Converting and scared

Well after 4 years of doing Atkins on and off, I am heading to the beach!! I have lost and maintained a 50 pound loss on Atkins. My problem is that Atkins has not been a plan I can stick to for any lenght of time. I am now 32 years old with High cholesterol. I think it is partly genetic and partly due to going on and off a HIGH FAT diet for 4 years. I started WW for a few months but I just seem to go hog wild and the carb monster gets the best of me. After really reading your boards SB seems like a very healthy plan. I like the fact it is lower in fat and you get to have the extras like yogurt and nuts. I love fruit and look forward to adding it down the road.

do you all recommend buying the book or is the information on this site the "plan in a nutshell"? thank you for listening and I look foward to the support on this site.

By all means, buy the book. You'll refer to it often. We got ours at Walmart in paperback. Very inexpensive! and post often. There's strength in numbers!

I had no sucess on Atkins, but I'm very happy with how I'm losing on South Beach. One of the great things about the Beach is that if you do go a little off the path, you don't have to start over to put yourself back into ketosis. For me this has been a very livable plan, which also includes that I'm not making seperate meals for DH and I.

The book gets a lot of use. Matter of fact, it's out on the coffee table now.

Welcome to the Beach Steff. I recommend getting the book. I also suggest getting The South Beach Diet Good Fats Good Carbs Guide. It's a small addition that I find really helpful as well.

Thank you so much! I will run out and see if I can find it in Paperback today!!!! Bobbi - That is exactly what I am looking forward to, being able to have 1 meal for the whole family that is healthy for EVERYONE. And on Atkins, I would have one cheat and feel like a complete failure!! It was all or nothing. I am thrilled to see you all are having so much success!

I agree....its so hard to consistently eat something different than what your DH and kids are eating at the same table... good luck and success to ya!!!

another thing about the book is it explains exactly what the idea is behind it all health-wise. It really helps to understand the logic of the diet instead of just knowing what you can and can't eat, you can know why.
