SOS - Am back and really need some support
Hi All,
I've been back and forth with all kinds of low carb/good carb diets, SBD among them and lost 30 pounds that way but haven't been back in a while. It's been a very stressful year and the last six months have especially been awful, full of stressful waiting and making a decision that will change my whole professional goals (not to mention require me to move AGAIN). Anyway, I have a history of diet/binging and the past weeks especially it has gotten completely out of control. I've gained at least 20 of the 30 pounds I lost and am feeling pretty helpless at the moment. I've decided to face the harsh reality that I am not eating healthy and that I need to lose weight again. I have since become a vegetarian and SBD is about one of the only good carb plans that keeps me focused and is veggie-friendly. So I'm starting with phase 1 tomorrow (the vegetarian way). I'm really focusing on eating lots of veggies, beans, and good fats, eating whole foods, eating six mini meals a day rather thant big meals and snacks, taking pride and enjoyment in the preparation of food (even if it's just hummus and veggies ) and staying clean of junk food. I have about a month until my parents come to help me move and I'd like to lose as much weight as possible (though I'm not giving myself a number, as that would be counterproductive to me). I will weigh myself tomorrow but don't plan on weighing myself until before my family comes. I've found weighing myself every week is way too stressful. I'm just going by how I feel and how my clothes fit.I really really need some support, since I can't seem to go it alone. I remember how much these boards were so great for me when I was doing a more traditional low carb plan and I'm planning on posting on the daily thread every day with my menu to help me focus. At least one good thing is that I've been exercising quite a bit - about 45-60 minutes of good brisk walking a day. So I guess I haven't totally gone into a rut .Tam |

Hi, Tam! These boards are a great support to me, and I absolutely love the South Beach Diet. I just started Phase 2 and am going forward, slowly but surely. I am here to help (even though I'm fairly new) in any way I can.
I'd love to know more about your career change, if you're willing to share. I'm contemplating a career change of my own. Kudos for keeping up the good work exercising! Welcome! Rachel |

Welcome Tam! I've been doing this since January and have been very happy with the results without feeling deprived. I'll be on the daily check-in thread to help and support you. You might also want to join a challenge on the challenge board to help keep you accountable. I have one and we'd love to have you with us (see my sig below), but there are lots of others as well, so check them out. You can jump in now or start May 1.
Good luck and know you CAN do it!!!! Now I'm heading to the gym to work out and for my weekly weigh-in. Jillian

Thanks so much for the support (though of course I expected nothing less from LC Friends
). Sorry for the desperate tone in this post. I was really feeling down yesterday. Feeling wonderful today, though, right on track and much calmer. Weighed myself and I gained less than I thought I did (15 pounds - still a lot but at least not as much as I had first thought).Rachel: The career change has to do with switching majors for grad school. It's a long complicated story but the gist of it is that I did my master's in English, then this fall went into a program for a PhD in Creative Writing in the Midwest and discovered I was not happy, either with the place or the major. I definitely wanted to reapply and decided to apply not just to English but to related fields as well (Women's Studies and History). I ended up getting one offer, in the History department of my old university. So that's where I'm going and I'm very happy about it. Because I have no background in History at all, I could only get into the MA program, but I can move into the PhD from there. I'll post later on the daily thread. Tam |
