Salad Dressing

whoa...this board is awesome!! im new to SB... i have been on Atkins for awhile and it's great but I'm concerned about all the fat... I read the book and I see this looks like a "lean" atkins kinda thing... which brings me to my original question:

Ranch Dressing

Can I eat this on SB? I know there is a lot of fat in it, but the book just said low sugar, and I actually make my own from scratch. I could lighten it up (buttermilk is in it though and that's already low fat, and of course I could use lite mayo) but was wondering if anyone happened to know!! I have looked and looked.

Thank you so much!!

Hi,
Welcome to SB.
I too did Atkins in the early years & again in 2004.
The thing about fats, SB & DR.OZ (Oprah) is to use GOOD fats. That is, EVOO, canola, some peanut and most nut fats, in moderation.
If you make your own ranch dressing, use reduced fat mayo, buttermilk etc. like you said.
Check the recipe file here. There are several good legal ranch recipes.
Good luck!

I am not following SB but I have found a way to cut counts of salad dressing in half. I use Atkins Blue Cheese recipe in the DANDR book but I use lower fat mayo. Then I add a whole bottle of Waldon Farms Blue Cheese (o calories, 0 fats and 0 carbs) to Atkin's batch and mix it all up. Cannot tell the difference at all.

I use ranch, but also make mine form scratch. I use the lt mayo, and lt sour cream and LF buttermilk, my own spices and I only use a small amt. (measure it out) when I eat it.

The main thing I look for is for a ranch not to be too high in calories or fat percentage and to have 3 g. of sugar or lower.
