Health benefits of SBD??
Hi all, I am new here, I am on phase I of SB. Was on the plan about 1 1/2 yrs ago and lost 35 lbs. now I am back to get the last 35 off!
I am wondering for those of you who have been on the plan for a while, what health benefits you have seen?? ie: blood pressure, diabetes, blood work, etc? I am a natural health kinda person and prefer to use other means than meds to heal something if possible. Is there reason to worry about all the protein, I hear pros and cons about that? So was wondering for those of you that have lost alot and been on a while, what you think? Thanks so much, I hope to gain encouragement here...I really struggle with the "sweets" Thanks and blessings... Lysa |

Lysa...I am not one who has been on plan long either. Some one PLEASE answer. There has to be some good reports!
Up until this past May I had been doing LF with no sugar for almost a year. I had lost well doing it and my blood pressure went from 130/80 to around 117/73...sometimes even lower. I had a ton of energy and my blood oxygen tested out good. I think with the protein on SB it is the lean lower low cuts. When I was doing Atkins I know I ate really high fat meats and all the heavy cream and butter sure ran my cholesterol way up. That is just how it effected me.....for other I hear it didn't do that. Maybe someone will answer.....I just couldn't stand not seeing a answer to your question![]()

well I don't measure those kind of things but I'd image SBD is great for lowering blood pressure, diabetes, etc. It encourages good veggies filled w/ good nutrients. Plus it just makes you feel better, more energized. It is very good for the heart, considering Dr. Agaston is a cardiologist.

to be honest, the proteins on south beach diet are not bad for you at all, its NOT a high protein diet, its a moderate carb diet, cutting out the crap basically.
which is definetly not bad for you. |

well...
Well thanks guys on your thoughts. I always felt like SBD was a great choice WOE...I was just hoping to meet someone long term on the plan that has seen good health changes. I appreciate the thought on protein, I have had a kidney stone in the past and was "told" not to eat too much protein
Whatever...I am real careful what most dr's tell me, as they seem to either want to drug you, or cut something out That's a whole other topic!! So I just try to use my good ol' common sense. I think getting refined flours/sugars/junk out is HUGE for us/health I eat everything I can organic and do lot's of reading and studying on health, it facinates me. Everyone seems to say their way is "best", no carbs, LF, FF, hig carb, etc SBD is a good balance I think. God made our bodies so awesome!! I know they respond well to good nutrition and a positive mind! Well, thanks again.Lysa ![]() |

My labs were fine back in 2003 when I lost a bunch of weight on Atkins. I haven't had labs since than I think, I'm going to have them done next month after 9 months on SBD. I have noticed that blood pressure has come down to 100/70. When it was checked at the doctors office last it was 130/80, but I was in pain too. I'm really wanting to see what the labs will say this year.

I am trying to keep/get mine down as well, I have been working on overcoming anxiety, for about 2 years without the meds, so eating well/supplements/exercise and all is sooo much better I think than drugs if you can do it!Good luck! Lysa ![]() |

I'd like to live my life drug free, but as I suffer/have bipolar disorder I do take a few (3) medications to keep my life in balance. I've tried without a couple of times in the past 13 years but tanked each time. I don't feel the meds have hindered my weight loss though and thats good. I do feel extra energized when being consistant in my exercise. And there have been times that I strayed on my eating but stayed consistant with the exercise which saved me.
