before, I am SO ready to be done.Cookie - your husband is cute, but so are you? You have an 18 year old? You don't look like it! My DD would love to talk to you; she has studied French for 5 years in MS/HS and wants to go to France so bad!!!Tammy - just hang in with your apetite - it's just back after being sick for so long! Tina - great shot of your cute kids!! Melrose - great goals is right! ![]() Hi's to the rest of you and hope you have a great day! ETA: My friend showed up to walk; we ended up getting a good 15 minutes in before it started to pour! ![]()

Good Morning Beach Buds!
Thanks for the compliments on the kiddies. I think they're great but I'm a little biased! Don't mind the pizza box you see on the table! Cindy - Good for you for getting part of your walk in! I hope you didn't get too wet! I just started walking again on Monday! Its hard to go back when you stop, but I feel so much better when I'm doing it! mygems - Thank You! My DD7 started second grade on Monday. She was happy to go back. This morning though she was crying that she didn't want to go. I think me and DH upset her routine. I am the one that usually got them up and ready to go. Now DH does that since I have to be at work at 7:30 am. She doesn't adjust to change well. Cookie - Your DH is cute, but so are you! You have a great smile! Tammy - Thanks! Taco salads are the BOMB! They are soooooo good. I am having one for lunch today. I make the meat mixture and then freeze it in individual servings so I can have one whenever I want it. mmmmm mmmmmm Melrose - You are already all those things you want to be. Now you just want to lose some weight to go with it! And your right this site is wonderful and very motivational. Rachel - Thanks! We are still trying to get into a routine. Hopefully things will smooth out soon! You are going to look so great for your brothers wedding in October! Neesie - How'd your Sox do? My taco salads pretty much mirror yours. I them.![]() to everyone else out there!menu: b - scrambled egg/wcanadian bacon l - taco salad s - cottage cheese d - unsure? I'll check back in later!

Good Morning Beach Buddies,
I put on a pair of pants today that are actually loose!! I wore these a few weeks ago to the movies and they were tight then, so even though the scale isnt showing much of a loss, I guess I can tell from my clothes. I think I am going to try and do phase 1 today, because it seems since I went to phase 2, I havent lost anything, and in fact I gained 2 pds back, so my body must really hate carbs lol. Last night I have 2 mini WW wraps from SB, they were turkey bacon club, very good I must say. But I need to see the scale moving more, I have a ton of weight to lose still. So I plan to eat phase 1 from today till Tuesday on the weigh in at work. Its going to be hard friday, my family is going to the State Fair, all the goodies will be hard to resist, but I know I can do it. I will pack some stuff in my purse. Have a great day everyone Kelly E. |

KellyE - A small gain is normal when transitioning from P1 to P2. I think Dr. A talked about it in the book. I know a couple of our posters have experienced it also. But if you keep going on P2 your weight will start dropping again. I'm not critisizing, just thought I'd mention it. Have a great time at the fair on Friday.

Good morning, Beachers!
Sounds like everyone is doing well. I had a good first day on P2. I incorporated 1/2 a grapefruit and a LC WW wrap, which I used to make a pizza!! It was pretty good and definitely something different. I'll post the recipe on the recipe board. My weight did not change from yesterday. TOM finally started and I'm not feeling so hot today. Hopefully I'll have a whoosh in a couple days. That usually happens. I find that I am not having to force myself to workout anymore. It's becoming routine again, which is good. I'm helping with a youth retreat this weekend and am determined not to eat off plan. I am going to take some of my own food in a cooler to supplement, but the food that has been served in the past is relatively SB friendly. Have a great day!

Just a quick check in before I wake up my daughter!
Kelly, it's normal to go up a little when transitioning between P1 and P2. But then you should start losing again. The only time I gained (about a pound) was during the transition week between those two phases. Cookie, he's very adorable, but you are beautiful, too. I bet you make a stunning couple!! My super-fast story: I am a single mom, about to turn 41. I work as a senior writer for a magazine publishing company and write books and magazine articles. I have a daughter who is 9 and who just started fourth grade, and I've been dating a guy named Wade since June (that's a big deal for me, I haven't met anyone I've really liked in the 4 years since my divorce.) I live in a suburb of Salt Lake City (grew up in the Midwest and went to Kansas University...got transferred out here with my ex husband.) Best wishes for a great day all! Rachel P.S. Couldn't get myself going this morning, but I made myself do 10 minutes of jumping on the trampoline. Some is better than none, right?

Hi guys! Thanks for the warm welcome! I too am guilty of weighing in every day, but I really think it helps me stay on track. I stayed exactly the same this morning as yesterday, it is that TOM for me, so I think that may be why I haven't seen a loss in a few days. I'm not gaining though either, so that makes me feel ok.
Neesie - I am from Peabody, MA, which is on the North Shore of Boston, right next to Salem. Joseph's Pitas have 8 carbs per pita, 4 grams of fiber. I only eat half of one for a meal, so I only count 4 carbs, and they are super delish! They also make tortillas that are low carb as well, and just as good. Last night, I went out to eat with my boyfriend and his family, I had a ceasar salad with grilled salmon and it was yum, and on plan! I don't think I mentioned this yet, but I have a feeling we will be getting engaged any day now, and we've already kind of settled on having our wedding next Aug/Sept, so I must admit that that has been my primary motivator for starting and sticking to the SB diet!! I'm very excited, and while I know its a year away, I wanted to get a jump start on losing weight. My menu for today: B - 2 quiche cups (1egg and 1turkey sausage in each) S - yogurt and 15 almonds L - Grilled chicken caesar salad from Panera, no croutons! D - I'm thinking of making broiled salmon and green beans, but that may change Have a great day everyone!! |

Hi Everyone!
![]() This is long as usual - sorry! Just had a fire drill while in the middle of writing this post. I hate that! Thanks goodness it's a gorgeous day out - sometimes they do it when it's raining out - ugh!For all the newbies, here's my story: I am married for 27 years, have a DD age 26 and DS 22 who have both moved back home after college. We moved to Maine in the summer of 04 from NH and before that we grew up in Mass. We plan on this being our lifetime home. We have 2 dogs (obviously). I work as a customer service rep for the biggest health insurance company in the world - you know the one - it's "blue". I am a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. Was on atkins back in 99 and lost about 25 pounds which I quickly managed to put back on (and then some) when I hit a point where I just couldn't maintain the strictness of the diet. I've actually half-heartedly tried to do Atkins at various points since then but it never really got off the ground. I hit an all time high of 186 around the holidays and moved up to a size 16 jeans - that did it for me. I enjoyed the holidays eating what I wanted knowing I would start a new plan on Jan 2. I had been a member of this site when on Atkins and came back to see if any revisions had been made that would make the diet easier to stick to. I saw the South Beach link and checked it out. I started the plan on Jan 2. 07. I also started exercising at work starting with a brief walk on breaks and lunch. I then joined the company gym in April when I felt I needed more of a challenge. That brings us to today with a 32 pound loss since Jan 2. ![]() My goal is to lose a total of 52 pounds, or be in a size 6 - whichever comes first. If I can't comfortably maintain the 6 I'll be happy with size 8. I'm never going back to 16! I know that I can do this plan for the rest of my life and plan on being a lifetime member of this board. Tina - how cute! They don't look too excited but I bet you were! The Sox lost - an ex Red Sox who is now a Yankee hit the winning 2 run homer - the traitor! But tonight is our best pitcher against Roger Clemons - another Red Sox turncoat! Melrose - you can do it! We're rooting for you! ![]() Tammy - Maybe you 'think" you're so hungry cause you were eating so lite while you were sick and now that you feel better your body is ready to go back to the way you were eating before you got sick. In other words you're not hungrier now than you were then, but you were less hungry when you were sick. Does that make sense? I'm sure mister right is out there somewhere for you. Maybe you'll meet him soon - who knows? Cookie - Hubby is a HOTTIE! And so are you! I'm sure he appreciates what's inside just as much as outside - which if really fantastic. Sarah - just a suggestion - take food with you that you can have on the go and have something to eat in the car on the way to the parties. If you're not so hungry going in you won't be as tempted to eat off plan - just like not going grocery shopping hungry. Oh- and congrats on the loss! ![]() Cindy - how many carbs in "the little fruity things"? I'd think most of them would be from the fruit itself? I hear you about wanting the school thing to be over but if she's going to college there's still more to come. Good luck with that! ![]() Kelly E. - Have you been measured yet? Sometimes the scale doesn't move but my inches do - muscle gain hopefully? ANyway, it's nice to get that NSV (non-scale victory) every once in a while. I get measured monthly at the gym here at work which is this Friday. Keep your fingers crossed. ![]() Rachel - how was DD's first day? She must be excited to see old friends again. Trust me, you will look fantastic for the wedding - you already do! By the way - what ever happened with the new job? ![]() Pir8 - have fun on your outing. Good idea to pack your own goodies. You've been working so hard at this it would be a shame to see all that go to "waist". ![]() Okay - this post is long enough. Today's menu: B: cheese omelet / tea / coffee on the drive in L: Salad / chicken breast / dressing S: Mocha cream / SF Cool Whip if needed D: Cheeseburgers - no bun for me. S: SF Fudgesicle No workout today - I take Wednesdays off / Drinking lots of H2O though. Will stop back in tonight - new goal is to check in 2x a day - it really seems to give me more motivation! ![]() Have a great day everyone neesie

I'm baaaaaack!
![]() Just finished my taco salad lunch! I forgot the sour cream! Oh, well, it was still DELISH! I am drinking tons of water yesterday and today. Feeling thirsty all of the time. Thank goodness for the new Brita! I found a new recipe on the recipe thread that might be good if you need a *sugar* fix. 1 tsp cocoa powder 1 box SF jello (your favorite flavor) I'm gonna use raspberry 1/4 c. SF vanilla davincis 1 3/4 c. hot water mix until melted, refrigerate until set up. The thread said that the cocoa doesn't really melt and kinda settles at the bottom but was still very good. Also gonna try some recipes with cabbage in them. I'm don't want to get bored so I'm trying to make sure I am having a variety of stuff. I purchased some dreamfields pasta at my local krogers, it is on sale 2 for $4. Has anyone else had it? TOM is running rampant around here. Mine started this morning. I am hoping for a whoosh near the end! ![]() |

Cindy - I don't have an exact recipe, what I did was cook up 12 turkey sausage breakfast links. I then cut them up and distributed them into a 12 muffin pan. I sprinkled some reduced fat cheddar cheese on top, then scrampbled 12 eggs and poured them into each cup, baked in the oven until they looked done.
They are a little small, so I eat two for breakfast, but before those I was eating a 4oz yogurt and it just wasn't enough. These are so much better and easy to take to work. I'm thinking of making them with some veggies insteaad for next week. |

Thanks for the info everyone about transitioning from phase 1 to phase 2. I hope it will start moving down again, I am just going to skip dessert tonight and I am not having fruit or grain today. I am going to make that lemon torte though and maybe try a slice tomorrow.

Taking a quick break at lunch here, since I am not really taking a lunch today due to leaving early for my hair! YAY!
Today so far: I always have a cup of coffee in the morning at home, then eat breakfast at work along with one other cup of coffee....therefore 2 cups of coffee! Bfast: 2 cups of coffee 1/2 c rf cottage cheese, blueberries and splenda Snack: 1 HB egg w/mustard and rf mayo Lunch: LO grilled chicken breast, italian green beans with wine vinegar and evoo, V8 Snack: Piece of String cheese Dinner - not sure as it will be on the go between hair and High school open house!!! Neesie - I know DD is headed off to college and there is more to come! I know though that I won't have to be or choose to be in any parent clubs there! ![]() Also, what is a mocha cream? Sounds like it would be up my alley!! The fruity jello things were 60 cals, 14 carbs! They were good though with a dollop of cool whip!Jacqui - thanks for the *recipe*! I LOVE sausage like that. Also find that I have to mix up my breakfasts too or I get bored. I think I wanna make those for next weeks bfasts!!! Tina - thanks for the recipe too - I ALWAYS need something sweet at night. This is about the point where I really can fall off the wagon and refuse to this time......I am a lifetime WW who has done Atkins too, like Neesie, but have found that SB combines what I like about both programs and is so much more manageable for me! I think I am at a good weight right now, so just wanna keep doing what I am doing and see what happens. I am averaging 2 grains and 2 fruits about 5 days a week, but am still feeling a little guilty when I am eating the grains! ![]() ok, now I have gone on long enough (Neesie - your posts are never too long and I enjoy them!). Back to work! Last edited by Radmom413; 08-29-2007 at 11:58 AM.. |

Just for everyones curosity, I will tell a little about myself. I am 29 yrs old and I have 2 boys, ages 8yrs and 6 months. I am on my second marriage, hence the huge age gap between my kids. I just graduated college with my bachelors degree in HR Managment and I am starting my Masters in finance next month. I am looking at moving into a career in the banking industry. I currently work for a national telephone company in a call center, not my dream job, but I have been here 8 yrs and they pay me pretty well, so that makes it hard to leave, plus all the vacation time I have acrewed.
Anyway, we live in Oregon near Mt. Hood, we purchased our first home a couple years ago and are constantly making changes and remodeling it, hoping to sell it for a nice profit in the next couple years and have something brand new built. My husband works for Home Depot at the Professional Desk and loves it. We have 1 dog and 2 cats and my son has a fish. We love to travel, my avitar pic is me in Paris last year. I also love to scrapbook and watch movies and play tennis. Anyway, I am done blabbing now lol. Kelly E. |

It is so nice to read about what everyone does, where they live, their kids, if they have them or even furbabies!!
My DH and I have been married 26 years next month - along with our anniversary, my bday is on 9/26, so I September!!! We have two DD's; #1 is 20 and will start her junior yr in college majoring in Broadfield Language Arts and minoring in Education. DD #2 is a high school senior this year, so we are doing the college visits this fall....her DBF goes off to college tomorrow.....she is sad, but happy at the same time! We also have a 2 year old shih tzu named Chloe who is part human! I am a college recruiter and our DDs both, work part time at the college I work at, so it's nice, because sometimes, during the school year, I get to see them! I am busy with high school parent club, shopping, reading, boating, and bike (motorcyle) riding with DH! |

Hi, All,
Neesie, thank you for the recipe. I actually have made that often, but always on a soft burrito! I thought maybe there was something I could be doing but was not. In fact, I like sour cream and guacamole on mine also!I went to an all-girls high school also. No problem with getting dressed for the guys, so, as I said, I liked wearing a uniform! Yep, green plaid skirt and blazer in the winter, and a "shirtwaist" dress - pastel, of course - in the warmer months! On the dresses we could get pink, blue, green, or yellow pastel. Luckily these were "wash and wear", no ironing! Have been staying pretty much Op. Have been losing VERY slowly, so, hopefully, no saggy skin! I try to look on the bright side of everything! ![]() "See" you all later! Jan |

daily check in...
B- quiche cups + ff plain yogurt with vanilla sweetner L- taco soup + ff plain yogurt with vanilla sweetner S- 1 babybel & V8 D- roast chicken, steamed broccoli dessert- ricotta with cocoa, sweetner & walnuts Ok, I am not lovin this ricotta dessert thing. I finally added a tiny bit of lf milk to make it a bit more creamy. Maybe it is an acquired taste. I am getting more comfortable with this way of eating, you just have to be willing to try new things. I still want to try the ricotta with cinnamon & nutmeg. Oh well, if I don't like the ricotta, I can always just flavor the FF plain yogurt for desserts. Jillian - I finally took your advice and started trying to get in some dairy today. I don't know how it will affect any weight loss, but I did feel better today. Cindy - send your daughter on over! Hey, my birthday is Sept 29!!! My fave month! Kelly E - Where in Paris did you take the pic? Maybe I can visit it this weekend. Tell me, if you only had one day in Paris, what is the one thing you would go see? (we are going to do the Batobus so that we can see everything major during the little boat cruise, but what should we take the time to actually get off the boat and visit? I'm thinkin Notre Dame.) I am also on marriage 2, but all my kids are 6 years apart cause... well that's just how they came for me. Thanks so much for the sharing your stories. I love feeling connected to people whenever possible. Thanks also for the kind comments about my honey and me. I would love to reply to everyone but it is time to get kiddos off to bed. I agree w/you Cindy! I like learning more about the daily posters!
I think I shared some info about me when I first started posting to this thread a few weeks ago, but for the newbies I'll fill you in too. ![]() I am 27 years old and live in Central Massachusetts w/my DH and our tabby cat, Lily. I am in my 5th year of teaching high school English/Language Arts. I work for a public district but in the smaller alternative setting for students who have been labeled "at risk" for dropping out of school. In my sparetime I love practicing yoga, traveling (especially up to Canada and the Caribbean), and maybe this is a little odd for someone my age, but I also enjoy video games. My DH bought me a Nintendo Wii for my b-day in July. And, it's also good stress relief after work. ![]() Today's Menu: B: coffee, eggs, and turkey bacon L: salad with chicken breast S: string cheese D: chicken sausage and summer squash saute S: sf fudgesicle Jacqui, those quiche cups sound yummy! I think I'll be making some next week for b-fast!
