Starting on Phase II

Has anyone started out successfully on Phase II?

I've been doing atkins for years and decided to train for my first marathon. I increased the carbs but wanted a guideline to follow so I didn't increase them to much. I would still like to lose about 25lbs before August. (stats are not current).

I'm following the list from Phase I but have added 1 slice of sprouted bread (like Ezekial) and 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal (usually in a protein pancake from the BFL thread) and 1/2 cup of berries.

I sure miss my full fat Ranch dressing, but the payoff has been great so far. I'm not going to weigh myself for a while after re-introducing carbs. I am training/working out pretty heavy so hopefully it will all even out.

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

The purpose of phase 1 is to get rid of cravings and control appetite, so if you've already managed that, starting with phase 2 is fine. Just be sure you read your book, and you'll do fine. Personally, I went from dandr to sb with no issues, really. The only difficult part was convincing myself that is was ok to add a starch and fruit! I also am still having trouble remembering to cut my fats the way they should be. I use only olive oil, for the most part, though.

Good luck and welcome to the beach! Grab your sunblock and a towel and jump right in!

Oh, I also wanted to add: I, too, love full-fat ranch, so I still use it. But I do cut it with a little non-fat yogurt or sour cream. It's still tasty, but not quite as bad.

It is recommended that athletes start with phase 2, so with your training you'll be fine.

I still use full fat drsg. But not a lot. About a tablespoon on a huge salad, and mix it well. It is delic. Wishing you well.

Thanks everyone for your replies and your support. I'm really excited about doing South Beach! I bought Newmans' Ceasar lite dressing. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks again!

Have you tried this?

Since you like the full fat ranch dressing, here is a way to make it a little healthier. Instead of buying the kind in the bottle already, buy the kind in the packet (dry). Mix it with a quart container of non-fat or lowfat plain yogurt.

I can't tell the difference and I am guilt free.

Smartmuse.. thats a great idea. Thank you. I forgot all about those packets. wow.

My favorite dressing is Blue Cheese. LOL I havent had that in a while. HAha.

I did buy South Beach brand Ranch yesterday at walmart. I will see how that goes. Next time though I think I will try out your idea. Thanks again.
