Hi Guys:

This is from the South Beach page I get daily:

Magnesium's Role in Your Diet

You've probably heard a lot about calcium, sodium, and potassium — but what, if anything, do you know about magnesium and its part in a balanced diet? Magnesium is a mineral necessary for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It is used by every cell and is important for maintaining heart rhythm, nerve function, metabolism, and bone strength.

According to the National Institutes of Health, surveys indicate that many Americans don't consume enough magnesium — despite the fact that this important mineral is plentiful in many whole foods (like milk, nuts, fish, and whole-grain breads). Insufficient magnesium intake is linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great night/day.

I see there isnt anyone up and running yet! I will post my menu later this evening. I like to do that so I dont put something down that I dont do. LOL.

Its a hot one here today. Going to go and get my haircut later. Sorta nervous. Its past my shoulders now. Want a short do. It is too hot here for long hair in the summer.

Everyone post and if you all have any hints about warding off hunger pangs, put it down. OR anyone have any tips of any kind. Or any interesting thing that you have read on a health issue. All is appreciated. See yas all later. Be back later later, going to visit my mom after hair appt.

SF ice pops are a must !!

Hi Gang

Hi Reg. SF pops look good to me! Oh, btw, you werent here when I started taking over the thread daily. I kept coming in here and sometimes there would be a thread up, but most of the time no thread for a few days. But, if you want to take it over it is ok by me. I will be a participant. I just did it because there wasnt one.

Lynn congrats on the book report!! Menu looked great too.

Amy, we do not have a boston market here either. But I did see an advertisment for it. Chicken and string beans are ok. I know you would not eat the skin or anything like that. LOL on the frapacinno. I love the stuff so I know how you feel.

Later gang!!

Morning Beach-ees!

Friday on a holiday weekend. Work will be dead, so I'll be drinking lots of water to ward of the boredom eating.

Only a pound so far this week, however the fat from my bra area is almost gone.

Yesterday's menu:

Coffee, 2oz skim milk, equal

B- Dannon Carb & Sugar Control Blueberry yogurt. (3g carb, 50 cals)
L- 1 large egg, 1oz 2% milk, 1 slice reduced fat cheese, 1 slice Canadian bacon, 1 cup broccoli, 1/3 cup baked beans

D- 4oz boneless, skinless chicken breast with tequila lime seasoning, 1 cup broccoli, 1/4c Low fat Ricotta with almond, vanilla, cocoa, and equal.

Be safe everyone!

Morning! It's gonna be cooler today. That always makes it harder for me to drink my water, not as "thirsty" ya know?

I'm eating my oatmeal and drinking my juice. This is the day at work we call "Fat Friday" and folks sign up to bring treats. There is usually something legal, but most often there are lots and lots of refined carbs. The oatmeal fills me up and keeps me honest. I've made it through 2 FF's and the breakfast yesterday. I think I've got it.

Will check in later. Have a great day everyone!

Talk about a whoosh. Yay. I hope I can do this again today. We shall see. Off to get my hair cut. bbl.

Lynn, I understand not wanting water when its cool It is near 90 here. WTG on avoiding snacks at work.

Good morning all. Expecting company today, not sure what the day will bring eating wise. I'm having a SBD bar right now. Cinnamon raisin. It is very good. Very small, but very good.
Only lost a pound this week. I'm probably not eating enough, or eating too many nuts, but that is usually where I get fat from.
I've walked over 20 miles this week. I didn't reset my pedometer each day, I wanted to see what it would be. I'll walk 4 more tomorrow as well. Not too bad I think.
We have a picnic tomorrow. I'm making my famous sheet cake. I hope there is plenty to eat that is legal.
On the advice of my shrink, I've been taking chromium for carb cravings. I've never taken it before. It really seems to help me most of the time.
What kind of oat meal do ya'll use? Is it like Quaker oats, or a special type, I see you mention "steel cut". Where do you get that?
I was looking back at the menu's posted. It doesn't seem like much food. Are we eating enough? I know we don't really count calories... anyone care to comment.
I'll be back later, got to clean up for the company...

Sheila,

The Tequila Lime seasoning is from www.grizzlyjoes.com. All their stuff is carb free, sugar fee and no MSG.

JoLi, I use McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal. It comes in a gray, old fashioned tin. I got mine at Trader Joe's, if you have one near you. I've also heard that Whole Foods carries it, but I can't tell you for sure.

Most oatmeal is the grain rolled flat. Steel cut is the oat sliced into chunks. It never achieves perfect creaminess like rolled oats, but I actually like the texture. It's kind of like eating hot Grapenut Cereal. I've been doing mine with a touch of sugar fee Maple Syrup, or with a touch of almond and vanilla extract.

my oatmeal is quaker... cant afford the ones online.. Thanks for the link. I need to save it. Too much food, or not enough food. I am not sure if we are getting enough.

We are suppose to have brks, lunch dinner and two snacks and a dessert. We are allowed what, 4 oz of meat, and veggies, 2 c per meal? Thats pretty good. Any other comments out there?

I've just been going where ever my hunger takes me. I never do two snacks though. I wasn't big eater before starting this diet, so to me it's just too much food. I just chose the wrong foods.

The past two mornings I haven't eaten breakfast, I ate my snack instead simply because I wasn't hungry. This morning I ate my snack and decided I was still hungry, so had breakfast. Some days I'm hungrier than others and I'm just following the cue.

I'm loving that Sugar and Carb Control Yogurt!

Good evening Beachers.

Today was great! I made the best broccoli, onion and Swiss cheese quiche today. That will last me several days. Then for dinner we had a crustless pizza with a garden salad. I love eating so healthy!!

This weekend we plan to go out to eat, but I already know I will get a small steak and some veggies. No chocolate!!!

Have a super weekend everyone.

It is great to see that everyone is doing wonderful ! I have been off for a few days. Working hard and too tired to get on once I am home. I have been doing well and sticking to plan Finally, people are really starting to notice that the weight is coming off. It's always nice to have that little extra encouragement

Tom visted a week and a half earlier than usual I was wondering why I felt so crabby!! Good news though, didn't gain any weight and usually I gain between 3-4 pounds. I hope it is a good sign for that scale to drop once he has gone away..

I love the steel cut oatmeal and have found it a lot less expensive at Food for Less (owned by Ralph's) if you have the store in your area. I cook mine on the stove and cut small pieces of apple into the water before adding the oats. The apples get a little tender and it adds really great flavor! I sprinkle a little cinammon on top too!

Does anyone cook with tofu? I don't really like red meat and I think that if I eat another piece of chicken, I am going to sprout feathers and start clucking! I love fish but can't eat it everyday. I was hoping someone out there may have a couple good recipes for me to try.

I'll check in later. Everyone happy beaching!!

Hi,
I have been making a tofu ratatouille for a while.. even before going on SB. My husband loves it and so do I.

Recipe.. I am averaging here.. and you have to average your own seasoning.

1 larged onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
6 cloves garlic chopped

Sautee onion, bell pepper for 3 minutes in olive oil
add garlic
Sautee for 2 more minutes
Add one tablespoon tomato paste.. let it cook under low heat with the garlic, onion and bell pepper for at least 3 minutes
Add 2 chopped tomatoes.. let that cook in under medium heat for at least 3 minutes
A one packet firm tofu cut in cubes mix it all up
Add one can plum tomatoes chopped let mix it up
simmer ten minutes
add two zuccinnis chopped.. in big chunks.. stir, add a handful of basil leaves
season to taste
I use salt, pepper, a little italian seasoning
cover
let simmer 35 minutes
serve with a little brown rice if you are past Phase I.
I eat the leftovers for breakfast, lunch etc.

Enjoy and sorry for the sloppy instructions..Ask if you don't understand

FF

Well here it is Friday evening and another successful day on the Beach. I’m very, very pleased with this way of eating, way of life. I haven’t found it difficult, restricting or tedious. The few bumps I’ve had are strictly emotional/comfort eating related and were easy to overcome. I shoulda done this years ago!

Food for Friday:

B – Oatmeal and juice
L – Romaine lettuce salad w/ turkey, tomato, cheese and honey Dijon dressing
S – A handful of almonds
D – Turkey meatloaf and zucchini, mushrooms and onions

I do plan to eat some strawberries later. Yum. I loves me some strawberries.

We are going camping tomorrow and won’t be back until Monday. This will be a test of my willpower. I bought all the camping food. I bought all the healthy stuff and I bought camp/road food. The biggest hazard I see is the Jiffy Pop I bought. I love popcorn. We’ll see how I feel and if I decided to indulge in a handful.

I hope everyone here has a safe, happy 3 day weekend. I’ll check back in on Monday!

If you freeze tofu, the texture changes. You can crumble it and use it like ground beef. It is great added to spaghetti sauce or chili. Also, use in stir fries instead of chicken.

Hi Rose,
WOW.
That is an AWESOME tip. So you freeze it and it doesn't get frozen just crumbly?
Or do you have to thaw it out afterwards?
