Check in for Monday, May 22nd, 2006
Hi Gang Another weekend in May gone. Do not know where all this time is going. I got this from the South Beach page that comes in my mail. I do not know if I agree with it... but I do use Smart balance spread, but I still love the taste of butter. It is natural if ya know what I mean. Best wishes to those weighing in in the morn. Hope the whoosh fairy visits !! |

Salsa on top. snack, yogurt one cup lunch very small piece of blasted chicken, small salad, cooked cabbage, and cooked collards snack none, went to church supper when I got back same as lunch snack ricotta I had about 5 pieces of sf gum throughout the day and it was a good day on the beach!!

Good morning to all. I've walked three point three miles already today, working on my second bottle of water.
I've got to drive my Mom to San Antonio today. Today is the first anniversary of my fathers passing. It is not going to be an easy day. We are going to meet up with my brother. Don't have a clue as to my menu for today. Had a shake as I am writing this. Reg welcome, I'm an SBD convert. I've always done Atkins. I've been doing SBD for about a month now. I enjoy it more than Atkins. Come and see us as much as you can we will help you along. Shelia, I'm with you, I much prefer butter to any other product out there. I really don't use it enough to worry about it in my opinion. The cardiac reahab people recommended Smart Balance to my Mom after her heart attack. If you compare differences there isn't all that much except in the saturated fats... but like I said, I don't eat that much of it and I count it in.... Gotta run. Have a good day all, I'll be back later...

I use Brummel & Brown, but I actually use very little. DH has a history of heart attacks in his family and I don't want to be feeding him real butter.

Good Morning Everyone!
Reg! Hope we can support you here while your on the Beach. SB is the first real "diet" I've given half an attempt at since before I got married (13 years ago). I can't really compare it to Atkins, but have been losing weight and am pretty happy with my results. I think I get greedy and want to lose it all NOW. I think I've been averaging about 2 pounds a week. Some weeks I'll lose nothing and then lose 3-4 pounds in as many days. I try not to ask questions and just go with it! I am not, not ever, never, not in a million years going to give up butter! Since I've cut out bread and potatoes there are few things to put it on really. I have had it on baked sweet potatoes, flaxseed "muffins" and the occasional steamed broccoli or cauliflower. I think I've bought three packages of butter since we started SB in February. A huge change from always having one in the fridge and one in the freezer. RR- I really do appreciate that you have "taken charge" of this forum. We seem to have a pretty active group here again. Maybe you could take a break and do your daily check in and the rest of us can step up and do more with personal responses. I'll try to do my part. DH and I are going to move back to phase 1 for a couple of days. He's got a trip to Canada this week so it may be tough for him. We both agreed that last week wasn't stellar. As far as my "problem" I'm feeling a little bit better but not 100%. Still weigh 170 this morning. I'm hoping that watching my food choices, getting all my water every day and exercising will move the scale and... O.K. anyhow I've got running around to do today. Maybe I'll even ride the lawn tractor around in circles (I love mowing the grass, the noise blocks out everything else and no one bothers me!). Yes the sun is finally shining in NE Ohio! Have a great day!

Morning everyone and Howdy Do to those I've just met! It's a fly-by posting, I'm running late this fine, rainy Monday morning.
Starting Phase 2 today and may I just say that oatmeal tastes wonderful? I caved and jumped on the scale as I wanted to see just exactly how much I lost on Phase 1 - 10.2 pounds less of me!!!! Now I have to re-set my brain to 2 lbs a week, 2 lbs a week. I can do this. And you all are such a help. Keeping honest for yesterday's food intake (Sunday): B - 2 eggs over easy, 2 slices canadian bacon, black coffee L - celery sticks stuffed with salmon cream cheese S - 30 pistachio nuts D - Grilled chicken breast and veggie casserole (from the recipe thread) Dessert - Almond/Cherry ricotta creme I'll check in later. Have a great day everyone!!

Kirsten, have you tried Senna Tea? It's easy to drink and works well, without some of the <cough> issues.
Brummel and Brown is a yogurt/cream blend, and it behaves like butter. Actually melts. I'll tell ya, adjusting down to 2lbs per week is hard on the brain. I'm impatient, dammit. Yesterday was: coffee, 2 oz skim milk, equal 1/2 cup steel cut oats with almond extract and vanilla extract Chicken Tostada (didn't eat the refried beans or the shell). I did however eat the sour cream, no guacamole. Diet coke.1 large sausage, 1.5 large eggs, 1 oz skim milk, 1 slice reduced fat cheese, 1/3 cup baked beans 1 cup decaf, 2 oz skim milk, equal 48 ounces water |

another question:
I read somewhere you should stay under 40 carbs in phase 1, is that correct? Cuz yogurt has carbs. |

Melissa
I have the book, and it says we do not count carbs. I eat yogurt once a day for my snack for my counting of dairy. Sometime I have it twice a day. Hope this helps. |

OH YUM! I missed my yogurt on Atkins lol
yay! Ill use it as my snack ![]() South Beach is gonna be so good for me. I switched my family to whole wheat pastas and breads a long time ago and I pretty much hate sugar from being on atkins for so long. It always gives me headaches. so sick of being over weight. |

Melissa and Reg. I'm sure you will both do super. I'm a little dismayed today. I have been doing phase 1 for two weeks and for the most part been doing super with it. No bread, no fruit, lots of lean meat and veggies. I really thought I had done well this weekend, but when I got on the scales this morning at the workout room I was up 3lbs!! Now, I am trying to figure out why. I did take a big dose of metamucil yesterday and could be having a bulking problem. We have been eating ricotta, 1/2 cup with some nuts, in the evenings. It could be that my fat count is too high, even though my carbs are low. I DON'T KNOW!!!! I did my monthly measurements today and lost 2.75" on my body. That is 11 1/2" since I started. I guess that is good, but I so want it to be more. Tomorrow is my weekly weigh in that I record so are being said and I plan to work really hard on watching my calories and increasing my exercise. We have a vacation planned for July and I want to have a reason to buy some new clothes. ![]()

Pita, weight fluctuates. ( and always UP
) Even atmospheric pressure can make a difference. As long as you stay on plan, don't worry about it. |

It's almost my bedtime but I thought I'd get in one last post of the day.
I don’t know guys, I feel as though I’ve blown it completely. My rational brain says no, but…..gah. Phase 2 begins. Food for Monday: B – ˝ cup oatmeal cooked in 1 cup skim milk with sprinkle of Splenda brown sugar and cinnamon; 6 oz V8 Diet Berry Splash (less sodium, calories and carbs than reg. V8) S – mozz cheese stick L – salad of mixed greens, turkey, tomato, ff cheese shreds and ff honey mustard dressing S – a slice of the veggie casserole from last night D – beef stirfry (sugar snap peas, mushrooms onions and carrots) S – strawberries w/ff cool whip I did get all my water in, so that’s a good thing. I know it doesn’t look like much, but it just feels like I really went wide off the mark. Input anyone? Shelia - the salmon cream cheese is just the Philly brand you buy at the store with the added salmon - I'm sure it's not enitrely "legal" but I love lox and cream cheese on bagels. This is a cheap, easy substitute. I only plan on eating it once in a while. It's not low fat! Pita - I know just how you feel from previous trys at losing. If that darn scale didn't move down I was just frustrated and miserable. That is why I am also measuring myself. If those numbers go down and the scale doesn't :shrugs: I don't really care. Also, when you start adding muscle mass you may experience a slight gain even as your measurements keep going down. This is why I'm trying really hard not to be a slave to the scale this time. Now if both numbers don't go down.... ![]() |
