Hitting the low appetite phase

A coworker did South Beach last summer and I remember when she was doing it she mentioned it was hard to eat as much as she was supposed to. In the last day or two my appetite has been very small. I have followed Phase 1 very carefully for about a week and a half and the closest I have come to cheating is today.

I ate 3 times and not a whole lot at any time. Drank plenty of water and some green tea. But the 3 small meals were all I could handle. On one hand I feel blessed that the endless cravings and days of cramming myself full of junk have ended. On the other I know the weight loss can slow if not enough food is eaten.

I haven't felt like this since I was a kid with a helping of peas I refused to eat sitting in front of me!!

GiGi, I don't know how much you weigh, but I can tell you that it is VERY important to get in enough protein, so you don't lose muscle. There are ways to calculate your need. There are days when I'm just not that hungry, so I have a whey protein drink. Also, be sure not to let yourself get hungry, which can lead to bad choices. Sometimes I'm not hungry, then it hits. Something small, like a string cheese or a bit of nuts can keep your metabolism up, without leaving you stuffed. How's your weight loss so far? Just keep plugging, I'm sure you're doing fine.

This is what I love about the diet! I feel like I am no longer controlled by food and my body telling me that I need to eat. Now I find that if I go too long without eating, my body tells me in a different way that I am hungry. It is hard to describe, but it isn't so much of a stomach growling shakiness anymore. I don't feel the urge to snack as much throughout the day as suggested in the book either. I find that if I have a hearty breakfast with eggs in it, I am good to go until mid afternoon before I feel the urge to eat again.
