What a gorgeous photo! Is that a shot of NY? I believe I see the famous Chrysler building in the background! What a glorious photo!

Happy New year to all!

Today my breakfast is cinnamon coffee made with splenda, cinnamon and evaporated fat free mik, plus eggs scrambled with onion, low fat cheese and turkey bacon on the side. A good breakfast like that always gets me off to a good start. Leave out the toast, and it's perfect phase 1!

Happy South Beach New Year everyone!

Happy New Year!
Love the site...spending too much time on the internet!
Lazy day today, though I found a pork tenderloin rub on Foodnetwork.com that I'm going to try for today's dinner (with sauerkraut)...German heritage and tradition. Yum!

Hello everyone! It's going to be a quiet day for us - just the family and the football games. We're spreading out a "buffet" and will probably munch all day. It's mostly legal foods, with a few treats - mozzarella bites, and two kinds of cookies. Other than that, we've got cheeses and a big veggie tray.

Tomorrow is our official start!

Congrats on losing 5lbs! That is the best part of phase 1. The weight comes off pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing my results too. Last time I did phase one, I lost 11lbs in 2 wks. Great job!

Just checking in for the day! This is day 1 of Phase 1 for me. Here's where I'm at so far:

B-2 turkey bacon, 2 eggs scrambled with onion, zucchini, mushrooms, a pinch of shredded cheese, and coffee with cream.
snack-string cheese
L-green salad with onion, cucumber, feta cheese, a few peanuts, 1 T sunflower seeds, 2 slices of smoked chicken deli meat, 2 T Balsamic Vinegar dressing.
Snack-celery with 1 T natural peanut butter
D- will be grilled chicken breast, steamed cauliflower and broccoli, keep-a-week coleslaw

evening snack- probably mocha ricotta or some low-fat cottage cheese

water- I've got 4 glasses down and moving on to #5.

Happy New Year!

Melissa

Hi all. Happy New Year. I am back again, though there are so many new people, there probably isn't anyone who remembers me. Things got way out of control as far as my weight in 2006. In 2004, I did great. I got down to 182, which was the smallest I have been in my adult life. I am about 5' 6" and even though I still needed to lose some more, at 182 I was a size 12-14 and was pretty happy with how I looked and felt. By the fall of 2005, I was up to around 220+, but by Christmas 2005 I was down to 198 or so. I did pretty well over the holidays last year but never got back on track and stayed there. I would do well for a few weeks and then blow it, or I would do great with eating and not working out, or the other way around and just didn't see much progress. Today, I weighed in at 240 which is my highest weight in over three years (however, I am in smaller clothes than when I weighed this before). I didn't weigh myself at a good time today, plus after last nights festivities, I am sure my weight is inflated. However, it was a wake up call. I am going skiing in three weeks and my ski pants don't fit. I don't think it is possible for me to lose enough to get in them in three weeks. I am going on a cruise in just over a month and I would like to be feeling better about myself by then (and then not completely blow it on the cruise).

I am gungho about getting back in the gym. Working out is not my favorite thing but I always feel better when I do it. I work at a university and am a member of the gym there. It seemed that last year because of my schedule it was so hard to get there and put in the needed time, plus I always had to wait on machines. Before Christmas, my office moved just a few buildings from the gym and I have to walk by it to get to my car. So, that is a big incentive to go. Plus, with my office being so close, I can walk over in the morning and sign up for a machine for after work and not have to wait.

As far as food goes, I know how I am supposed to eat and drink. I just have to make myself do it. I still have Christmas cookies left that I will have to throw out.

I don't know how often I'll be able to check in because this will be a very busy time at work for me, but I will check in when I can.

Good luck to everyone! Have a great 2007!

I guess this is a great place to start with my NY's resolution. I'm a "Newbie" at this and want to lose 30#'s by April 1st.

I will walk/run 8 miles a week to start off, using my treadmill and hand weights for upper body firmness. I will try to get in 2 miles each work out with a hope of working out 5 days a week, but need to give myself some cushion if needed.

Water is never a problem for me, since it is my preferred drink of choice. I gave up coffee about 1 month ago and feel so much better, although I do have to resist the urge, especially when tired, like this morning!

My biggest problem is weight fluctuations. I like to weigh everyday, although it is discouraging. I tried once every other day or every two days and still fluctuated so much I couldn't see any progress. Once a week does me no good either. I just don't continually drop the pounds. Does anyone else out there fluctuate like 5 pounds day to day? I can even feel the difference in the fit of my clothes. I am unfortunately an apple shape, so even though it is easy to hide, I'm soooo uncomfortable with my bulging waist.

My all time high weight was 176. I've hovered around 150 for a while now and am sick of it. I never even weighed 100# before I graduated HS and was teased about being so skinny, so I'm ready for the change and to get in control of my weight for my health and well being. Hopefully by being serious and committed, I will see a gradual loss

Hi all
I'm so ready to get to my goal this year. I have 125 lbs to loss. I'm starting this year off at 244 which I've maintained for the last few months. It is now time to really get moving. One of my big goals is to try now things. For example bean cake. Before now I would have never tried it however i did. I couldn't believe how good it is and my kids like it (even my picky one). So good luck to all on your goals and Happy New Year.

I have been on Atkins since 10/21/06 and lost 22 lbs. but I have never been a "meat and salad" person and it's been a big challenge for me to stay on plan. I am switching over to Phase 2 of South Beach. I'm not very organized about it yet but at this point am adding 1 carb item per day for the next couple of weeks. If I can tolerate that and keep losing I will then add 2 carb items per day for a couple of weeks and see how that goes, then my personal limit of 3 carbs per day indefinitely (probably until goal). I am Type 2 diabetic so I want to keep blood sugars under control while attempting to add back in some fruit and bread. I have not been exercising at all until today so by also adding that in I hope to counter some of the additional carbs' effect on my blood sugar.

Today's food:

B/L-protein drink
S-2 SF hard candies at the movies
D-sliced turkey, corn & green beans at Boston Market <---today's carb was corn
S-celery w/ peanut butter

Thanks for the thread and Happy New Year to all!!

Hello everyone !

I've decided to give SB WOE a try. I had planned on starting 12/29 but didn't. I'm going to start tomorrow and would like to join your group for support. Is this ok?

A little about me:

My name is Meekness. I've been on Atkins since 2/2004 (215). My current weight is flucuating between 163-166. I would like to weigh 143 by my 32nd B-Day - which is on March 6th.

I don't know much about SB. I'm going to their website to read up on the diet and learn which foods are allowable during each phase. If there is anything you guys think I should know right off that bat - please inform me.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Meekness

I would HIGHLY suggest getting the book, it will help you so much, especially all the menus and planned eating...really helps to get success out of the plan! The book will help you answer alot of your ??? especially after being on Atkins!

I purchased my hard cover South Beach book thru Overstock.com for about $10 off Walmarts price. I got a friend interested too and we split the $2 shipping. I got it about a year ago and never finished reading it and didn't use it, but am GOING to do it this time!!

This is what I had today. B - 2 hard boiled eggs and a hand full of pecans
L - Leafy green salad with turkey breast, pepper jack cheese, celery, carrots, broccoli, & ceasar dressing.
D - 2 cups of stir fried veggies with beef

I am short on my H2O so far and have only had about 36 oz. I haven't had any snacks and don't feel like I need them, although I'm not sure everything above is allowed on phase 1, since I haven't gotten thru the book yet.

Skipped my exercise since a friend of mine talked me into meeting her to go for a walk and our plans fell thru. I'm packing my DH his lunch and also want him to lose 30 pounds with me. Exercise is going to be hard for him since he works 12 hour shifts, but hopefully we can lose together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND NEW TRIM BODIES TO ALL!

Hi, Meekness. The stickies at the top of the page will give you the food lists and menu plans to get you started. It would be really great if you can get a copy of the book. If you follow the plan, as written, you should be able to reach your birthday goal. Good luck.

Buy the book that says The South Beach Diet, big white print on front, green color. That is the original plan, unless there is an updated version, that's the book to get! I know Dr. A. made some little books after that, pocket size, to accompany the big book, but the original South Beach Diet is what you will need. Great recipes!

Hi all,

I got off to a good start yesterday. I started more on Phase 1.5, lol. I didn't have a problem throwing out the rest of the Christmas cookies, but I couldn't throw out perfectly good fruit. So, I will eat a small piece of fruit each day until it is gone, which will just be a few days. I drank my water, ate well, wasn't tempted by bad foods, and worked out yesterday. I am down 1.5 pounds. Woo hoo.

Yesterday's menu:

B: 2 eggs scrambled with cheddar, 2 pieces of bacon, 10 oz 1% milk
S: 1 small banana
L: Small salad, piece of baked ham, sf jello w/cool whip
S: handful of cashews
D: Steak, salad, and steamed broccoli w/cheddar
S: SF creamsicle and spoonful of lc peanut butter

Today's menu

B: 2 scrambled eggs w/cheddar, 2 pieces of bacon, 10 oz 1% milk
S: 1/2 apple w/peanut butter
L: small salad, slice of baked ham, sf yogurt
S: cashews
D: still deciding...but either hamburger patty and green beans or spaghetti meat sauce over steamed broccoli

Have a great day!
