Morning!
Off for my walk shortly..... But first....GERMAN! There you are! Welcome back! And yes, you can have v-8! Ate very clean yesterday and got two walks in. I feel like I am doing well and may even still be losing a little, but am not obsessing about it. Kelly w/2babies (With two Kelly's here, we need nicknames). I don't weigh ever!! I got obsessed by the scale years ago, and it wasn't a good thing. Alot of the gals here weigh once a week and have a weigh in day. Sarah - yep - check the stickies; great info and ALL you need!!! Tammy - glad you are on the mend! Hi's to the rest of you.....I am off for my walk. I will peek in later!

Good Morning Beach Buds!
I didn't have time to get on yesterday evening, so no pics of kiddies posted. Maybe this evening?? Time just flies in the evening. Dinner, exercise, clean-up and it was almost 9 pm. (That was bedtime for me! )I walked last night again FINALLY! 35 min. I plan on walking again tonight, and tomorrow, and the next night, and the next night. . . ![]() Dinner last night ended up being taco salads instead of whatever I posted. They were soooo good. I'll check back in at lunchtime and here's my menu for today. b - scrambled egg w/canadian bacon l - chicken, cheese, salsa in a light flatout wrap, SB coleslaw s - lc yogurt, berries d - not sure yet

A quick good morning, friends!
![]() Akmd and German, welcome back! Kelly, I combine SB Phase 2-3 with a plan called Intermittent Fasting or Fast-5. I have a tendency to tweak every plan I'm on, so don't ever follow my menus! I did do SBD by the diet to lose my initial weight. I call South Beach my "home base" because I always know it's a good place to return.Coffee's brewed! ![]() Oh, on the scale question: I used to be obsessive about it, so I gave mine away. Then I started weighing on a scale away from my home (once a week) and then I got to the point where I was wanting to see my daily weight for curiousity reasons. So, I do weigh daily, but I don't get upset if I don't lose or if I gain.

Well, last work day before vacation starts!
![]() The new bedroom furniture looks great BUT the paint we just finished looks way too yellow. It was supposed to be gold . I'll live with it for a while and see what happens. Hey all! This will be real quick because I have to teach class soon.
P1 is over! On to P2, and!! I am down 1.5 pounds this morning, so I lost 10.5 pounds in two weeks during P1. Yay!! I met my goal .I've set a new goal. I want to lose at least 10 pounds by Sept. 30th. If I continue to lose at a pace faster than 2 lbs a week, I may change that. I'm gonna go have 1/2 a grapefruit for my snack, then I am off to class. See you later, losers !

Where do I start?????
I have been trying to do SB for a bit now and need to focus. I lost 20plus pounds last summer and then had a rough year and gained back 15. I have been away for most of the summer and didn't gain lately. I like the feeling I get with my body without the major carbs so SB works well. This morning I started with 3 pieces of turkey bacon and a poached egg. BUT-- where do I start here to find that support that I need to sustain a mental image to lose weight and be successfull?

Good Morning Beachers,
Well I have lost 1 pd of the 2 that I was up, today was the weigh in at work for the Biggest Loser and I am in 3rd place now. Maybe next week will be better I can only hope. The 2nd place gal is doing the starvation diet, I dont know how long she can keep that up, its not smart and sad that she would do that to herself just to win some money, but some people will do anything for money. She is clearly doing it for the wrong reasons. Anyway, my menu today is this : B- quiche w/ broccoli and candian bacon s- v-8 l- mexicali bake over salad s- string cheese d- Chicken caesar salad d- sf.ff banana pudding Kelly |

Hi Beachers!
![]() I found this info interesting so here's a little article for you: Question: How do you get rid of excess skin from weight loss or prevent this problem from happening? Expert Answer: Extra skin on the belly, arms or legs is a concern for individuals who have a large amount of weight to lose. This extra skin experience seems to happen more in people who lose a large amount of weight in a relatively short period of time. "Special creams" really do not work and can border on being rip-offs. However, you can use a good moisturizer to hydrate the skin. It takes longer for the skin to "shrink" than to lose the weight. In most cases, when you are losing weight slowly and consistently (about 1-2 pounds a week), the skin will naturally "shrink" so to speak, along with the loss of fat. So you'll need to give it some time. Exercise with weights, which helps to tone your muscles, can also help with the skin. Thank goodness I have tons of creams from Bath and Body Works! Love that stuff! Everyone is talking about taco salad and I can't resist anymore. It's on todays menu for dinner - Yummy! Mel - - boy have you come to the right place for support. We are all very supportive of each other in both South Beach and life so jump right in and post away. Post as often as you like and ask as many questions as you want. We're all here to help! Good Luck! ![]() Kelly - its nice that your boss noticed - congrats! I totally hear you about the scale obsession - I'm one of those too. I try really hard to weigh myself only 2x a week (tho many would say even that is too much). I weigh on Saturday for the "official weigh in". I then weigh again on Monday to see if I've done any damage over the weekend that I have to work extra hard to repair during the week. It's very hard for me not to pull out the scale everyday. Try stating that as goal in your signature - sometimes making that kind of commitment to changing a habit makes it easier to accomplish. Hey Rachel - didn't get a chance to log onlast night and see DDs pic. My kids went to private school for a while and had uniforms. It made getting them dressed easier but I hated the ironing! Jeanni - Welcome Back! ![]() Cookie - I like the Firm videos. I have a few on VHS that I haven't been able to use because my tape player is giving me problems. I'm thinking of getting them all on DVD soon. I'll have to check that one out. ![]() Hey German - welcome back! Gald to see you had a good time on your vacation. No offense to Florida but I could not live there - way too hot down there for this girl. Pir8 - I know you were on P1 but MY GOODNESS - what exactly were you eating and where can I get me some! Way To Go! ![]() and to anyone I missedToday's menu: B: cheese omelet / tea L: Salad / chicken / dressing D: Taco salad (no taco for me or DD) S: SF Fudgesicle Worked out again this morning and drinking the H20! Will try and touch base tonight. Neesie

HI everyone! I've been lurking here for a while, asking questions here and there but I wanted to get in on the daily post. I've been doing SB for almost one month, phase 1 the whole time and lost 11.5 pounds so far. I have quite a bit to lose, but I'm happy with this start.
I'm nervous about adding carbs to my diet, I have so much weight to lose that I don't want to slow it down, but I did find some amazing low carb pita pockets by Joseph's that I have sandwiches in once in a while. I think I'm just going to take baby steps in adding back carbs. I work well when I have a lot of variety at my fingertips, so I don't get bored or feel deprived. I made some quiches in muffin tins last night with turkey sausage, eggs and cheese, so I can have something to eat at work in the mornings. The yogurt wasn't cutting it, lol! I just have to say that you guys are a great inspriration, and I love coming here everyday to check in. My menu for today: B - 2 quiche cups S - Yogurt L - Salad with steak tips and low sugar italian dressing S - 15 almonds D - ?? Not sure yet, but definitely on plan Have a great day everyone! Jacqui |

Lots of great news and advice.PIR - 10.5 lbs is awesome! ![]() I need to get my weight moving down again! Marsha - the yellow/gold paint is a tough one. German -
back! And thanks for visiting the US! Hope you had a grand time and sounds like you were lucky in your trip to Florida and missed any hurricaine weather. 'Tis the season down there.Kelly - don't sweat the scale... I'm gonna have to teach myself the same lesson... didn't you mention TOM was coming? I am pretty sure it's my problem too... due any day and my scale hasn't moved more than .5 lbs in days... I woke up crampy this morning so I'm hoping he'll arrive soon so I can see the scale move. Thing is I FEEL thinner today... hoping that's a good sign! PIR8 - can I just say GREAT START GIRL!! Enjoy your grapefruit!Since we have two Kelly's here I can be KellyB if you guys want to do that... my last name starts with B... Here's my menu today: B = 1 hb egg and 2 links turkey sausage S = celery with 1 wedge laughing cow light cheese (love this stuff!) L = some sort of salad with grilled chicken strips (these are great - ready to go by Tyson) S = probably celery again with 2 tbsp peanut butter this time D = will be hamburger steak, green beans and a big ol salad! S- SF fudgesicle!! Going to the store today to stock up... need tomato juice or V8 so I can have something with breakfast. I have decided that I will defintely add two more days to Ph 1 - given my wine over the weekend and the fact the TOM is coming... I want to see the scale down 10lb BEFORE starting Ph 2. So there's my first short goal. HEy - has anyone tried the Wu Long Tea?? My girlfriend drinks it daily and swears by it. I just ordered some... it's pricey but worth a shot. Did I mention that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this board?? You're all great!! I've never been so excited to be a part of a bunch of LOSERS!! ![]() I think I'll do a short walk tonight with my mom and take the boys to the park... only about a mile round trip, but it's something. And always helps me feel better when TOM is looming. Have a great SB day!

Bonsoir, mesdames.
German - it's so nice to have someone in my time zone! Marsha - have a great vacation. Rachel - I was wondering the same thing about your 5 hour window thing, so thanks for the info. PIR8 - major congrats on the 10.5 lbs! Jacqui - hi there and well done you on the 11.5 lbs. I'm really REALLY new here. Just started the other day. Neesie - I had heard that about skin... same thing for stretch marks. I heard that your skin is either elastic or it's not and no cream will make it what it isn't. That was years ago while I was pregnant. I have had ALL of the Firm workouts at one time or another with the exception of a few recent ones. I even have a couple of their very rare members only ones. Tina - what was in the cole slaw? I usually love cole slaw and hadn't even thought about it being SBD friendly. Today's menu: B - quiche muffin with canadian bacon, onion, zucchini S - celery with peanut butter L - salad with steak and the extra onions & zucchini that wouldn't fit in my muffin cups S - tomato juice & string cheese D - extra lean burger (5%) with sauteed mushrooms & onions, asparagus and 1 small slice cake. Grrr. One of the girls at work brought a cake to celebrate her engagement. I declined when she first asked and then she did the pouty "guilt" thing "just a little tiny piece?" My plan was to ditch it at my desk but then she insisted that I stay on break with everyone and chat since I rarely do that. My french conversation skills need work and I usually avoid social conversation. I can handle work situations ok, but I get lost socially because too many people talk at once. Well, anyway, hard to ditch a piece of cake with everyone watching. Then I just felt stupid about it all day. Why do we do this to ourselves. I am such a perfectionist. If I get off program, then I just chuck the whole day and go WAY off into a binge. I was so tempted to do that tonight but I somehow managed to force myself to dismiss the half slice of cake and stay on program. I want to be someone who has a 10+ lb loss after the first 2 weeks but am not expecting it. Anyway, I plan to stay on PH1 for an additional 2 weeks after this week for a total of 3 1/2 weeks. I'm thinking of the first 1 1/2 weeks as dress rehearsal. Try the recipes. Who advised me on the chocolate??? Great advice. You said that if it caused cravings don't eat it. The little piece of SF Dark chocolate was nice and did not start any cravings, but the tiny piece of cake made me want to binge. I will have to just stay completely away from stuff like that for now. Unless it is for MY birthday, I will just have to politely decline. My super skinny French co workers will understand. Enough rambling. I have to improve my french social skills so I can make some friends. Thanks for not banning from the group already.

Nessie,
I have been drinking at least 2 liters of water a day, working out 4 - 5 times a week, getting 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep a night, and eating strictly OP. I have also been watching my fat, salt, and caffeine intakes. I have only eaten real foods, no LC cereal bars or shakes. In the past, hot dogs have always been a staple in my lunches because they are quick. I think I might have had one hot dog during the last two weeks. The very first time I did phase 1 in 2004, I had the same success and it was because I followed all the rules and didn't cut any corners. I have done even better this time. I eat bacon and eggs every morning, usual a no sugar added low-fat yogurt (4oz) for snack, salad with meat or leftovers from the night before for lunch, cashews as an afternoon snack, and then meat and veggies for dinner and a riccotta creme, sf jello, or sf popsicle as a snack. I also eat a spoonful of lower sugar PB as a snack at times. I am going to try to be careful as I go into to P2 and not add too much in right away because I really want to continue to be successful. |

You guys use a lot of abreviations. SB - South beach but some are too confusing!! I am so excited for the support already. It has made me stick to the plan, knowing that I am somewhat accountable. HOw do you set up the information about your weight and goals. I am a little computer savy but really do feel stupid for not being up with the terms here. Thanks ladies!! I have the book, but honestly haven't read it all LOL!!
I did mean I had the bruchetta on cucumber not bread - I just wasn't sure if tomatoes were allowed. So besides the 1 wrap I think I did good yesterday and I know I've done fine today. I am surprised at how easy this is!! I'll be back - time for dinner! |

Hi, Beachers!
Welcome and best wishes to the newbies!! Melrose, it seems we are in the same state! Good luck to all! Pir8 - Wish I had your sticktoitiveness!! I do well, but I have definately swerved off the path a time or two! (BUT, I always come back, at least!)Tammy, thanks for the b'day wishes. DH and I went out to dinner. Glad you are feeling better. German, hope you enjoyed your vacation. You were missed! Rachel, you are an inspiration! DD is adorable! I went to Catholic school until I finished high school. I LOVED wearing uniforms! No question about what to wear in the mornings! (Of course, in the olden days, when I was in school, everything had to be dry cleaned except the blouses!) ![]() Many of you have spoken about a delicious taco salad. Is it bought or home-made? Recipe? Thank you! Jan |

Rachel - Checked out the pic of your DD - she's so cute! Cute uniform - ours were plaid jumpers in grammar school - UGLY!
![]() Hi Jacqui - feel free to post as often as you like - the more the merrier! where are you from in Mass? I grew up in the Methuen area and I'm thinking if you're eating Josephs pitas you can't be too far off as they're local to Methuen. By the way what's the net carbs on those pitas? Are they whole wheat? We do get that brand up here in Maine so maybe I'll check them out. ![]() Cookie - good for you on getting right back on plan after the cake. I know it's hard to avoid those things at work. My work will use any excuse they can come up with to have a pigfest. I usually avoid it for as long as possible- the people here are such piggies that it isn't long before all the food is gone and it's no longer an issue. ![]() Pir8 - thanks for all the info on your eating. If things don't move below my all time low this week I think I'm really going to have to take a good look at my food logs and see where I can make some changes. I'm eating very well so far this week so hopefully things start moving along again. Danielle - you're doing so great! Good luck with teenagers - I don't envy you one bit. I raised 2 of them myself with very few issues and that was enough for me! ![]() melrose - go to http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ and clisc on the user control panel (on the top blue bar). From there choose "edit profile" on the left and just fill in the blanks. Go for it! jan - had taco salad tonight. Here's how I make it: Buy your favorite taco kit. I get one with both soft and hard shell tacos, sauce and seasoning mix. Brown 1 -1/2 - 2 lbs ground beef or turkey ( I make more than the pkg calls for because that's our favorite part). Add the seasoning and water as directed (I use just a little more water because I use more meat). Cook as directed. I chop up lettuce and tomatoes as you would for a salad. I put lettuce tomatoes and meat in a bowl, top with a little of the sauce, some mexican shredded cheese and a little bit of sour cream. DH and DS eat the mixture with the shells as usual. DD and I eat it without. I think you might find a recipe for low carb taco seasoning but it's only about 3 carbs per serving with 4-6 servings per packet. Enjoy! Watching the Red Sox vs Yankees game - Sox just tied it up with 2 outs in the 3rd WOOHOO!!! Can you tell I'm a BIG Red Sox fan? Going to have mhy SF Fudgesicle and watch the rest of the game. Have a great night everyone! Neesie |
