Grocery List/Brands

Hi. I think I am going to start doing SB. It seems like the best thing for me now, as I was just ordered to lower my sodium, animal fat, and starch. I have done other low carb plans but since I just got diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and raised lipids, I've been beating my head in trying to figure out what to do and it seems as though this is the plan for me. I have the small book and basically know what to do. But I wanted to see what people buy, tried and true, at the grocery store.

I went on a "field trip" yesterday to just read labels. I actually found a Vermont Cheddar that Sargento makes that has the lowest sodium and it isn't even marked low sodium, and it doesn't have a bunch of stuff in it.

I also got two different butter replacements to try == one is Smart Balance and the other is Fleischman's made with olive oil.

So, anybody feeling like contributing? Please do! I've been wondering for days which thing to do to low carb and still keep my potassium good, my sodium down, and my animal fat to a minimum...

Sodium content is always the hardest thing for me to get around, but I don't have B/P problems or water retention so I don't stress about it too much. I do occasionally have the SBD lunch/dinners but they are so high in sodium. I use Kraft 2% shredded cheese (the Mexican blend) for whenever cheese is called for (mostly for breakfast). I use non fat Miracel Whip sparingly. I like the Blue Bunny 85 yogurt. (found at Wal-Mart). I do use real butter occasionally on veggies. I use the Land O Lakes green top tub. Soft spread (is mixed with canola oil). I use pam for cooking my egg. I eat Jello sugar free pudding (not on phase one). I make it with skim milk. I rely on it to get me passed my sugar cravings or the family is having ice cream. You may not be able to use some items if they cause you to crave more. It's important not to add too many things at one time until you see how it will affect you.
I hope this helps.

Just FYI, I notice if you are watching the salt...I do too, I look at the organic things, canned, cheese ,etc. It always is lower in sodium than even the lower sodium stuff! SBD is a great, balanced plan, I "tweek" it a bit to suit my body, ie: I try not to use artificial sweetners, eat pork, but that's just me. I encourage you! Eat ALOT of veggies, LOTS of water, the blood pressure, etc. goes way down. 2 yrs ago, my chol. was 256, I went on the SBD FAITHFULLY for 6 months, when I went back to doc, my chol. was 150!! Unbelievable!!

Thank you. I'm glad to have some responses to my post. I'm really interested in lowering my blood pressure and my cholesterol, and I don't want to be obsessing over food all the time. It's just that right now, there are changes I need to make from the other low carb way I was eating to what I need to try and do now. I reached the point where I don't know what to believe but I gotta start somewhere and I gotta use my doc's instructions, too.

Good luck goodcelt!! I like SB because you can use all the LF items. I haven't been on it long enough to say much except after you are on phase 1 for a few days there is no cravings....NO obsessing over food.

Thank you, Nana Susie. So far, so good. I made a soup tonight with my Costco rotisserie chicken carcass, celery, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and barley. I skimmed the fat off of the top, too. I had a salad w/mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes with evoo and vinegar before I had the soup.
