Giving up on Atkins and moving to the Beach

Hi all. I've been having an impossible time trying to restart Atkins and LC and can't take it anymore. I need and want to lose more weight but the limitations on Atkins are not for me. I read South Beach about 2 years ago but moved and gave away most of my books, that one included. So I'm thinking of starting using the guidelines posted here until the book arrives. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

John.

Tip: Do it by the book, as written.

I've read quite a few of your other posts and I can see that you are an intelligent, thoughtful person. No doubt, you can see the "sense" behind the SB way of life. Think of this as a way of life, not a "diet" and it will be easier. There is enough variety to keep you from feeling "deprived" ( I hate that term, but that's another thread ) and it is a plan that you can live with for the rest of your life. The stickies at the top of the page will get you started and check your library for the cookbooks. Great recipes.

Hi John and welcome. I am a new convert too. Initially the thrill of losing so much weight so fast on Atkins had me sold. But I just could not stick to it. I'd restart over and over but was not happy or satisfied at all so it wouldn't last for long. Can't believe how much better I feel already on SB and I'm still in Phase 1!! The choices are so much better to live with.

I was able to get a good start by researching online until I got the book. Best of luck and I do believe you will find this a much healthier and more realistic way of eating.

John!

Good to see you here...I also tried Atkins, wouldn't fly for the long haul...did not feel good and needed more of a balanced plan. SB is awesome! I have lost 50lbs so far! Just do it by the book, you will get results!PS... how is your new job going??

Thanks for the encouragement! Still don't have the book but maybe today. Looking forward to getting started.

Lysa - the new job is great. Thanks so much for asking.

I guess I'll be joining you. My Gastroenterologist says I need to start eating lower fat and lower carb. He also said I needed to include more fruits and vegetables (need the fiber) so I guess South Beach is close to what he is talking about. He also wants me to stay completely away from anything fried. I'm real anxious to read all the good information posted here. Right now I don't have a lot of time to do that (supposed to be working) but could someone tell me how long the first Phase should last? Thanks.

Ann

Ann, I can't tell you how many Drs. in this area are putting their patients on South Beach, for a myriad of problems. It's a good way to eat. Hope you do well.

Thank God for this thread!

I have been reading through SB a bit tonight wondering why I did not return to the beach when I decided to finally take control of my life and eating. I came on lcf with NO plan in mind. I started reading in Atkins and so many people seemed to have lost so much on Atkins. I had the book and went crazy buying cookbooks and other things. I do this a lot.
I have been ill, but I also have failed miserably for 2 LONG weeks trying to do Atkins. For my health, I need to do this---but I need to succeed.
I also need variety, which I am not finding on Atkins. I have been told that if I am not finding variety, that is my fault because there is a lot of variety.
Now, I have to find a way to return the Atkins stuff and buy the South Beach book. Is there a book beyond the the cookbook?
OK, don't think I am just jumping into yet something else. I have felt even when I made the choice of Atkins that SB is where I needed to be going.
I know I sound like a crazy woman.
I don't know why I don't stick with what I know has worked!!

Anyhow....now I will be looking for a SB partner.

Lord bless all of you Have a great week.
